  1. Its far from being a copy. He mostly used the same pose. In case of real-life drawings artists use poser software all the time.
If we're talking about most of the work, then in this case No Game No Life author's original contribution is clearly bigger. In any way, I don't really care as long as the content is good (not talking about images, they are good, but rather about finished product in general).
But yeah, seeing how he is pretty successful with his work, it was only a matter of time for this topic to pop-up.

  2. Well, the torrent for the game doesn't require installation. So I can't reinstall. It started suddenly I was playing. Sorry it's pretty difficult as I'm typing on my phone.

EDIT: How do I stop using Applocale? And what does CG mean?

EDIT 2: Damn, it's getting worse. After becoming small and proceed, the text goes missing. Proceed more, and it'll crash..

Applocale is an old and evil separate software. If you're not sure whether you use it or not, then you don't use it.

That said, I don't know what else we can do... if you have no other options, you can post your savedata made in a place where this issue occurs, then I'll see if I have it too in that place.

  3. BTW, -SkyLancer-, you say text was OK before. Right now if you start this VN from the beginning, do you also see this small text? If so, try to delete your savedata (make a backup 1st) and see if anything changed.
Other people seem to be having similar issues, so this might be original bug (which is strange how such issue could slip into commercial localization) or fuwa release is crap (in which case I won't be surprised).

Edit: Just installed from the original iso images. Well, it doesn't installs any custom fonts, the font it uses is whatever something built-in or something like Courier New. But in any case I couldn't break the text regardless of what I did...
A wild guess, but in case you use applocale, you should stop doing so.

  4. Check if you have MSGothic/MSMincho fonts, if not - install them. Or better - install East Asian languages support on your XP, if you haven't did this already.
But that's mostly the same as havoc already suggested. There isn't anything else you can do except maybe re-installing it.

  5. Yeah, I use the HF version of AppLocale.

Now that you guys mention it though, I don't really have any qualms with leaving my system locale as Japanese; the yen symbol and Notepad issues are whatevers but it was just something I'd thought I'd mention :P .

Ahaha, yes, I totally forgot! The yen issue! But that's not really locale issue, but rather fonts issue? I don't quite remember the story behind it... But apparently Microsoft considers this to be a feature now :D

  6. There are a few programs that refuse to work properly with Japanese locale, the one I've encountered is the recording software I use called Bandicam. I've also had a few programs show up completely in Japanese because of it, and while most of the time I can sort of figure out what I need to click, it would be much more difficult for someone who doesn't even know the kana.

Given that behind this software is a Korean company, if it doesn't work with Japanese locale, I would say that it was made whatever on purpose or the software is just crappy.

Yeah, some software wrongly checks for locale to select the display language. But most of the time if it does so, means it supports multipe languages and it should be matter of switching it to the language you need, whatever during install or after it. Since this should be a one-time operation, I don't think it hurts much to switch locale to English temporary, install/configure this software and then go back. Though if the installer is something like "installshield", it can even be configured through shortcut/commandline to start in the language you want.

  7. Are there any common programs that even notice the difference in locale other than VNs?

I know one. Default windows notepad. You will have hard time reading for example Russian non-unicode files with it if your locale is English or Japanese, in other words doesn't matches the text language.

But seriously, there are tons of Unicode-aware notepad replacements that allow you to read any codepage on any locale.

Edit: but things are different if your default locale is/was English. Then switching to Japanese will not affect notepad in a way I described, cause Japanese codepage includes English characters too.

  8. Its an old program no longer officially supported for like 10 years if not more. On newer windows OSes you can't even install it without messing with UAC. I wonder why Microsoft still allows to download it at all.
Yes, it does not always work. But whats worse, sometimes it works but causes problems that are hard to identify. Personally I only encountered such issues with text display, but who knows what other issues could be due to applocale.
Don't write a guide about it, don't promote this crap.

Edit: Personally I always use Japanese locale too, for many years. And pretty happy with it.

  9. Clearly, you don´t have a little brother annoying you in your life. You wouldn´t be asking such a thing if it were the case.

I don't have a little anyone, true, but the real reason behind my question was to tell you that there shouldn't be anything wrong and ideally no one should notice any difference. And if there is some problem that someone have, then its something that you will likely be able to fix.

