  1. she plays sonohana all the time. the only one she doesn't like is one she said they were pissing on eachother

Wait, in which game did this happen? I don't seem to recall this moment.

I don't have any embarrassing stories.  My parents stay away from me when I'm on the computer or when I'm connecting my laptop to the TV to watch anime.  My dad basically ignores everything japanese because he worked with some assholes in japan for some time (he calls them hypocritical because they preach quality, but will sell you junk on purpose) while my mom is just a xenophobe.  She saw the TV one time while I was watching anime and it was only when she heard the japanese voices that she proclaimed "Turn that shit off".  She was enjoying it up to that point too, and then I deadpan looked into her eyes and said "then why do you go to church? you don't understand latin, so whats the difference".  She hasn't bothered me about it since.

  2. Slice of life, pure romance and VNs with no other purpose than for the MC to get laid are completely worthless and a waste of time to any and all.

People who jerk off of VNs should save themselves the time and just go watch porn..

I found this one pretty funny.  Nukige are in their own league for me.  I'd much rather read them than watch porn because of the setup.  Call me a romantic or whatever, but watching two people mash each other's privates together with no particular purpose makes it feel empty.  Storyline is important, as it gets you involved with the characters.

Here's another unpopular opinion on the same note:

I find the first H-Scenes of a character route important because it lets me know that they've romantically crossed the line, and anything after that I could generally care less about.

  3. Am I being over sensitive or is SakuSaku almost a rehash of HoshiMemo?  It seems like it's using almost the same exact setting and characters, even down to their backgrounds.  We have Tina the Mare, Jinpou the Hisakaki, Konami the Chinami, Mio the Asuho, and Yuri the Aoi.  It is actually appaling how similar they appear to be.

  4. Why not? I personally would disagree here... If I look at wikipedia, the first sentence says the following: "A game is structured playing, usually undertaken for enjoyment ... " Thats the also way I see it and so I would say that fits relatively perfect for me when i play/read a VN... I think we should not be that strict with that stuff... ;)

A: you're quoting from Wikipedia, who anybody can change. B: I don't consider most VN's games unless they have actual gameplay (ie. Rance, Neko Neko Machine Race) and even then, it might be arguable to call them games with hentai content (Kamidori, maybe most things by Eushelly?) rather than actual Visual Novels.   Calling a true visual novel a game is like calling a Choose Your Own Adventure book a board game, its silly.

  5. I see someone declaring war on the Key people here.  :makina:

I've already done that.  Key bores me just as much as the TV station Hallmark.  In fact I basically attribute it to the same reason: they both do the same thing over and over again, so much that it gets repetitive. They have a formula, and they stick to it, so its gotten stale.

Started SakuSaku, seeing if the VN is worth waiting for by reading the common.

  6. A question on the side, how long do people generally take to read a vn?

Check the vndb page for that specific VN, as just like a book, they are all different lengths.

Personally? I generally aim for the 10-30 hours unless I hear about a specific mechanic of the game or that it is overwhelmingly excellent.  I figure more than 30 hours (3 days for the jobless me) means that the story is probably dragging along and I'll be more likely to lose interest.

  7. I'll drop it as soon as it attempts to play a card that makes me think that its a nakige.  There are plenty of ways to involve the player emotionally rather than holding a character hostage for half the game.  I play the game for interaction with the character, taking them away is utterly pointless.

  8. It's just that I don't really like tsun(dere) characters in general. Knowing how they work and will react to everything makes them less interesting. That's why I wondered if she actually turns into one/keeps acting like one, or just stops doing that. As for the other characters, so far I like conversations with Makina best I think (besides the monologues from the mc).

More natural tsun or more natural in her real personality? (or does that happen to be the same?)

Michiru puts on the act for a very specific reason, and thus is part of her character.  Once you meet that confrontation, you suddenly won't feel estranged by it and realize how natural it was for her to do it.

  9. While she gets more interesting, she stays equally dumb - or gets even worse, arguably, since you're suddenly expected to take her as something more than a comic relief character.

But yeah, lets wait for what Sirius has to say, maybe I just hate on Michiru too much. And I might actually be in the minority here. :D

I concur, while she never gets "smarter", she does sort of drop the act later on and it becomes much more natural.  I must say that when I read it, I ranked her fairly lowly with Makina as my favorite as her route was much more action and catered to what I cared about the most.  Honestly in retrospect, Michiru's route might be the most emotionally impactful with Sachi following.

  10. I think I'm about fifteen minutes into the common route of Grisaia no Kajitsu. My first impressions are that it is pretty promising (it's my first primarily romantic VN, not counting nukige).

I just met Michiru, and while I don't know what's the deal with the protagonist, Amane best girl so far.

Edit: The least thing I expected was

Yuuji calling Michiru out as a tsundere. The rehearsal was a bit "wut" but I really like the protag now. GG Yuuji.

Edit 2: SO MANY UNFORGETTABLE QUOTES

"This woman is trying to disrupt the economy of the shopping district via her tits"

"When students shut themselves up in their room, the only answer is homework or masturbation."

Wait for some of Makina's later lines, she has some of the singular best ones ever.

I just finished My Girlfriend is the President and I had to skip through Yukino's route.  It was so boring, and after checking the FanDisk, I'm glad they picked what are my opinion, the two better of the four routes, hopefully they keep up the shenanigans like in their stories.

Back to Cross Channel which for some reason I stopped after 4 hours in when it was getting really good.  Seriously, I have no clue why I stopped, it was hitting all the right points for me to enjoy a well put together  story.
