  1. I guess I'd be fine with using Teamspeak, if it doesn't require the registration of (true) personal data... but Facebook and Skype are out for me.
  2. Why leave it to someone else when you can pull the trigger, stab with the knife, or poison them yourself? I'm not much for torture... give them a nice, quick death without a chance to realize what happened. Revenge is pointless, but retaliation is just logical.
  3. For live chatting, it is preferable... and for text, it is perfectly solid. Also, there are cracks to get around the trial, lol. I find it to be convenient... but that's because I've been using it for well over a decade. Skype feels clunky and hard to use for me, in contrast. Edit: Really, it is because most of the experienced English-speaking otakus are on irc on Rizon... and I like to minimize the number of programs I have on at any given time. Also, you don't have to give irc any real data to get it to work... no signing up for anything, no giving of real email addresses that have to be confirmed... I hate skype and stuff like that because of that kind of thing. Also, I wouldn't touch Facebook with a seven thousand foot spear.
  4. Foolmaker walkthrough: http://g-seeker.net/game/k/comu.html Green-marked choices aren't available on first playthrough. Start from the beginning after finishing Benio's route to access the choices necessary for Hisoka, Mayuki, and Ayaya's routes, saving at the points where it tells you to. Just make sure to mark which choice you are at and translate the choices using tl aggregator or some similar program. Despite what the walkthrough says, you don't need to see the bad end at the beginning to progress.
  5. mirc? Make a channel. #TinydungeonDiscussion Also, schedule it. I'm free this Sunday...
  6. Ok, I'll give you a list, starting with the translated or soon to be translated and moving on to the untranslated. translated/STB translated: Tsukihime (same series, older, even more dated visuals and sound, but it is a good story) Demonbane (JastUSA, Cthulhu Mythos) Comyu (partial already up for download) Ayakashibito (soon) Rewrite (because someone is bound to mention it, despite the fact that it really isn't the same thing - it has fantasy action, but the action isn't central to everything, lol) Shikkoku no Sharnoth (again, not really the same thing, as Liar-soft has a really unique style... but someone is bound to mention it) Sekien no Inganock (ditto to above) Untranslated Gurenka (action/fantasy, with a fighting protagonist and several non-human heroines, along with a common enemy... definitely a descendent of FSN, lol) Devils Devel Concept (much, MUCH darker than FSN, though it doesn't have any rape scenes and the protagonist isn't the weakest of the bunch - the reverse, actually) Jingai Makyou (viva Nitroplus) Soukou Akki Muramasa (similar to DDC, much darker than FSN, though it is also fantasy action, this time with mechs and katanas, haha) Dies Irae (very dark VN, makes no apologies for its melodrama and this) Paradise Lost (prequel to the game above, much older, comparitively dated visuals and story) Kajiri Kamui Kagura (based off of an alternate future of Dies Irae) Vermilion Bind of Blood (vampires, cool powers, no good guys, and insanely scary villains) Evolimit (one of my permanent top ten) Bullet Butlers (fantasy world, combining WWII tech levels with sorcery, elves, and lizardmen, lol) Tokyo Babel (dark fantasy action utilizing Christian apocryphal mythology) Gensou no Avatar (doujin, Japanese mythology, decent action) Yurikago yori Tenshi Made Shinigami no Testament Bloody Rondo Gekkou no Carnevale (Nitroplus, action, werewolves, and living dolls) Para-sol (like most of the games by this company, a bit weird, but it is good fantasy action) Soranica Ele Boku ga Sadame Kimi ni Tsubasa wo (not the best of this type, but it is decent) fortissimo EXS//Akkord:nächsten Phase Gensou no Idea
  7. I'll join you for Tiny Dungeon, though if you'll please, not on skype. I don't want to hate you, so I can't afford to hear your voice (my default reaction to human voices that are more or less live is absolute, undiluted hatred and a desire to smash things... other than my mother and possibly my younger brother). Well, that's something of an exaggeration, the fact is I am a devoted misanthrope when conversing vocally, and I'm also slightly autistic, so I'm not very articulate either, lol.
  8. Keep an eye on the Ayakashibito and Comyu projects. The former is in the last stages and the latter has partial patches (route patches) with only the true route incomplete. Both are near the top of my list of favorites, so you can be sure of quality.
