  1. Totally agree with you on this. I also dislike games where the other heroine routes are just something like add-ons, tacked on as an afterthought, or worse, not considered worthy of giving a proper ending inside the world where they exist. If a heroine is getting a route in a game, she should have, in the very least, an ending that's possible, not a "what-if" kind of a thing. Now that I think of it, aren't Rewrite' s (the original and main game's) heroine endings like this too? Thanks for telling which games follow this kind of structure. Another fact: This exact same feeling is what all the "heroine" routes in the anime-or-LN-turned-games give off. Case in point, Date a live. I have read only part of the first game, every single one of them gave a what-if routes, and it was as if the game itself was telling the same to my face. Kurumi's route was awesome though, and they adapted it into an OVA and decided to give it a "different" ending. I'm willing to bet the others are the same. Maybe this is the norm for this particular class of games, dunno. But going through them is quite suffering for me.
  2. Well, this definitely looks interesting. In my limited experience, VNs with an adult protagonist are quite rare (the ones that are not nukige, lol), and the protagonist type is right up my alley, so this definitely looks nice. But well, the scenario writer went on to write White Album 2 after this work, so maybe it's kinda expected? I'd definitely like to read this once. How is the average length, btw?

  4. Well, from my personal experience (I'm a guy btw), anyone I've recommended any VN to, their biggest "issue" is that they are long. I'd suggest you and she try True Remembrance. Small, not long, freely available, all-ages, and a great and touching story. Though I haven't read Planetarian, it seems something like this. Good luck!
  5. ~A profile~ Sono yokogao wo mitsumeteshimau It's translated into English, and is a little dark, but no rape I believe. One of the heroines is non-virgin (you'll find out in the course of the game). I personally liked the VN quite a bit.
  6. As a fansubber who is also a bit involved with fan translation, here is what I personally feel on this matter: 1. As Clephas and others rightly mention, a VN is much, much longer in terms of raw line count than your average anime. As an example, the DCIII anime had 3702 lines of dialogue in 13 episodes, whereas the trial alone for Fureraba has 5011 lines in the trial, with approx. 48000 lines in the full VN. This also means a lot more commitment than many anime. I feel that quite a few people are unwilling to commit to such a task. 2. The average length of a line is often more in a VN than an average line in an anime series. Usually, in anime, it's mostly a sentence at most. But for a VN, taking an example (from Irotoridori no sekai): 相手が自主的に話そうとしないことを、根掘り葉掘りと聞き出そうとするのは……何というか、綺麗じゃない。そんな気がするからだ。 (If someone is unwilling to speak out about the circumstances by themselves, interrogating them thoroughly about that is... how do I put it, not very elegant. That's how I felt.) That is one "line". It's quite longer than your anime dialogue, and this is what struck me as most different when I started working on a VN. 3. This, while I find hard to digest, but is true, is the fact that anime seems to have a larger fanbase than VNs. Thus, it maybe so that working on a VN gives lesser recognition than say, speedsubbing a popular anime show and releasing it in 6-12 hrs after airing. This same reason holds for why people don't fansub older anime to quite an extent, in my opinion. 4. Another point would be that many people who like anime, cannot or do not find VNs very enticing themselves, and as such are not much enthusiastic about working on them. It's the variety of human nature. This should include fansubbers to an extent too. My best friend used to be an expert Translator of anime, but he didn't like even reading VNs, much less than working on one. When I asked him why, he said he preferred more of a "motion picture". But hey, things might be changing, even if bit by bit and very slowly. I do hope people and especially fansubbers take more interest in VNs in future.
  7. In real-life, almost none of my friends don't even know what anime is, let alone Visual Novels. ;_; I'm trying to get some of my friends into VNs though. One of them finished Forte's route in Galaxy Angel, but that's about it so far.
  8. I was just looking for a nice something to read, when I stumbled across True Remembrance, and I haven't looked back since then.
  9. Another possibly helpful tip: try hooking the game using ITH (not agth), and that should tell you what the engine is (for example BGI or Kirikiri etc), most of the time, especially if a custom hook is needed for it. But that's as good as knowing the name of the engine.
  10. Yoshinaga-sanchi no Gargoyle (The Gargoyle of the Yoshinagas). A 2006 anime that is little-known, and in my opinion, never got the attention it deserved. But it still remains one of the most memorable anime in my book due to its awesome community spirit, asking and tackling of questions that sound silly on the surface but have many hidden implications, and not to mention the endearing cast, each having a lot of depth. It's a Light Novel adaptation of 16 vols, and it never got the love it deserved...
  11. I played Sekachu when the trial came out, and preordered it! The tokutens will come to me any day now! It's an awesome VN imo, just from the trial.
  12. Hey, I'm not much into the technical things, but have you tried the latest version of AE VN Tools? I can't guarantee it will work, but won't hurt to try.
