Welcome to the forums, we have some things in common, I'm in to VNs and study Japanese also. It's a good combination. Enough of me, what VN do you consider the best you have read up to this date?

In Japan they have considered immigration for solving the "shrinking workforce problem", but reached the conclusion that it would be cheaper to develop robots replacing humans in some workplaces. I don't know how they reached that conclusion, but I know Japan isn't the most liberal nation when it comes to work-immigration.

I'd say Ever17 took me with a storm, I'm really happy I actually picked it up. I now consider it as one of the best VNs. I swallowed it in three-four days, don't think I need to say I pretty much didn't do anything else. The biggest disappointment for me must have been Qualiaffordance, I really had my hopes high, it had animated scenes, promos showing yandere scenes, Aoba Ringo voiced imouto, everything it seemed. Unfortunately it was rushed, predictable and without originality.

They really used how the the human ear's sense of sound localization works. If the delay between right and left ear is about what it takes for sound to travel that way we percept the sound to come from left. Welcome! You seem to have good taste in VNs to have read those four when you just have read eleven VNs in total.

Never thought my introduction thread would get a revival. So I'll blows away the dust and try to reply. No I haven't simply because I'm not confident in my English skills and have to use a dictionary for quite a few kanji. Well, you learn through reading VNs untranslated, start out with any of the text capturing tools and connect it to a computer dictionary. If you know the grammar and every-day Japanese syncopes, there's no problem with some efforts and a reduced reading pace. I started out that way, in the beginning with agth + translator aggregator + atlas, then I went to ITH and lastly VisualNovelReader by Aaeru.

Of course, that's part of a subculture (maybe not best word), but we have these also, and they aren't regarded as "normal" here either. But we think the ones the Japanese have are weirder than here, probably because the mainstream culture deviates from the western self-proclaimed norm more than that of other countries. Because sub culture is often a reaction against the mainstream one, and they are different.

I think the discussion about the demographic issue of Japan is interesting, and surely the aren't any simple answers to find. However the thing I picked up from the documentary is maybe not directly related but here it goes. Why does westerners expect that every society/culture works in the same way, do we have a right to monopolise what is considered "normal" when it comes to relationships and what to do with out lives?

Well I guess the really fast typers in Japanese have that たていすかん input method. One key = one hiragana. And one thing that surprised me, I spelled one or two kanji with a synonym, that means I understood the meaning. A pro tip enter TU for つ.

Welcome! I think Flyable Heart really needs a full translation, because it's so good (have read it in Japanese and consider it among the best ones). I'm really happy you're translating it and wholeheartedly wish you good luck on it.

Starts reminiscing the dialogues in Rin route in Katawa Shoujo, when a definition or a possible boundary art was discussed. "In short, art defines itself. It simply cannot be contained to a definition from the outside, since the boundaries of art expand and contract from forces within." – Nomiya the art teacher. So I guess you cannot say what's art and what isn't because no established standard definition exists, or at least a strict concrete one I know of. For some including me anime may be considered art. And then onto the question if knowledge about anime can fit into an academic discipline or at least not be considered trivial. I guess now its regarded too trivial by too many, but that can change, maybe if it gets a more important role in society and for more people. Remember that computer science was not regarded as an academic discipline in the 70's and many newer forms of fine art or moving pictures were also in the beginning considered trivial.

If I had an economy that would allow for, being a student is my excuse. I'd probably first get three VNs to my bookshelf: Grisaia no Kajitsu Flyable Heart Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai I'd choose VNs not currently translated, because I think it makes sense, because I'm lazy, if it's released in English, I'd probably just read the translation anyway. One thing that keeps me from shipping VNs from Japan is also, the quite not so nice experience I've had with shipping things from Sweden to Japan. But most of that trouble has been with the Swedish post service, and Japanese post service seems more reliable and flexible. And lastly, I need to get a optical drive in my laptop before...

Downloading BD releases in the highest possible quality, watching it with mpalyer2. It apparently makes my disk-space need quite big tho, currently soon running out of space on 3 TB disk.