  9. This is from Comyu, and it is something for yall to look forward to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duBeImGrkHo
  10. http://vndb.org/v13651 Just finished this. This is the rarest of all VNs, a pure-comedy VN. This game exists solely to make the reader laugh, and it manages to do so quite well. I spent most of the game just laughing at the absurdity of the thing... though after playing through all the heroines at once, I started to get tired of it, lol. The protag is an idiot, as well as being nekketsu, but that's fine, as the game does a good job of making him into a joke character like just about everyone else. For people who just want cheap laughs, this is a great VN to play. However, don't go into this expecting a real story or complex romance.
  11. Demonbane; Saya no Uta; Hello, World, Phantom of Inferno; Soukou Akki Muramasa; and Jingai Makyou. The list of VNs by Nitroplus better than the science series. Except for Muramasa, all the VNs by the main company made after Sumaga are second or third-rate.
  12. Badass, lol. I just have a temper that I had to spend time learning to control. That and an utter lack of moral restraint when it came to fighting. What led me to try to learn to restrain it was pragmatism, after I saw a few people get sent off to 'alternate education' schools for fighting and going too far. I like air-conditioner and being able to read whatever I feel like reading, and I hate having to sleep in the same room as other human beings, so I picked the best way to avoid that fate, haha.
  13. Clephas

    Books!

Sun Tzu's The Art of War, The Malazan Book of the Fallen (dark fantasy with Martin's brutality, but with a more interesting setting and actual humor) series by Stephen Erikson, and the Foreigner series by CJ Cherryh (cultural sci-fi at its best). edit: I have read the Night Angel trilogy, and it is good. However, it is fairly obvious Brent Weeks is both a fantasy-lover and an otaku, haha. Flutterz, I've read all of the Michael Crichton books you have there and the Ringworld series... good taste, for the most part. Like most writers who got too big, too fast, Crichton suffers from SK syndrome (Stephen King Syndrome), but he is still good, for the mystery/scifi genre.
  14. Mmm... the thing I most hate about myself is that I am a misanthrope. I despise people - making exceptions on a one-on-one basis - on general principle, and being around people in the flesh makes my skin crawl. I also have an explosive temper that I spent years getting under control... but it isn't gone. I just found ways of getting the anger out without going on a rampage, beating the shit out of someone who pissed me off (ie. holding someone up by the neck for a half-hour with one hand while I eat lunch because he tried to steal a Diet Coke from me). Edit: The truly unfortunate aspect of my temper is that my brain still works... it very efficiently tells me the best way to take out my rage on the person in front of me. It tells me to go for the eyes, the throat, the solar plexus, the joints, and the balls. If the person is down, it tells me a good kick to the trachea will finish things nicely, and it also very politely informs me that breaking the guy's wrists in multiple places will prevent him from trying to get revenge on me personally. I get a huge adrenaline boost, so it is also very easy for me to do these things physically. I'm just lucky I didn't kill anyone in middle school or early high school. Edit2: I got it under control when I realized playing Doom and Final Fantasy VI (at the time Final Fantasy 3), killing monsters burned most of the rage and related stress out of my system, and it got even better when Goldeneye for the N64 came out... killing things and people in video games saved my sanity.
  15. This probably goes without saying, but about 80% of all moege have all-happy endings. Bittersweet endings, dark endings, and bad endings are primarily relegated to story-focused, horror, mystery, and action vns. Nakige and charage almost always are all-good endings (though sometimes they'll have bittersweet endings. If you really want, I can give you specific, untranslated suggestions, but I won't bother if you aren't interested in or can't play the untranslated.
