  1. Your time seems like it's well-occupied. ;)

And, yeah. That business choice was strange. I can understand wanting to reach a wider market, but I don't understand how they couldn't forsee alienating the already existing one. They went well above and beyond catering to an all-ages market.

  2. Seems like most people here have a desktop. Then there is me, who just sits down with my laptop where ever I feel like and works on what ever it is that needs to be done.

I use both, but I'm on my laptop the majority of the time. My desktop is pretty much just regulated to gaming. The laptop is for everything else: course work, VNs, messing around on the internet, etc. It's just more convenient, like you said.

  3. From a narrative point of view, they’re not necessary. Sometimes they even end up detracting from the story and cheapen it. They are often out-of character, out-of the moment, or just flatly  end up cannibalizing good characterization and attaching it to all those annoying clichés present in like every H-scene ever.  You know the ones.

Ideally, if an H-scene could be removed and nothing in the story would be affected, it shouldn’t be there. I don’t mean  two characters banging should be the reason the big bad gets defeated  or resolve some central conflict, but it should end up being reflected in their relationship and offer character development, for good or worse. Most importantly to me, I want them to be contextually relevant and natural.

From a marketing stand point, I couldn’t say. I’m not all-that knowledgeable about the eroge market. I get the impression that they’re a staple of the medium and a good marketing tool. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of sales were helped along by them just being in there.

That being said, I’m more than a little of a pervert, so I’ve certainly found enjoyment in them. In fact, I'm mostly okay even if they don't add anything to the story, so long as they don't detract from it.

  4. Thank you for sharing that, Nayleen. You must have been apprehensive about getting that personal and going into all that, but it was a very touching and I enjoyed reading it. It’s awesome to see how a small online community for a niche hobby can mean so much to someone. It’s no doubt a testament to all the great people here.

I wish you all the best and I thank you for all the hard work you’ve put in.

  5. Catherine is amazing =) Though the evil end is so much more epic than the good one. I wouldn't have liked the game nearly as much if I had gone for the good end. Trying to explain to my girlfriend why a game about cheating is so good is...tough >.>

I don’t know.  The true Catherine end is fun, but I think I prefer the good Katherine end.  I just felt like it was more in line with the Vincent’s character.

I told my girlfriend at the time I found it so compelling because it focused on themes that typically don’t get a lot of treatment in videogames: infidelity and the fear of commitment. Plus, horror/romance is an interesting genre combination when you think about it and on top of that they threw pretty fun puzzle mechanics into the mix.

    Thaaaat's enough gushing.

  6. That's a little difficult to pinpoint. I had dabbled here and there, but the first one that I consciously identified as being a “visual novel” and got me hungry for the medium as a whole was G-senjou no Maou. I was hooked from the get-go the moment i heard Air on G. So much so that after I completed it, I just had to immediately start Sharin no Kuni.

  7. Welcome to the forums!

You might enjoy Litle Busters!, Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai!, or Fate/Stay Night for the visual novel side of things of your recommendation.

    Hope to see you around.
