  2. I wrote a review of the Dell Inspiron 11 convertible for Visual Novel purposes, it cost $450 when I bought it but has quite a few advantages over the 8-10 inch Windows 8 Tablets: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3264886522?see_lz=1 (In Chinese)

Bay trail can handle most games although it is pretty slow and lags are more apparent when you skip or use external software such as VNR. Cheap 8 inch tablets running Windows 8.1 with Atom Z37XX are quite popular among the visual novel community, although make sure that you're fine with the screen size, storage space, and highly limited performance. (Popular Models: Asus T100, Asus M81C, Dell Venue 8 (Windows 8.1 Ver.), Dell Venue 11 (Z3770 Ver.), Lenovo Miix 2 (8 or 10 inch), Lenovo Thinkpad 8, etc.

On the other hand, Haswell-U/Y or the latest Broadwell-M devices are certainly going to deliver a better experience with a better processor, integrated GPU, and SSD. These are also going to cost more (Consider the starting price of the Surface Pro 3) and won't be much different if all you do is play visual novels, not heavy web browsing or demanding software, in the end, it all depends on what you'll use the tablet for.

  3. Most of the Majikoi cast are likeable and quite unique

A in Shiei no sona nyl, nice support since we have a female protagonist, didnt like the dude in shikkoku

Takeya in White Album 2 CC, awesome and decisive, unlike the naive highschoolbrained protagonist

Lucius in Aiyoku no Eustia, self explanatory,

Little busters also has a nice set of support, once again, the protag is shit so the rest are much more appealing

The blue hair in gekkou no carneval, decent antagonist though he doesnt get much screen time

Oslo in grisaia no meikyuu (rakuen not so much) for crossdressing yuuji lol

Gasai in comyu, again, more interesting than the protagonist

The red hair from dark blue, spoilers if i say what he did

won't mention all the gar in dies irae, imo too lame

  4. Visual novels are a medium of storytelling. They come in a variety of genres and styles, there's no point generalizing the works of any particular country or language when they differ so much individually.

  5. not bad for the price, but i gotta say that although VNs are among the least hardware demanding games, the low clocked silvermont core will struggle with 720p ones. It might not be apparent under automode but we tested tiny dungeon 3 on a dell venue 8 (same perf), frames are choppy and the game isn't as responsive especially during special effect transitions. Other ones with built-in combat systems, BSD for example, are entirely single thread reliant and won't run good. also, the 1GB ram wont give you much freedom to exploit the 4 cores, the 32GB emmc with only a micro-USB port also hinders the number of games you can carry at once. this could suit whoever needs to play typical (800x600) VNs, one or two at a time, with no background processes and will only run simple software or apps. otherwise, i'd recommend a more expensive general purpose convertible.

heres's a reference benchmark, it measures the time it takes to skip from the beginning of the VN 天神乱漫 to the first choice. note that the atom z3735 in this has the same theoretical performance as the z3740.

  6. doraemon, crayon shin chan, digimon, those used to air on tv back when i was a kid. I really got into anime around 6 or 7 years ago, with soul eater, haruhi suzumiya, code geass, and the likes. i don't really watch anime anymore, the industry and its audience has changed quite a lot over the years, and i have aged too. it's really hard to find a good show each season, given the current trend of moe, imouto, fanservice, high school kids, etc. etc..

  7.

This right here tells me that you and I are going to have wildly different views on this anime.  The common route was long to be sure, but shitty?  Highly disagree.  It is -so far- the best slice of life comedy that I've encountered in an anime or VN.

Now to be sure, I think that the anime could tone down the sheer volume of panty shots, but given the nature of the comedy in the story, it's not really a black mark against the show.  I think that ignoring the common route would have been a huge mistake.  Heck, I don't think that ignoring the common route would even be possible without completely sidelining Michiru(all of her best scenes are in the common route).

  8. Well, this is really shit. They went fanservice all the way, I recall the VN having a shitty common route but this is on another level.

what really disappoints me is that the adaptation had the potential to assemble a rather decent plot from the later parts of Kajitsu, a few flashbacks from Meikyuu, and the middle parts of Rakuen with selected scenes of the school slice of life as a background relationship builder. They chose to focus on masturbation and panty shots instead, sadly, it's not too surprising if you consider the kind of shit today's anime audience want.
