Unfortunately a PC just won't do but I know where you are coming from. I abandoned using a laptop or any kind of portable machine other than my phone since 2013 till now and I have a pretty good PC but I started going to university and through the first semester I have realized that I do need a portable machine. If you remember my previous post as well, I decided on a Lenovo Ideapad 720s 14 inch. It can manage games like DOTA 2 because of its GT 150MX GPU and has a pretty good i7-8550U CPU. It's selling point to me though, is the aluminium body, a nice FHD IPS display and the weight which is 3.4 lbs or 1.5 kg. I am concerned about the screen hinge which doesn't seem like its very sturdy but well it's not like I am gonna roll around with it in bed. This is why I had bought a cheap Acer laptop in the first place which was a 2 in 1 and let me tell you I did use it for reading some manga, couldn't for anime because it wasn't full HD and had a horrible screen pretty much. I even ran a VN on it but never played the VN on it instead I used screen mirroring of my TV to play the VN on my TV and used the tab itself as a wireless keyboard. (Just me trying to use it for its original purpose.) Well the 2 in 1 was too heavy for playing VNs in bed and I know how I struggled to read manga due to it's weight. In conclusion my experience with a 2-in-1 was so horrible that I don't have it in me to invest in it again. Well finally like I said, I bought the Lenovo Ideapad 720s 14 inch laptop. Hopefully I'll be able to play VNs in bed by placing the laptop on my lap.

I read all my LNs and manga lying in bed. I wanna do the same for VNs..

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-XPS-9360-Laptop-InfinityEdge/dp/B078Z3HJ1X/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1522181771&sr=1-3&keywords=dell+xps+13 This is the laptop that I am talking about. Well its sold for $1325 in my country and I can get it for the price quoted in that link. Also I am completely open to any laptop suggestions. These are my requirements : 1) My budget is $1000 2) I am fine with both a 13" and 15.6" notebook. (Not so sure anymore) 3) I would like it to have an FHD IPS display and an anti glare coating would be most welcome. 4) It's supposed to be a portable notebook mostly for media consumption and basic coding. 5) The battery life should be decent. At least 6 hours of battery while watching a movie or something. 6) The games that I should be able to play on medium settings should be like DOTA 2 and some japanese Visual novels. 7) I have my PC for all the main tasks. 8 ) I would be fine even if it didn't have an HDD but it should definitely have an SSD for the OS. 9) I plan to buy from amazon or newegg. 10) The laptop should last for 3 to 4 years. 11) Don't need an optical drive but a DVD R/W would be cool. 12) I am fine with mostly any brand but just avoid suggesting Acer laptops because the one I had previously died in 6 months and the customer support was horrible. It was a very cheap one which only cost me 15,000 inr but still that's just bad. 13) I am from India but my cousin is gonna get me one from the US. 14) I am a college student and I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering my first year syllabus requires me to code in C. Since I have a computer at home with an i7-7700k and a gtx 1070, I think my laptop should just act as an assistant to my PC.

As far as I can tell from the discussion so far, unless I play a VN and read the text for myself on a 13 inch laptop I will not know what I want and since i have previously played VNs on my 15 inch laptop it might be the safest bet..to get a 15 inch one but then again dell xps 13 is so perfect other than its mighty small screen
-
I am getting a damn good deal on the Dell XPS 13 but I have never used a 13 inch laptop. I went to the dell store today and I felt that 13 inches is too small. I own a pretty good gaming PC so I only want a laptop for it's portability making the Dell XPS 15 an overkill. So the main point of discussion is that I want to be able to play my VNs on the go but will a 13 inch screen be enough or should I look for a completely different laptop from a different manufacturer with a 15 inch screen? I would be glad if someone who actually uses a 13 inch laptop shares his opinion with me.

Its difficult to get an N1. Since I plan to get an N1 anyway, it just means that i'll be able to read VNs in japanese a little later. Perhaps in 2 years.

The title says it all!
-
Well even I remember thinking that the common route is kind of boring, etc but I didn't feel that it was all that bad. Then again the routes made up for it and made me feel that all that time put into reading it was worth it.

