  1. I've read Euphoria is pretty much a sex game for "How much can you take before X'ing out?"

Saya no Uta is definitely a great mindfuck.

Chaos;head, Cross Channel, Remember11, Sekien no Inganock -What a Beautiful People- | He said he wants twists, that can be rough. Muv Luv has a twist...but Alternative isn't out on Steam yet and reading through Extra can be a chore for some.  Higurashi or Umineko for sure.

There's some pretty meh VNs in there. Is this a list of the only 10 VNs you know from that era? There's quite a few I wouldn't recommend there. Echoing what Tyrosyn said about some in particular, Private nurse was boring as batshit, Figures of Happiness was awful, Snow Sakura was subpar and Family Project was uninteresting.

    Figures of Happiness wasnt bad.

But Family Project to me, is definitely Legendary status. Right up there with Kana ~ Little Sister.

come on guys the two that fit this best haven't been mentioned?

Sharin no kuni- exactly what you want, enjoy the ride brother

g senjou no mao- again, just what you want enjoy the ride

I love both of those, but they hardly fit his request.

I recommend Cross Channel ~ Tower of Friendship ~  -  It's one I had trouble getting into the first time, but I gave it another shot later on and could not stop. It's great. Really amazing atmosphere.

As for twists...it is abit popular right now due to the Steam release, but I recommend Muv Luv. It won't grip you at the start unless you're really into the characters(which are good), but the twist that happens. Damn.

As for something that'll grip you and not let go and has a good twist? Saya no Uta is short and sweet...cannot recommend it enough.   Oh man, there's just so many. Alot of people here are already suggesting good ones.

Sekien no Inganock -What a Beautiful People- is also hard to stop playing once you start. It has an otherwordly atmosphere.  There's really just too many to thing of right now. I'll recommend "Swan Song" and let other people keep suggesting.

  4. They are pretty good.

My problem with his stories is they always feel like they should've ended much sooner.  Also, he's the M.Night Shyamalan of VN writers. "What a twist!" seriously. It gets so...so annoying. Every "Chapter" of his usual 8 part stories or so, contain twist after twist, to the point you become numb to what is happening in the story. They also all go from "Realistic, scary" to "EVERYONE IS SUPER POWERFUL"

I dunno, I like his VNs...but I feel he needs to tone down the twists.  Like he's pretentious or something.

this one was a really fucked up vn, really interesting if you can muster all the rape and torture that is going on xD

    https://vndb.org/v18806

That's only in Japanese.  Also the description about some guy wanting a sex slave hardly seems like it's interesting, though I can't say, as I can't read it regardless. :P

Also, Rewrite is key @dfbreezy - I'm looking for good stories.  I've read three of Keys stories. One ~ - which was pretty damn good, I thought. Depressing as hell.  I then read Kanon...which was ok.  THen I tried to read Moon, but couldn't get into it. Then I tried Clannad, did one route and found out it was basically Kanon all over again.  Like almost copy + paste.  Key seems to stick to a very basic set of characters / themes, they don't really line up with what I'm asking for.

  6. I'm looking at Fata Morgana and definitely going to give it a try.  The art reminds me of this free VNM I read, that involved a mansion and this little girl...wish I could remember the name.

I know, I know, Kara no Shojo was too much for me, but I liked Saya no Uta. Just Kara seemed to do it for shock value. Also Euphoria was the one I was thinking of when I thought of the sex dungeon, the story of that one just didn't interest me.

Ones like Saya no Uta / Swan Song are my favorites.

Good review there. And you may already know this, but you could use blue support skill to cancel the pesky healing at hard mode, as long as you checked the skill level of healing skill and the blue skill was sufficiently leveled there ie if enemy using LV 10 Healing Skill then hopefully the blue skill could cancelled any LV 10 Support Skill. Oh, and I think in regard of advantage there's another one (Green attack skill had advantage against white defense skill, because green had penetration skill that could bypass protection skill that white had). I think that's all I could remember now. And if you feel the gameplay was not as refined as Yumina, maybe this is actually the prototype of Yumina itself.

For the story, well maybe Xuse want to kind of copying Muv Luv Takeru in regard of Nozomu there (At the indecisiveness of course). Other than that, I think there's nothing I could elaborate there in regard of the story here (Except Xuse write Ruputna backstory at her unique skill description). I think that's all I could write for now.

Eh? Takeru is an immature, hilarious little funny man. He grows as the story progresses however. Nozumu, at least up into the 15-20 hours I played, stayed the same as Minute 1, despite the incredible circumstances he found himself in.

Yumina's dungeon crawl was pretty boring, I'll admit, and it's combat system  wasn't great, I'd say it's below the Aselia, but above this ones.  I'm surprised you mentioned skills wapping, I needed to do that many times a fight and I'm playing on Normal. Else I'll get wiped, and I'm maxed out level wise for each fight.

  8. Eroge or not is fine.  There is one, that released recently, about some sex dungeon I read about it, I can't recall the name, but I remember not wanting to read that.

It has to have a -good- story, with the elements I mentioned above, one or all of them.  Good characters are important, but are worthless without a good story.

