  1. My question was more wondering why wouldn't a small VN developer wouldn't just stick with Ren'py because of all the facts you presented made the rest look pretty bad honestly. I don't see any real drawbacks to it unless you're fluent in one of the other languages already.

its mostly an experience thing, one developer likes to build it for the C# and is able to fully custom the game (like you saw in the Novelty game) and another could do it due to the lack of knowledge of other engines. VN engines are not popular in the west so people are starting to see them, however the most profit (tyranobuilder, Game Maker, Construct, and more ) will always try to get those users with lies then non-profit engine (renpy, novelty, belle, and more). now why do profit companies do this is really simple, the money. all non-profit engines will always be willing to make it better for you the developer and gamers who want to read a VN.

  2. So for what purpose would any small studio use anything other than Ren'py, with the exception of those who build their own engines?

Honestly this thread is full of opinions more than facts though... ._.

many small studios use engines as their first game, by hiring someone to build an engine it could take over 2 years and $9,000 to get that code. thats also not the worst part, since its a new engine, the one who build it might never explain how it works to other developers. this kind of stuff happens even to AAA games, examples include mabinogi, onverse, blender game engine, Quake engine, and so on.

nope its real facts, i tested many of them (not kirikiri since its unreadable and its exactly the same like Novelty). so here how its done to prove that i have tested them:

renpy: i made my games on it and tested on android, http://firecat.itch.io/serious-to-the-end

tyranobuilder: it had a trial test (the removed it when it launched on steam) and the games can be tested here: https://itch.io/jam/tyranojam15

Novelty: tested and played this game, it wasnt defferent from renpy its just that it has yet to build other OS: http://visual-novelty.deviantart.com/art/Secret-Journal-Guardian-538656289

Belle: i'm still working on my game for it, in the meantime compare the two engines (Tyranobuilder http://baka-kun.itch.io/butterfly-effect-vn vs Belle http://fr33mind.github.io/Belle/demo.html )

Unity plugin: Fungus - i really did try to follow this official video guide and yes i try to find a game but couldent find any, https://youtu.be/u5fhU7xAz2o?list=PLiMlyObJfJmUohJ_M2pJhtrNKuNECo2Uk

Cloudnovel: tested and played this game - http://cloudnovel.net/play?n=bc5599a0c9b

as you can see, i did everything that should be done to make the facts as simple as possible.

Hey firecat, if you'd like you can watch the stream I did where I had viewers watching me for the full 3 hours straight.

its popular in twitch, a artist i follow got 213 views alone from drawing anime.

I will translate this into spanish because I think you didnt understand what he told you

worst spanish TL ever of all time :conspiracy: its not even following spain or brazil version of spanish language. also he could be faking it, after all he never said there was a video where he did it.

  4. How does a thread about a photo edit turn into this?

    And yes, that was rhetorical.

everyone is in love with orginalren laziness, you could stay they would jump off a bridge for him. teens in america are getting worst and worst while everyone else outside the usa are having real world problems. serious guys ganging up on me won't work ever.

Nah, people explained the misconceptions you had already, you're just being stupid at this point. But sure, blame the muricans, everyone here is from the USA after all, everyone here lives a perfect life in a perfect country with no problems whatsoever. :wafuu:

the perfect country where you dont have the right to vote, your ideas to congress is meaningless, a president who might deport illegal immigrants, and news outlates only reporting about americans not the world? nope never joining that place.

    https://youtu.be/Zd5rul6EdF0?list=PLuKg-WhduhkksJoqkj9aJEnN7v0mx8yxC

(I have no idea why this one only works)

also no its not misconceptions, no one here knows how originalrin did the work. we do know for a fact that it shouldn't take 3 hours to change color of something and adding text. its still unoriginal and uncreative, its an insult to many artist who have put hard work in making characters, background and more.

  6. well the whole point is that she stole from someone else who took from Kantoku and just added text.

Let's play a kid's game: Spot the differences.

