Luch, you were right :/ I'm running Windows 7 on Parallels 9, so the amount of space on my hard drive is limited, and changing it is a little complicated. I was able to delete some Steam games, though, so I solved my own problem. It seems to be installing properly now Thanks for the replies!

I'm 100% sure that my System Locale is Japanese. Anyway, when I try to run the installer, I get this exact problem, but I'm not quite sure how the OP fixed it.

I tried selecting folders at random, but I get this message:

I'm a Mac person, so I'm not the best at fixing things with Windows. I apologize for not being able to fix my problem with the thread I linked to, but I'm not quite sure how to do their solution.

I figured out why I don't like the secret unlockable heroine in Hoshimemo,
Yume.
She reminds me a lot of Daisy from The Great Gatsby. Not so much her personality, but in the way that You obsesses over her. He knows almost nothing about her, yet, at several points in the story, he almost blew off his friends and potential girlfriends just to keep trying to find her. You is very much like Gatsby when he thinks about her, and it's extremely unhealthy. When he isn't thinking about her, he acts like a normal person and enjoys being around his friends. Obsessing over anything that much is bad, especially when it keeps you from moving on in your life. I see Yume as a damaging influence to You, at least before her route, anyway.

I haven't really watched an anime of a VN, but I'd do exactly what I'd do with manga and their anime adaptions. Read the original story, then get to the anime. They love to change plot details in the anime, and that just pisses me off *coughcoughFullMetalAlchemistcoughcough*
Besides, the anime will most likely just choose one route. Only getting part of the story first is lame.

Bummer. I'd recommend saving, even in the prologue, and pressing the right arrow key. It skips dialogue VERY fast; that's what the save is for. If you get close to where you were, press it again. Occasionally it'll just stop, and won't work anymore. If that happens, save where you are and reload that save. You should be able to keep fast-forwarding after that.

You'll know when the prologue is done because a movie will play. I like the song they chose for it :3
Never really been quite sure why, but gore in zombie movies and video games doesn't bother me in the slightest. Usually it's not that realistic, and I know that it's fake. Strangely, if I imagine it after reading it in a book, it's worse for some reason.
I haven't really seen that much gore in anime. They usually just cough up blood, or lie there, bleeding. No internal falling out or brains splattering everywhere. Not exactly complaining, though.

Yeah the soundtrack is a bit annoying. I like the sound effects though, like the crackling fire and swirling wind, really adds to the atmosphere.
I saw Swan Song and was gonna check it out, but...it's a little too dark for me. Not so much in the post-apocalyptic setting, it's just that, like Sengoku Rance, there's a little too much rape for me to try it. Too bad, since I love Fallout 3 and The Road. I really like post-apocalyptic fiction. Are there any other post-apocalyptic VNs that don't have quite as much rape in them? I can handle it if it's implied, but multiple instances of rape being directly shown just makes me sick.

Chinami is the worst.
I think I'm going to be crying during her route. Just the whole time. Tears.
I don't mind gore or tentacles I guess. but once you get children involved its a nono.
Incest is a nono too. But I guess I'll have to suffer through this one.. HNG
lol Chinami gets more bearable. The prologue is pretty hard because it's pretty much just Chinami being annoying as fuck, but really, they tone her down in the rest of the story. I'm going through her route right now, and she's only said "Onii-chan!" (x3) once or twice. I think it's a record.
Tentacles are a little too weird for me, and gore makes me want to vomit, but oh God, kids...just no. NonononoNONONONONONO.

Ahhhh. Well, that's pretty unlucky. Apparently it's commonly thought around here that Saya is not a beginner's VN.
Yeah, generally when a story has rape, tentacle monsters, and kiddie pr0n I go the other way. Not a big fan of any of those. I can handle blood, but gore...gore grosses me out. Can't handle that.
I've only completed Katawa Shoujo and Fate/stay night. I won't be fully completing HoshiMemo, as I hate Isuzu's character and am not really into lolis, like Mare, but I still count that as completing it. I'm also fairly lazy, so...close enough, I say.

It was like monster sex mixed with child sex and it was just all bad.
Was that one of your first VNs? I've heard that Saya is extremely disturbing, and rather hard to get through. Even reading the plot summary freaked me out. That is definitely one VN I will never touch.

