  1. Due to the high popularity of this contest, I have decided to add prizes for second and third place. For coming in second place, you will win a copy of World End Economica! For third place, you will win a copy of Dysfunctional Systems Episode 1!

That's very exciting news. I'm sure it'll make for an even more exciting competition.

I also neglected to thank you in my entry post. So thanks for putting so much into the community.

  2. I don't really watch much anime, but what keeps me motivated to keep playing visual novels is that it offers a catharsis that no other medium matches. The format simply offers more room for investment and release than movies, television, and books.

So whenever i finish a novel or anime i liked, i can't help but feel a bit sad since it's over.

I've got a pretty bad case of this.  I always get a little... uh, apprehensive towards the end of a really good show or novel.

  3. Most of what you say is factually correct. Of course I'm a bit biased on that point since I helped in the fan restoration patch. However, I can say that the patch was necessary, just the sheer amount of cut content was a bit disappointing. Some of the TL was either too stiff or just plain did not make sense. I just wish they had at least QCed it a bit more before releasing it. On the bright side, we got the community together to work on something and to fix what we saw as a problem.

Oh, certainly. I'm glad that there is a restoration patch, I honestly don't think I would've played it otherwise.

  4. Ohh so it's just an English translation problem? Looks like a few peeps from Fuwanovel are actively reworking on re-translation though, so I may save it for when they release their patch. And I guess Moenovel did that to try to appeal to a Western audience moreso (and maybe not create an image of VNs being purely animated porn or something like that). Still, I heard somewhere that the censored stuff is kind of integral to the plot right?

I'm not too familiar with that side of things, just know some people weren't satisfied with the quality. When I first started reading it my first thought was it came off as a little unnatural or stiff, but that misgiving went away after like 10 minutes of reading and only resurfaced at a few other parts.

About the censorship thing, I don't have the strong opinion some other people may have regarding it. I understand why they did it and I can appreciate their intention, as both a VN reader and as a business student, but they went overboard in their application and I think they ended up missing their core consumer/audience due to that ambition. I don't think 12-year old French girls are the smartest market to target. :P

That being said, the stuff they cut might not be called integral to the story's themes, but they did change a staggering amount and I think it would be fair to say it's lessened from it. Apparently the localization had 12% fewer lines than the original script.

  5. Oh! I saw that on the front page of Fuwanovel - was definitely keen to give it a go because the graphics looks amazing. In that case, it's on my list! I heard some people don't like the way its been translated into English though? Is that right Nohman?

I've read some things to that effect. Most of the handful of complaints I've read about the translation had to do with just the english itself. I read one that claimed at one point the translation for a line was different than what was said, but I can't really attest to that since I don't know Japanese. Regardless, I'm enjoying it.

The big contreversy was the sheer amount of liberty moenovel took with censoring the game. Luckily, there's a restoration patch should you not agree with their choices.

  6. Yeah, I agree with most people here. As long as the story is good, either option is fine. Often times, the choices in VNs aren't exactly dynamic or interesting enough to be considered a selling point in my mind. They're exceptions to this of course (Fate/Stay Night for example), but often the choices simply come down to what route do you want to read next.
