I play PSO2 every single day, and I can just say it's a mixture of an advertisement for the game and for fans of the game. Like, seriously, the idol concert is just blatant advertisement for the game. The idol, Quna, hadn't done in game concerts in months, and this week she's doing like 2-3 a day, just because of the anime. They even cut off the idol's song so that you'd be more interested in the game to go hear the full song

I remember playing open beta of PSO2. Back when only the interface was translated? Ahhhh yis.  Then SOJ went on a banning spree, and IP range blocking, which basically wiped the US population.

From what I played though, I don't see how they intend to turn it into a good anime.  It didn't seem to have that strong of a story from just the sparse amount of dialogue and even fewer cut scenes.  Then again, I think they had only just released act 2 when I stopped playing :michiru:

Perhaps. I am horrible with naming a correct genre. I can't confirm or decline your rant because I haven't read the source material. But it is the setting with Grimgar I like. They don't have that specific system but they still act as a party and got different "classes". About Kono Subarashii you are most likely correct,. It was just my thought about what I think is going to happen, when someone got high stats in luck you never know. . I could be wrong. :)

I mean, kono subarashii is totally a harem, but it's hardly wish fulfilling.  It's kind of like the inverse of the harem genre I'd say.

    Spoiler

He is constantly cock blocked by the girl's fighting over each other.  Like, that boy must be in pain down below from the amount of blue balling that goes on.  I actually feel sorry for him.

I am a bit late too the party too. But I am watching a couple of shows this season.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar - This art reminds me of Romanesque/Quartett somehow. perhaps it is the same artist. I don't know. I really like the art. That's my kind of art. It is weird and I think a lot could have a problem with it. But I also like the setting. Yes it is cliche with an "online world". But this is a different approach. They don't remember anything and they all are completely useless at what they do and they have a sense of mind about killing other creatures. Also tries to move forward together in a group. Nothing much has been revealed or told after 2 episodes. I like it. Let's see if it continues to evolve.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo - If Gensou no Grimgar was cliche. This is even worse. Nothing much to say that the MC is useless in the beginning and most likely is going to evolve into something brutal later on. Hilarious death though.

Both of these fall into the category of Isekai, so calling them online worlds is a bit off, and in particular with Grimgar, completely off.  Grimgar doesn't have levels, and is pretty much a grim tale of being dropped into a different world.  If I were to classify them, it would be as RPG-lite tales. Calling it "online world" because of class distinction is pretty silly when you consider that we do the same thing with modern military too.

Funny enough for Kono Subarashii, the reason why people enjoy it so much is because the main character is practically okay, but his party member drag him through the mud into being useless.  Even up through volume 5, he's still completely interfered with into being ineffectual. For all intents and purposes he is a hetare protagonist.

On to my rant about Grimgar.  I don't know what the fuck A-1 is doing anymore.  Compared to the novel, the pacing is fucking whacked.  First they cut and slim down a bunch of information in the first episode, and I mean quite a substantial amount.  Next in they do it at a fairly normal pace with the second half and first part of second episode.  They end the second episode with a fucking 4 minute insert with absolutely no story relevance and then the bath scene.  I was curious, so I watched the next episode spoilers. Oh hey, they're in goblin city, back to jumping ahead again.  What the fuck are you doing to this pace A-1, making it do short interval sprinting?  I'm really tempted to delegate this as a promotional piece rather than an adaptation simply for how much they are seemingly trying to prevent showing about half the book.

This show would be my AOTS (GATE doesn't count because it's a continuation), but they are pissing on it so hard I can't give it.

  4. I'm going to drop luck and logic. The story seems to be absolutely within the bounds of something I would watch to relax, but the 3D is the turn off.  Having it switch is just painful, and it became abundantly obvious in the second episode how low quality it is.  It falls into the same trap as Buranki: mismatched framerate.  I should never see stuttering on 3D, it's painful.

As for the story, it seems to be another generic action shonen, and I'm 111% fine with that. This is another case of done fucking up with art by cutting corners.  I came here to watch anime, not RWBY, so fucking animate, not model.

The problem with Phantom World's fanservice for me is that the story seems to be designed so as to force the fanservice down your throat, like Mai touching her body to activate her powers and all the camera angles during those scenes, as well as the past 2 phantoms forcing the heroines into ecchi situations because of course otherwise the conflict couldn't be solved. When you use fanservice as a plot device like this, it feels cheap, and for me even cringey at times, like when they were doing random stretching in bloomers in the middle of a classroom for no reason other than Mai's ass, I had to facepalm at that scene.

Fanservice can't be shown out of nowhere and with such poor context as Phantom World does it, it makes for cringe more than it makes for an exciting situation, and I wish the series would stop attempting to shove it down the viewer's throat so much.