Thanks! I can finally play those 18+ ones that I have been playing for 2 years now anyway! xD

Has this ever happened to you when playing a VN?
VaroOP replied to VaroOP's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Exactly man. This is why I liked Miu's route. No association to real life whatsoever and an enjoyable route. I mostly enjoy anime/manga/VN as a form of entertainment and never associate with/affect my real life. This is was a very rare case and the minute i started associating the route to my real life experience, I probably killed the route for myself. I have taken your advice to my heart. Ya man I am perfectly fine with playing some Nukige. They are even less likely to happen in real life and thats good. Got a problem with this particular route because it first made me think about my real life experience. Then I kept comparing it as the route progressed and when something eroge like thing happened, it wasn't fun anymore.. Yo okarin! (S;G fan) I'll buy some Dr.Pepper for you later ! I just turned 18 today. I usually take it. This was a very rare occurrence for me and that is why I made this thread! You are right but not exactly. Can't spoil for you or anyone else. Play the VN to know it. A 100% agreed. Made a mistake here which I haven't made so far. Well, I think the fault lies with the VN too. I never compare my real life experiences with VNs that I am planning but I happened to do it naturally in this one route. Thanks for the various opinions guys! -
So I am playing DRACU-RIOT! and right now and I am on Rio's route. Has anyone else experienced the same thing ? One scene and bam you are out of it. You can't enjoy it anymore.

All of us appreciate the fact that you guys are translating this huge VN. At least there is hope that there will be a english translated version of Shin Koihime in the future! Also, I am sure that Skrewball didn't say that intending to criticize you. Every other person who wants to play Shin Koihime feels that way because it really is a shame that we can't play it yet. Well, right now I am fine because I have a ton of other VNs to play and in fact no time to play them..
-
Now I am afraid that you may be disappointed because in some routes the reaction isn't as strong. Go for the chick with silver hair for the strongest reaction I guess..
-
Shiny days sounds good. Read Koichoco if you haven't already. The reaction Chisato has is worth it in almost every route.
-
Well its kind of netorare but its not? Basically, a girl steals the protagonist from his girlfriend. Don't know whether such a visual novel exists also. But I got the same kicks from Koichoco because of Chisato. So its fine if one character is completely obsessed with the protagonist but the protagonist starts dating another chick. Also, a VN like Majikoi where Miyao barely has any reaction is no fun. I wouldn't recommend Majikoi.

Is translated Comyu worth reading?
VaroOP replied to Guilty of Seeing Red's topic in Recommendations
I dropped comyu. -
Tbh the story is too weak. It has this shounen pattern and truly it feels just like Clephas described it. A half-assed nukige. The battles just happen and the protag just wins after which he fucks around.. Well that in itself is enjoyable for a perv like me so ya whatever..
-
Guess I'll do just this. Play the original one for now. I will be waiting for SKM but for now I guess the original Koihime is my only option.
-
So far I can totally understand what you are saying. I am expecting a deeper story as I read further though. Should I lower my expectations ? Now I am confused. I already started reading the first one and I have come pretty far as well. Should I just stop playing and turn to the alternative one ? Ok since the alternative one is not translated and it probably won't be till 2019, I'll just play the original one for now I guess..
-
Which koihime am I supposed to read first ? https://vndb.org/v1967 https://vndb.org/v369 Also, what role does the protagonist play in this VN? I can't tell from the synopsis or the tags.
-
Well I picked this tag from another website. Maledom in my mind refers to something like the H-scenes we have in Majikoi. ( except the route where tsubame leads in majikoi s) If you want I can post a link to a certain doujinshi that was tagged with maledom and you can see for yourself thats its not a code word for rape at the very least. PS : I hate rape so I wasn't asking for that. Otherwise I would be straight forward with it.
-
Well guys so I mostly read the VNs that are highly recommended on these forums. For example, Sharin no Kuni, Grisaia, G-senjou no maou, etc. But now I am looking for something which is a mix of a good story and maledom (during H-scenes only is fine too). The best example of this that comes to mind is Majikoi. Yamato is a total bed-yakuza and the plot that the VN follows isnt all that bad. Thank you in advance.

I have played nearly all of WA2 and I can say that its great. I watched the Kimi ga nozomu eien anime but I don't know anything else about it so I'd say go for WA2.