I've read(in the styles I'm mentioning) G-Senjou no Mao, Saya no Uta, Swan Song, Hanachimasru(However it's spelt) Kikokai the Cyber Slayer, tried Kara no Shojo, but that one may have been even a little bit too much for me, though I hope to try it again some day.  Muv Luv series(Alternative counts, I guess), Sekien no Inganock, and trying Sharnoth again now, but it's tough to get into.  I've played Chaos;Head, years and years ago. Umineko / Higurashi as well.  Also read the Rememember11 / Ever17 ones.  Probably some I'm forgetting, but I'm hoping with these, you can get the gist of what I'm asking for.

  9. I'll beat it some day. I think I stopped playing on the Sci-Fi esque world with the robots.  I just got bored of the combat system over the first game and the main character wasn't as interesting as the first games. On the plus side, the girls were cute and kinda interesting.

It sucks that it turned out the way it did, but I really enjoyed the first one...I just found the world, characters, atmosphere and everything better. Combat wasn't bad,  not great, but acceptable. In this one, it's so tedious - they increased the amount of combat by 10x to inflate game length, overall LESS story content.  They also made animations for combat much simpler and less unique dialogue during combat.  Or no unique dialogue in combat at all, actually.

  10. Nothing blurry here for most VNs. I can go boot up YU-NO from the 90's and play it in perfect quality on my 27'', 1440p monitor. not so with the recent Muv Luv release - i'm insure why, all other VNS look great full screen, except the Steam release of ML.

    http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/179468

But say, take F/SN  or Fate / Hollow, both look amazing in fulls screen. almost zero aliasing. Those are 800 x 600 as well.

It is abit frustrating. I feel like VNS shouldn't be drawn below 720p these days anymore, and that's at a minimum. They need to think to the future. 4K CG's, downsized to monitors, not 720p ones, upscaled to 4K, ect.

  11. Been testing this versus a bunch of VNS. It only seems to happen in Liarsoft VNS.  Fate / Stay Night, Tsukihime, Majikoi, Seinarukana all run fine in full screen. Whenever I full screen Liarsoft VNs, all my items on my desktop are "pushed" onto my imaginary secondary screen. Not so with other VNS.

Guess I'll have to play their games Windowed.  I wish I at least could make them bigger Windows. They're so tiny on my screen in windows form, being 800 x 600 afterall.  Setting Text Speed to instant "fixes" this issue...except then text is instant and I find it jarring.  Also transitions kind of stutter.

  12. So, the CG Backrounds ahve been bothering me, as they're upscaled poorly. I have not seen this before.

Even Tsukihime doesn't upscale this badly, though it has few CGs.  F/SN was made in 2004 and upscales without any artifacts like this.  It really bothered me how awful it looked on my monitor.  So I tossed an example in Waifux2, with no refinement - meaning the image could get much better than this with just 5-10 minutes of refining the image, smaller size, overall better quality.

    http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/179468

But I think it's a drastic difference. There is -some- smudging, but overall the image, looks better, much better.  The default images are 1024 x 600 (Displayed in game), stretched to my monitors resolution...looks as you see above. The second result is with Waifux2. A JPEG screenshot is infact the same size with no real noticable quality difference.  Honestly I hope something can be done about this, because the in-engine upscaling is among the worst I've ever seen in a VN. I played YUNO recently and it looked fine in full screen. Nothing nearly as bad as this.  What's wrong with the Engine they use?

    I'm having this issue:

    4cal7Ny.jpg

So I really need to switch my system to full Japanese locale?  I haven't had to do that in yeeaaaaaars thanks to Applocale.

    ***

Seems it was AppLocale, after posting this, I tried out this new program https://github.com/xupefei/Locale-Emulator/releases

"Locale Emulator" and boom. The issue disappeared.

  14. So. I've tried three VN recently. Koihime Musou. Shikkou no Sharnoth, and Gahkthun.  All three display text at their normal speed when in windowed mode.

Upon going to full screen however...the text will slow down and displays kind of jerky / stuttery. It also pushes everything I have open off onto an imaginary screen.

    W7 64-bit

NVIDIA 1080 GTX (Latest Drivers /w Hotfix)

    2500K @ 4.5GHZ

    8GB 1866MHZ RAM

    1TB SSD

I don't know why, two of them likely share the same engine, but the  third one is a different one, and in full screen, text is slow on them all.  Disabling my Receiver, which also disables my sound, seems to fix the problem.  Obviously can't play without sound...so just wondering what could cause this. The weird part is once I go back to windowed, the text remains slow and jerky for like 10-15s before going back to it's normal speed.

I feel like I didn't have this issue in the past with my 670.  It's odd.  It's only with VNs too, games run fine.

  15. A few years back. Dengkei Stryker.  It looked kinda silly and poor overall, but I had nothing else to read so I tried it. Right away it gripped me, by being quite darker than I thought with the intro. Then it went to the kinda comedy / generic story I thought it was going to be.

Then...it just kept going...and going...and new routes unlocked, and new story twists, and this generic looking VN somehow ended up having a very endearing story.