If you want a series to be taken seriously, don't have such forceful fanservice, and if you want a fanservice series, then don't half ass the fanservice either, Phantom World is currently failing at both.

But, honestly, the fanservice is only one of the problems with the show, I legitimately find the story and characters boring so far.

I think it's more of how they emphasize the fan service. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think the idea of Mai touching certain parts of her body to draw out power, as it's a pretty standard idea as a spin from typical chakra.  I think it has more to do with how much the emphasize it.  Either way, it's a fantasy/supernatural series with an okay premise, and some action so I'll still end up watching it.  I can't argue with the bloomers thing, though I did laugh because of how silly it is.  At least they still didn't interrupt the narrative from moving, so it's not completely turrible.

Am I the only one here who enjoys watching never changing ecchi harem shows like Bahamut? Give me anything with cute girls and I'll be there.

Nope, I'll watch them as long as they contain action and aren't terribly animated *cough*Asterisk*cough* or have a laughably bad story *cough*Shinmai Testament *cough*

Confession: I feel really silly in math right now. I took the BC (Calc 2) exam for college credits 4 years ago in highschool, and missed 2 questions, ending up within the 99% of all takers of the test.  Time skip to now, having done absolutely no math, and I'm feeling really lost.  I recognize things, but I can't remember what to do with them.  Time to get a crash course in methods of derivation and integration.  These problems on the homework are integration by substitution, I know the name, I remember the description of it, I even remember fucking doing it, but I can't do it now.

    YAY! :vinty:

I know there is a gif of this exact feeling out there somewhere.

Thank you Studio DEEN for butchering the character animations in Kono Subarashii Sekai.... At least they got the background scenery are more than average... *sigh*

Ahahahahaha I didn't watch it, but it was in fact DEEN who did it. I feel sorry for anyone who wanted a good anime out of the series.

After watching Phantom World and watching the opening this time around, I don't know what to say other than expecting anything other than the sexual exploitation of these girls is silly.  The sexual exploitation might not be silly to some people, but the expection of none certainly is.  Either way I'm enjoying the series well enough that I'll probably be watching it on a weekly basis as I laugh when other people drop it due to their oh so serious opinions on fan service. If you can enjoy hentai, you can enjoy this.

  8. So on my way from school my tire just fucking came off the hub while I was travelling 70mph.

Luckily last summer, we took my car apart, so I knew how to change the tires and where the jack points were.

But before I could actually do anything in fucking -5C, a nice state department guy came and was like "need help" and said he had a better jack. I gladly took his offer. I almost thought it was my halfshaft that should be on it's last legs by now.

May post pics later. Currently eating.

  9. I'm having a hard time in English class keeping myself from laughing.

"Hitler used rhetoric to do great harm."

"You have the option of choosing whether you think it's right or not."

I was already laughing at the Hitler statement. Whenever someone brings up Hitler, I always ask myself, "says who?" and then proceed to think about how I would argue that Hitler should be idolized.

I love the topic of Hitler because it's always so one sided.

Dafuq? Are you guys psychics or something? How did you guys know I'll be here?

Anyways, CeruleanGamer the NTR Witch has arrived to educate you lovelies the beauty of Netorare.

Not everyone who reads NTR are masochist. I am naturally a hard S when it comes to fetishes and pornography and NTR highly appeals to me because....

For me, the greatest appeal of NTR is the CORRUPTION ASPECT.

Nothing is tastier than seeing a well mannered girl or even a strong willed girl become submissive once she surrenders to lust. It's just lovely to see. Most people have the notion that women are these pure and beautiful creatures who do nothing out of the ordinary, but the NTR genre pushes it out of bounds by mixing the powerful emotion of jealousy and depression to create a setting where your typical woman is now a lot hornier and sex crazed than the male protagonist. It's like an escape in real life because the current social outlook in real life is that men are perverts and are always thinking about sex. In NTR, it's different. You now have the girl who is hornier and is willing to surrender herself and become someone's plaything.

There is this old saying: "Men want to sleep with the whore but want to marry the Madonna." NTR reverses that and makes the Madonna, the Mary Sue, the Yamato Nadeshiko, the prim and proper wife the whore and the mixture of corruption, exhibitionism, and voyeurism spices it up and doesn't make it as boring as your typical vanilla VN where it's just a meet n fuck, happily ever after setting.

P.S. Thanks to @Nosebleed for summarizing the types of NTR. Glad I didn't have to write a couple more paragraphs for that.

Thats nice, thanks for summarizing my thoughts, EXACTLY.

I will break you one day. I just need to find you first.

    .........also David Bowie died.

