  1. So I know Wine won't load the opening movie to Ever17, and the common advice online is to just skip it.

Except...there's no way to skip it on my end. I was told to hit the Escape key until it did, but the program won't respond to anything after the Hirameki International logo. Terminal has a freakout spitting the same errors hundreds of times.

Is there any way to configure the game not to load the movies before opening it?

    Image of the error.

  2. As someone who's never read the VNs, I went for the complete release in June. A beta is likely to have bugs, and with the amount of issues I've had with Muv Luv...

You see, it's not that I've ever purposely put off reading Muv Luv. It's that I've wasted countless hours trying to install just the first one. For whatever reason Alternative is easier? (Which I know you can't read without the others, but I've been tempted.) Hopefully Steam will make this process much easier.

Hmmm I've never heard of this. I wonder how long it is.... and more importantly how much they will charge us for it. On a side note, considering what a beating the Michiru route gets in the west, it surprises me the she somehow has a massive following in Japan considering all the spinoff games.

According to VNDB, "Very short ( < 2 hours).

Frontwing (https://www.facebook.com/FrontwingINT/) just announced it's going to be $2.99 ($2.39 for the first week).

I actually laughed out loud at this idea. You have to understand, the Steam guidelines that prevent content are going to be pretty specific. Basically think of it as a straightforward checklist that the game developer fills out to ensure they meet the requirements, rather than the result of a human actually playing the game and making a judgement call (this is impractical for many reasons, not the least of which is that said human might simply not see a large portion of the game). Seeing as "this game does not depict exposed breasts larger than 90 cm" isn't one of those checkboxes, it's not surprising at all to see it get a Steam release.

The ESRB does have a questionnaire like that, but not quite as dramatic.

I used to play around with their auto rating tool before they quietly removed it for exposing too much about their process, and if you have sex scenes in your game the ESRB will get nosy about them. If the dialogue is sexually explicit, how much skin is shown, etc. Showing breasts/buttocks in sex scenes got an M rating unless it was frequent. Gahkthun's scenes were infrequent enough to get the M.

According to this tool, penis/vagina was an automatic AO, no matter what context it was shown in, so I don't know what bribe money Rockstar's got where they've shown peen twice in the GTA series.

This isn't an insinuation to Franc's liberality, it's a quote from MoeNovel itself, said during an interview. And naturally it was said because France has one of the biggest anime fandoms in Europe.
I can't even fathom how this quote can be misinterpreted so wrong, lol.

That's exactly how I interpreted it. I know it was a quote from MoeNovel, and France having a large anime fandom doesn't change the fact that something like an uncensored If My Heart Had Wings could probably be accepted as suitable for 12-year-old French girls by the country's censorship board.

  6. I ended up finishing Shiraki's route in Yume Miru Kusuri last night by staying up until 3:30 in the morning. Totally worth all the BS. Without spoiling much, the last hour or so of reading was top-notch. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10, primarily for its rough start.

  7. I'm playing Yume Miru Kusuri at the moment. It's sort of a mixed bag.

The protagonist is a douche, but the girls are sweet. The eroge is well-written, but gratuitous at times. And why is there no route for the little sister? The protagonist is spending all this time building up relationships with the girls, meanwhile he has like a nukige level of sexual tension with his little sister. And then she just kinda fades out.

  8. What about the Princess Maker games? Not sure if they all count as VNs because they have a fair amount of interactivity, but I've played the second one and it's fun and something a girl her age would like.

4 & 5 are listed on VNDB and the fourth one has an English patch, however they have 15+ ratings so you might want to play through them first.

I'd say no on Steins;Gate because one of the plotlines involves sexual assault, there's some bloody images and profanity as well.

To be honest, OP, this medium simply doesn't skew to kids that young, which is why it's hard for us to help you. When my sister was eight or nine she liked watching me play/read Katawa Shoujo (with the H-scenes turned off) and was eager to know which girl I'd pick/end up with, but she's a bit of an oddball.

  9. My Top 10 Cyclops Pick-Up Lines:

    1. Hey, baby, you're the one eye adore.

    2. Did you spot this sexy man walk in with your little eye? *flexes dramatically*

    3. My eyes burn for your eye.

    4. I've been looking at your eye all night long.

    5. Do you have a map? I seem to have gotten lost in your eye.

    6. I think you have something in your eye. It looks like the reflection of some hunky guy who craves your affection...wait, that's me!

    7. Your eye is a gateway to another world that I want to join.

    8. Making eye contact with you has made my day.

    9. Your eye lights up my world like a thousand suns.

    10. I think God took a brown topaz gem and made your eye out of it.

  10. Paca Plus is a very silly VN she'd probably get a kick out of, no H-scenes or anything ecchi that I remember.

Littlewitch Romanesque has an all-ages version on Steam that looks fairly harmless and suitable for her age. There's no age restriction for it like HuniePop or Sakura Spirit so I presume there are no sexual situations/nudity.

Kira Kira has an all-ages version but I'm not sure if it takes out any of the rough language.

Ever17? It's only a PG in Australia (by comparison, Azumanga friggin' Daioh is MA15+) and T here in the US.