  16. http://vndb.org/v12987 Just finished this. This game is a nakige, with a protagonist who takes the stereotypical 'kind-heartedness' of harem-plagued protags to extremes. The fact that that is exactly what is needed for the girls in the story and the general situation as a whole saves the story from being a series of boring tropes. I won't go into detail - because it would ruin the story - but this game is exactly what lovers of nakige in general are looking for. You have a deredere (borderline yandere) heroine in Towa, an adorable and expressionless loli in Ena, your classic tsundere (also baka) in Amane, and the seito kaichou (seriously, I've already forgotten her name... her story was by far the weakest of the four). tbh, this game can be experienced totally without going through the seito kaichou's route. The most important elements of the overall backstory are revealed in the other three paths, and the most personal emotional moments - aside from romance - in the story are in the other three routes. I also liked that the protag actually has a skill and talent that he pursues earnestly and competently, which is a huge plus for a VN protag in a nakige/moege/charage. If I have a complaint about the game it is that they spent less time around the professional doll-making elements and those kind of practical issues, but considering the nature of this kind of game, it isn't a surprise. Overall, this game is one of the better games I've played (non-action) in the last six months, and it is definitely something I can recommend to the lovers of cheap catharsis and emotional situations. I'm about to start: http://vndb.org/v13651
  17. lol... it is funny how how Loppez never really understands what he reads. @Tom: The major factors that might cause problems for a child if they were exposed to sexual knowledge too early would be public scolding from non familial adults for speaking about sex amongst other children (leading to embarrassment and other such annoyances), a sense of disconnection from others their own age, and a lack of gut-level understanding of how society sees sex. While all this might seem minor, they can all cause problems later in life and alter the course of a kid's development. If you are human, it isn't possible to escape the influence of cultural taboos completely as long as you are a part of that culture. Isolation or a sense of disconnection from others caused by the breaching of those taboos is - generally speaking - a source of immense suffering for many (people who can stand being shunned are relatively rare, though many think they can stand it). Thankfully, taboos can change over time, though it can take decades and even generations at times. As for sex-education, I believe that everyone should be given a full education on sex, its dangers, its benefits, and its other results around age twelve or thirteen. It makes me want to puke when I see schools that try to use 'abstinence-only' sex-education that barely gets beyond the cabbage patch theories, lol
  18. For one question... would I let my kids see NSFW-labeled pics? The honest answer to that question is probably going to be a no, in most cultures. Early exposure to sexual material (it is wise to educate as they enter puberty, but before that...) can have adverse effects on a kid's ability to adapt socially. That's not to say that sexual material in and of itself is unhealthy to the psyche. If anything, sexual material is beneficial, if those around you are supportive of you. However, cultural taboos make such an environment almost impossible to create. While sex-related materials have always been a part of art, since the beginning of civilization, modern attitudes about sex in the West tend to be over-influenced by Christianity, for better or worse. Christianity makes sex into a shameful act, outside of producing kids, and that does a huge disservice to people, as people who are over-repressed sexually tend to form all sorts of 'interesting' complexes and fetishes. Japan is the most sexually repressed modern culture on the planet... but it also has the most fetish-infested sexual culture on the planet. What does that tell you?
  19. Kuki-sensei is someone to look forward to... He's the one-eyed guy.
  20. My favorite antagonist is a bit harder... but Kuki-sensei from Ayakashibito is probably the coolest antagonist I've encountered in a VN. I mean, he is just... awesome.
  21. Shigure Sora from Devils Devel Concept or Shiranui Yoshikazu from Evolimit.
  22. Yeah, that series ended with KKK, and even KKK is basically an alternate future of Dies Irae.
  23. Witch's Garden is a fantasy/moege/charage with a decent story. It isn't the best of that type of all time, but it is the best on this list. Akatoki has a following, but like most games of its type, it mostly attracts due to the presence of a battle system (there are games with a battle system that also have good stories, like Aselia and Ikusa Megami Zero, but most games of the type are supported by the battle system, using battles to cover up for a lack of writing skill, lol). tbh, I'd probably vomit if I thought I had to translate any of these games... but that is mostly because I'm one of those translators who will begin to loathe games that I don't idolize if I have to tl them, haha. Has to be a favorite, or I'll want to run away screaming, smashing things, and otherwise making myself look like I'm even more insane than I am.
  24. I more or less agree with Rus on this... I don't believe in 'continuing' a story that is already over. This game pretty much leaves you emotionally exhausted and wanting a break, even though you enjoyed it. Light doesn't really do fandiscs, so that is probably out. I say the grand route's character endings are somewhat unsatisfying, but that is mostly because each one is pretty much the same except for Mizuki's first one. The climax is the same, regardless. tbh, it probably would have closed better if there had just been a grand route single ending and a Mizuki ending, rather than all those half-assed heroine extra ends. Edit: I guess it is because of the characters going through all those horrible experiences... but I adored the antagonists for Hachimyoujin. I mean, Seiji is like the worst kind of human being that could possibly exist, and Shinno Akikage is a demon (and acts like it).
  25. I'd suggest Witch's Garden or Akatoki (though Witch's Garden would be my first choice from amongst those), because most of those are crapfests (JustyXNasty is the worst Whirlpool game I've ever played) or near-nukige (Libra Academy and Slaven)