Here's the best you are going to get for your new avatar. It's a simple rescale, and everything else is due to fuwapression. For future endeavors, open up your favorite raster program (Gimp, Photoshop, etc.) and scale it to 150x150px with the best scaling algorithm possible. Dark theme has the largest avatars at that size which means they wont be scaled on fuwa's end.  This means no more blurry scaling.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar looks pretty interesting, too. My only problem for now is that Ranta, the swordsman, is a complete imbecile. Not sure if the author thinks he's going for the "weird but funny" kind of guy, but it's failing miserably at making me feel anything but thoroughly annoyed at how stupid and unfriendly he is.

Like everyone in that series, they are all attempting to cope with what has been thrown at them.  The blatantly obvious world traveler with amnesia is given off, so think about if the insecure class clown got transported and you get Ranta: the guy who tries to make jokes, but with the atmosphere of a new world constantly has to back off.

Grimgal is definitely going to be an anime to watch this season.  I read the first volume from nanodesu, and really enjoyed it.  Sadly though it seems like the anime is liberally shearing scenes, so we are likely to get 3 or 4 episode volumes, meaning reading the book is still a good idea. This will probably be my favorite anime this season.  It's set high fantasy which means I'm going to get a nice soundtrack to add to my collection from it as well.

For the rest of the shows I attempted to watch, I can summarize them in a single paradigm: 3DCG.

Bubuki Buranki is by far the worst offender of the three. They animated the characters in 3d incredibly poorly.   I had to stop after 5 mins because I couldn't stand it.  They somehow thought animating 3d at 12fps was a good idea in a show that runs 24fps on a screen that displays 60.  It looks like a complete mess and I paused the video and "let it buffer" because I wasn't actually sure if it was playing properly.  My god did they fuck this one up.   I don't care if the show ends up with an extremely high rating, I'm pegging it a failure on the animation alone.

Luck & Logic was the second one.  It's 3D wasn't as bad, but it still stood out like a sore thumb.  I think they used the same program that was demonstrated at the end of last season's Asterisk War, the one that did 3D characters.  This one bother me for another reason though too: they split the 3D.  Who thought it was a good idea to draw half the characters and use 3D for the other half?  It almost seems like it's trying to pull a Madoka Magicka and do a complete style change for the "Logic", yet it just doesn't work.  Where Madoka used the style change to instill a sense of discomfort, this just feels half assed and really odd.  I still made it to the end of the episode and I'll probably continue watching despite how awkward it looks, but only time will tell.

The final one was Schwarzmarken. Those BETA were really out of place.  I guess that was intended? It felt more natural than when Luck & Logic did it if only because of the aesthetic choices made.  It's for the same reason that mecha is slowly getting better at blending in the 3D with the 2D.  Aldnoah Zero managed to do it decently, and This show continues with the trend.  I had to end up looking it up because it felt so familiar, turns out this show is part of MuvLuv.  That means I'm putting it on hold until I actually read MuvLuv.

Tonight I get to see if Bahamut falls into the terrible or okay 3DCG category with mechs, though the optimal choice would be if they were drawn, I haven't seen anything from Lerche, and I haven't seen the PV, so yay for surprises! Hopefully this one won't be another Asterisk.

I'm not so sure about that. Do remember that her clan has been practically destroyed, and the prince is basically lying to her about "the lives of her comrades depending on her". At some point in the past, she discovers this and decides to await for a chance for revenge, which takes the form of Japan coming to this world. She says it herself, that she's trying to make the prince king because she knows he won't back down against Japan, which will cause Japan to utterly destroy the Empire, fulfilling her revenge.

So, yeah. In a sense, the actual girl is not exaaactly being raped when having sex with the prince, but it's such a limbo-like situation, and still so forced onto her, that I'm inclined to see it as rape, mostly cuz no matter her intentions, if she had no plans, she would still be in the same situation, forced to have sex.

    Spoiler

In the exact opposite view, this was actually her only choice the moment she became a slave (not a sex slave either). Limbo limbo!

I'm still looking forward to Gate. It's going to be fabulous with the climax of the season.

  13. 6 minutes ago, Jun Inoue said:

Eh, quite the contrary. It IS technically rape. Blackmail is the method, instead of doing it by force. Forcing a slave, who has no real choice due to blackmail, to have sex, is a very clear example of rape. And I'm up to date with the manga, so I'll add that

      Hide contents

Yeah, it ends up serving her plan and all that, but it's not like this is her best option or choice. Due to her past circumstances she's been reduced to a sex slave, raped non stop by the prince singe ages ago. And she still has sex with him due to no having any real options besides that. She's not a free woman using her body and sex to control the prince. She's a sex slave (and a schemer) trying to make smth out of the fact that he'll have sex with her no matter what she says or wants.

