  1. I'm loving GTA V, but I'm probably playing it wrong:  I have literally spent 3 hours playing it as a glorified bicycling sim.  (First person biking! Try it!)

Oh, no. That sounds about right. I'm making it a point to really take the time and smell the flowers and enjoy the world R* built myself. I sink quite a few hours in between missions just watching the in-game tv programs, joy riding and listening to the radio, and doing all the hobbie mini-games. Cycling is crazy fun, particularly down Mount Chiliad. Also, the work they did underwater was pretty surprising. You can buy scubagear and even a small submersible and just go at it exploring the sea floor.

  2. One of these days, I'll get around to KotOR, and it better be the best Star Wars game ever with all the hype around it.

I would without a doubt say it is, even if I try to filter out all the nostalgia involving it. Living up to a decade wide legacy is probably a different thing, though. Between the hype it's built up and its age, it might fall short of expectations. The story and it's characterization is fantastic however, especially for Star Wars.

  3. Wouldn't want to dishearten you but that's definitely not Watanabe's best show... (Well, he made only amazing stuff before that >_>)

Starts out very well, great music of course... But in the end... It's kinda disappointing.

I'm not totally surprised to hear that. Given my high expectations, it wouldn't be strange for it to be disappointing in some ways. I appreciate the heads up though, maybe I can reel my expectations in before I start watching and enjoy it for what it does well and try not to be disappointed from any prejudices.

  4. These are what immediately came to mind, though I'm sure I'm neglecting so many games.

    In no particular order:

    1. Stars Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
    2. Pokemon (series): I know It's a cop out, but I truly can't pick my favorite generation.
    3. Final Fantasy X
    4. Persona 4 (very hard to choose between 3/4)
    5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

    Honorable Mention:

    Catherine

    Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

    The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

    Street Fighter (series)

  5. I personally am enjoying the game, but it doesn't really take a whole lot to entertain me. The gameplay changes slightly the further into the game you get, but I can only speak for the route I'm on. I'm also enjoying the story. The comedy is good as well .It seems to me that there is more dialogue compared to Kamidori.

Kirara route is good (well, about 7.5/10 good, not 10/10), Ai okay, Yumina and True End from silly to absolutely ridiculous and very shounenish, and Tilscield story is just teaser w/out any good conclusion.

I like space operas and total wars against extraterrestrials, so I don't regret completing Yumina, but I'm glad I've used artmoney and didn't bother with grinding.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. That estimation of the each route's quality is reassuring and better than I was expecting.

After going over this thread one more time and scouring the internet for other pieces of information, I think I'll give this game a shot sometime after I get my fill with GTAV next week. If it falls short of what I'm expecting, at least I can take comfort in supporting the medium commercially for once.

  6. How passable/worthwhile is the story in this game?

In spite of having what I feel were very weak and unenjoyable stories, I was able to sink a lot of time into Daibanchou and Kamidori because of their gameplay mechanics. I've been reading some pretty lukewarm receptions of the gameplay for this game however, so I'm hoping the narrative might be more compelling then the previously mentioned titles and fill in for what (might) be lacking in the gamey side of things.

That being said, I enjoyed the gameplay from the demo. However, I don't know how much that will hold out into the late game or subsequent playthroughs. So any comments in that area or recommendations for the game would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  7. Already plenty of good suggestions here, but might I suggest Majikoi?. The dynamic between the characters is strong and I found it very satisfying. Only 4 out of the 5 main heroine routes and the teacher side route are translated, though. It might also have more comedy than you'd prefer.

  8. I'd rate both of them as about the same. Kira Kira has better endings, though. Specially the first Kirari ending. It's great.

What Nakuya said, mostly; I'll add that Kira Kira goes genre shift mode after the long common route (similar to Deardrops), focusing on character drama (as TakaJun says in his review, likely a case of the writer of Swan Song and producer bamboo wrestling for control here). I personally rated Deardrops .2 points higher than Kira Kira if I remember correctly, but Kirari's normal end is a major standout (and Chie's end refreshing somehow). Definitely recommended.

Hm. I definitely think I'll prioritize it over a few things, then. Maybe read it as a palate cleanser after Rewrite.

    Thank you.

  9. Welcome to the forums! What are your favorite VN's that you have played so far?

That’s probably a harder question for me than it should be. I’m the type of person who gets so engrossed in what he’s currently reading that I can get a little hyperbolic in my opinions for the current title, so much so that afterwards it can be difficult to discern the sentiment from a more earnest and reasonable opinion.

That being said, I have quite the soft spot for G-senjou no Maou. It was the VN that really pulled me in and made me hungry to taste more of the medium. Fate/Stay Night, despite some misgivings, had such amazing world building that it can’t help but list it. Narcissu plucked at the right heart strings. Deardrops was just fun and resonated with me. I’m still currently reading it, but I think If My Heart Had Wings will end up as a favorite of mine. There’s something just so simple and beautiful thematically about it and the sense of progression between the two arcs that make up a playthrough is structured great I feel, in spite of some of the shortcomings of the routes I’ve read. And of course, Ever17 would be missed if I didn’t mention it.

    Thanks for you welcome.

  10. I've been reading visual novels off-and-on for a little under 3 years now, particularly more so now than ever, and I thought it would be worthwhile and enjoyable to join the Fuwanovel community and take place in all the interesting discussions. This place is great.

I look forward to getting to know you all and hope I can contribute in a meaningful way.