Asuho finally getting over her obsession about You not loving her. When she realised he loved her more than anything and broke in tears I also broke in tears
Wow, I didn't think that anyone else cried about that. I'm a sucker for those moments, too. They hit me right in the feels.
I have two moments that are tied for first place.
Fate/stay night:
When Saber goes back to the moment when she's dying after destroying the Grail, and Shirou knows that he'll never see her again and that she'll die.
Hoshimemo:
When Komomo remembers that Kosame is dead, and she and You find her at the lookout trying to get Mare to send her off. I cried for a while after that, and then again when Kosame was still around after Mare cut Kosame with her scythe.

In all honesty for me Kosame and Komomo had the best routes. There shouldve been a route for setsuna though.
Yeah, those two were my favorites, with Asuho's in second. They have more meaning to me than the others.
I was surprised too when I found out that Setsuna didn't have a route. Since she slowly is viewed as a likable person through the different routes, I was almost sure that she was going to have one, but nope. Oh well.

I read this thread sometimes and I have to say that I do not understand why most of you think Chinami's route in Memoria is that good. It was just awful.
Chinami herself wasn't even the focus for half of the route. In all honesty, it wasn't even a route at all! It was just thrown in as a trick to let people who enjoy half-family incest h-scenes get their kicks; it doesn't have the right to even be called Chinami's route. Call it the family route instead.
This character disappointed me in so many ways, just like Mio is a disappointment to solidbatman. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one.
Honestly, I'm not so much into the incest part, but Chinami is pretty much the last main character's route I want to go through. As I mentioned earlier, I really don't like Isuzu, and since I'm not really into lolis, Mare doesn't really interest me, and for some reason I don't care that much about
Yume. She just seems like someone from You's past that he doesn't really need to get involved with again; she almost kept him from moving on with his life.
Mostly I'm just interested in her route because of those small moments in the other routes where Chinami becomes serious and shows a strange side of herself that you don't usually see.

Really not regretting skipping Isuzu's route. I saw the H-scenes, and they weren't that great, at least I didn't think they were. Also, I stopped at the part where
Isuzu blames Chinami for her telescope breaking, and just that scene made me even less likely to play through her route in the future. God, that was just too mean.
I also saw the part with Ren, so I didn't really miss that much.
On to Chinami. I'll actually play through her route, since even though she's annoying, I like her character.

the interesting ones in hoshizora no memoria for me were Kosame, Asuho and Chinami. i just skipped the other routes to see the h-scenes and know only briefly whats going on there
Yeah, I think I'm just going to skip Isuzu's route. I already know why she's so bitchy, and I'm not really into her character, so there isn't much of a reason for me to actually play through it.
I feel slightly guilty, but, meh...not worth it.

Just finished Kosame's route...I didn't like it as much as Komomo's, but it was still pretty good. I thought it was funny how
it's You that hurts himself to get Kosame's attention instead of the other way around, since there's a lot of crappy teen romance novels where the inverse happens. I was almost sure that You died at the end, but I was glad when I found out that I was wrong. That would have been too sad...
Aaaand on to Isuzu's route. Yay.

Alright thanks guys! I played a couple minutes of it last night and it already had me laughing so I think I'll stick with it!
Just a warning: the prologue goes on for a while. One of the longest I've seen, actually. It gets pretty repetitive, especially with Chinami, but it's worth it to just sit down and get through it.

Chinami annoys the shit out of me, what with her yelling "Onii-san, Onii-san, Onii-san!" at You every 5 seconds she's in a scene. I don't actually hate her, though. They just did a really good job of making her annoying.
I've pretty much hated Isuzu since the first time I saw her in HoshiMemo. Her character is pointlessly rude, she's incredibly selfish, and even though she has a reason for being such a bitch, it's nothing like the problems that Komomo has, and at least Komomo is nice. Besides, at no other point in any of the routes I've seen so far has she been anything less than annoying.

That I did. To be fair, though, her husband is only mentioned in text, and doesn't even have his own sprite. I was also assuming that the route would have already existed, and was just speculating on how it would happen.

Mayaka does love her booze. It'd be pretty awkward if that route did exist, since her daughters seem to already be semi-attracted to You. -

Thanks for the offer, but I really don't think I'm cut out for jungling :/ WW is the only jungle champ that I have, and I only really know how to play him top lane. I also don't really like jungling itself; I'm not good at setting up the timers, even on my iPod, and I don't play tanky champs all that well, aside from supports.

Hello again! Well, if you already have HoshiMemo downloaded, I'd play that. It's a nakige, and it has a pretty long common route (it took me about 2 days of non-stop reading for me to get through it), but it's really good. Not quite sure if you care about them or not, but it does have H-scenes, just FYI. If you do end up playing it, I'd look at this. If you don't play through the routes in the correct order, things will get very confusing very fast.