    Spoiler

I would still throw it in limbo.  Her having made the decision to be attempt to control the prince via sex would make it not rape anymore.  Sure she is a sex slave, and her initial conditions pushed her towards it, but as the leader I would like to think that the moment she knew she "going to be raped" she took hold of the opportunity to attempt to control the prince, throwing whether it was consensual in the air.

I see your point, I would just rather argue on the actual technicalities. :sachi:

I completely forgot that Koyomimonogatari aired this season. It's a pleasant surprise and although its only 13 min per episode, it's still good~

GATE returns with what all the hipsters wanted; edgy. That raep scene, gosh poor girl....

Not really rape? I mean knowing the actual background, maybe? It's blackmail at most, and if you consider blackmail = rape, you should never visit sadpanda.  I'll wait for you to revise this opinion in like 5 episodes when more is revealed.

  15. 8 hours ago, Jun Inoue said:

Quite true. For example, the fight was a bit too short and silly, but it wasn't bad per se. The animation wasn't cranky, or silly. The MC is annoying? Yes, she clearly is, but the characters respond consequently. They ignore her cuz she's "fresh out of school", which means she'll spew much crap about proper procedures and justice and that she won't know much about how things are ACTUALLY done if you want results. This is smth I found well done, since it kinda reflects many, many professions in the real world.

It's a pretty meh-ish anime, with the first episode not showing too much of anything, but I agree with you that the conclusion "It's fucking boring. Rip one original this season." is smth someone would say when they went into the anime already with an idea of what they want to see there, instead of letting the anime speak for itself.

When I begin an anime, I have zero expectations whatsoever.  I give everything an equal chance to take my interest, and so far it hasn't been doing it.  I'm not the type of person to be affected by "lower expectations, better than expected" because I don't have any expectations anyway.

I just found the show's pace of doing things really off, and that's coming from me, someone who will watch some of the most repetitive shows ever.  Screwing up pacing is a death sentence from me, and this show seemingly did it.

  16. So I finished Active raid episode 1.

This show is really meh.  I'm giving it one more episode before I drop it.  I don't really care if it gets better later on, it's too boring atm.

I'll try to succinct the show:  a girl gets assigned to a new police unit team.  She seems straight from the academy as she keeps going on about justice and "you can't do that".  The rest of the team is just like "you don't really exist" and continue on with business as usual.  Did I mention they are on a train/car hybrid, well they are.  They get a call about a robbery, and a dude goes and gets meched up, then he gets launched from a cannon mounted on the thing, and then a second guy shows up and gets launched as well.  This entire time we see the main girl being ignored. The two officers who got launched fight the perps, they go fly somewhere, and then the girl gets ordered to go run off towards the mechs, which are like a kilo away.  The officers destroy the perps mech and the scene ends with her arriving, somehow, and then shooting a cover parachute like device to prevent them from being seen, because for whatever reason, when the power runs out, the mechs dissolve. Queue girl screaming at unshown dicks.  The episode proceeds to end with them eating dinner together and some shit about the girl being special.

Does it sound boring? It's fucking boring. Rip one original this season.

  17. Gate seems to be doing fine, but I'd like to complain that both Gate AND Heavy Object OP/ED aren't as good as the first season's :salt:

I got interrupted from active raid at like 3 mins in. I need to finish the episode to determine whether or not to continue watching.  It opened up with a headset interface thing.  Thats about it.

1 hour ago, Jun Inoue said:

Super surprised by Divinity Gate. The synopsis promises a cliché and boring story, but the first episode is quite interesting.

And the MC might actually be worth watching! I like how he's scarred, and not just a random happy-go-lucky stereotype of a shonen MC.

It's a video game adaptation. I'm wary enough of these to not touch until the season is over.

You can swap to offline mode after logging on, or it'll default there if you aren't connected at all.

The exception is games with Always-Online DRM built in, as opposed to Steam's base system.  You still need to be online to download, though.

I did that and all my games are telling me that i need to start them online for the first time like I already did many times >_>
Also i think mgs phantom pain doesnt like to play offline either

You can also just set you status to offline, that way nobody can bug you and you can play online.

I'm going to start by saying that I'm an idiot, now with that out of the way, I didn't know you could do that D:
EDIT: it was kinda helpful but not quite, you still login and appear online the first time, i wish you could set it to login as disconnected from the chat as default :/

Why I buy from GOG.  Fuck Steam.  Steam is literally last resort.  I would honestly rather buy from Origin than Steam.  That's right, I would rather give money to EA than Valve. Plus GOG is purely offline installers, so I never need to connect to the internet again after I grab the installer.