  10. That would be truth if I were the only one to use this computer. It´s indeed mine, but my family insisted in letting my brother use it too. Sometimes things don´t go the way you want it to.

So, having locale always set to Japanese, how this affects your family? What stops working for them or whats the problem?

  11. You´re quite brutal, aren´t you?

By "keeping it this way forever", you mean when I play it?

Forever means all the time, even when you don't play. This is how it is supposed to be if you want to read VNs. As long as you don't use any other non-unicode software, there shouldn't be any problems (and if you do use such software, consider finding better alternative for it).

Of course you can [turn it on - reboot - play - turn it off - reboot] every time, that's up to you. But THIS is the brutal way, IMHO, not the way I proposed ^__^

Also note that some VNs require more than just changing locale, but date and time representation too. Get used to it.

By the way, in theory this issue also may appear because you didn't cracked these VNs properly or because the patches for them are crap (plus I don't think there are completed patches for any of these VNs yet). But seeing that you have the same problem with 3 of them, this have to be locale issue.

  12. 1. never copy-past stuff from iso's, install it properly. Unless you definitely know how things work and what to do. But that's not the case here.
    2. Uninstall everything, manually remove any leftovers (if there are any), set your locale to Japanese before you install anything and keep it this way forever! Don't forget to reboot. Turning it off will give you this message again, obviously. Applocale is shit, don't use it. Especialy if youre on windows newer than XP.

  13. You shouldn't be running VNs on MAC.
If you don't have any PCs around, what you should try is a VirtualBox with 32bit winXP or win7 on it. I can't guarantee that it'll work though. Things that require full direct3d support may fail. Rewrite might be one of them. As a last resort you may try Wine... but that can be tricky to even install. You might even need to compile it yourself first.

  14. I voted for the 1st option but...

I consider that I finished a vn when I saw all the CGs, heard all the music, saw all endings (including hidden ones that may require some effort to encounter them), found and read all the tips (if there are any) etc. Many VNs have their own "completeness meter". In this case it have to be 100%.

However it does not mean that I've read all the text and made all the choices possible. There can be choices that, aside from altering a few text lines, do nothing. Or even choices that are totally pointless. So keeping track of them is just too hard.

  15. Well, Zaka and GetterEmperor are right. Judging from these screenshots the problem is with codecs. Plus this is exactly the place where 1st opening should start. So uininstall all codec packs you might have and install latest stable LAV filters. But...  it can be a bug too. In this case you won't be able to fix it yourself.

Btw, this issue can be due to you using some opening patch. Last time I chekcked another one (not mine) - it was a total crap. I almost vomited from that disgusting distorted low-res wmv. Only "made in moviemaker" note is missing. (Though don't take this as a recommendation for using my version, it probably won't work unless you're ok with reading Japanese unpatched FSN and still requires LAV filters)

  16. Yes, Never7 doesn't work under VirtualBox. It requires you to have real discrete videocard. Virtualbox's poor Direct3D support seem to be not enough. Any official Never7 release also doesn't works correctly on any windows newer than XP, even with real hardware, which also results in black screens. But in this case people usually can make it work.
If the screen is completely black and always like that - you probably have no chances. If it only partially black or at some point you can see some of the main menu graphics, even if for a short time, fiddling with video options and switching fullscreen-windowed may result in something.

If you're on mac you may want to try some other virtual machine that has better direct3d support. (I dunno if such thing exists)

  17. Right.  Seems like I've been able to sort it out now.

Aside from that, I need to know if Alternative has any common issues as well.  Does it require DAEMON too?

What do you mean by "common issues"? So far everything that was discussed in this thread is not an issue, it's "I have no clue what I'm doing and provided instructions is a misleading"

As for Alternative... do you even understand why you need daemon tools and what it does? Obviously any game or program that you download in a form of disc images needs some software to properly deal with them.

Is Daemon tools required? - no, if you're experienced and know possible problems and solutions.

Is this a proper way to do it? - yes

Can I use other software to mount images? Not Daemon tools? - yes

Of course there may be common issues other than that, read the readme to find out.