Okay here I go 1. the eyes, 2. the pencils are in the fuwa shade... 3. the shoes is the fuwa orange/brown(idk) and the lint is also changed in the same color 5. fuwa appaired on the lint 6.the text changed

@Firecat it's kind of hard to change the colors of object because pen-tooling is a fucking pain in the ass......

no not really, not my fault you didnt finish art collage:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVfoMaUk7K8

its easy if you know how things work, even i can do it and i dont even use photoshop.

  7. well the whole point is that she stole from someone else who took from Kantoku and just added text. also stop this the whole english is perfect thing, english is the most hated language that everyone has in many foreign schools (you crazy americans are forcing it on to us by paying our government). just adding a bunch of text and calling it creativity is unforgivable to many who had put effort into making it 100% original in 2D and 3D.

@Nosebleed  i cant read it or access it

  8. Firecat is so blind that he didn't even notice any other changes than the text

there ->are<- no other change, the original picture looks like this (in glorious HD):

and guess what i found one that looks 100% the same from another person on ten days before we seen it, November 8th, 2015 1:21 PM, by: Amlerisa. http://e-shuushuu.net/image/782880/

so yes its Plagiarism because originalren stole it.

  9. You people disgust me. How can you call yourselves true otaku when you don't even realize the deep feelings HKNMY has. True otaku understand that 18+ developers are just perverts seeking money. As a YouTube video creator myself, I have done extensive research as to why this game is far superior. Don't be caught in the web of lies:

you can't be called a true Otaku if you don't value people's hard work and understanding. the way you used youtube as a scapegoat clearly tell us that you don't even realize what true anime is about.

you going to have to watch all the episodes of "He is an ultimate teacher" to understand true Otaku, ya i bet you dont even follow the new animes because one ended not too far back and seems to be ready for another season. why another season, thats because the manga is not finnish, there still a lot to fill in.

  10.

linking an illegal stream of a random episode of a random comedy show it probably the worst you could pick. If you want to put it back find something else, and something legal.

its consider an educational tv show, links to what he says can be easily found in google or on the tv (the text that pops up) and there are experts discussing about the topic. the show pretty much covers for itself very well, the only bad news is that few people know that show (its a good show QQ ).

  11.  again you have no proof, you dont even have a steam developer account (as far as we know from you). these crazy rumors from just random reports posting only 7 sentence or less are nothing. i keep telling everyone, you wont ever find someone willing to give up their rights to sell on steam just to reveal what the real numbers are, thats not ever going to happen. one thing we do know is that steam is making a lot of money, people are buying games from steam and other sites, no one cares about developers, no one cares about anything in gaming.

every gamer wants something from the golden game of retro gaming, ya you guys dont understand since you are not experts in human minds or anything like that but its the truth.

Methods for arriving at "truth" include empirical observation, deduction, and inference.  These are the basis of scientific and philosophical investigation.

A limited number of empirical observations suggest Valve takes a 30% cut.  We can infer from the lack of disagreement that this 30% rate is prevalent, if not universal.  That Valve would select a rate "randomly" for each developer using a method akin to a random number generator is simply absurd.  We don't need empirical confirmation to deduce that this is inconsistent with good business practices, and therefore infer that it is incorrect.

Furthermore, the Steam marketplace was established specifically to allow developers to self-publish and sell directly to consumers, addressing longstanding developer complaints about publishers and retailers taking the lion's share of profits.  Steam is well-liked and supported by developers, which is part of the reason for its success.  Your criticism of the platform frankly seems unfounded.  I've never heard a developer complain that Steam took an unfair share of their profits.  They do however complain about publishers like EA and resellers like GameStop.

there you go makin another rumor, you have no links, no picture, no interview, nothing (funny thing is that your post is 7 sentence). you also mistaken that you thought i was talking about developers in steam, i never did so you trying to make another rumor within a rumor. seriously someone who has been in the internet since 2002 should really seen how much of a rumor you yourself have posted (or that could be a lie, not really my problem). trolls like you is what makes the internet bad, just stop making crazy storys about how you had some crazy experience all because you had learn these things. well big news your mind is wrong, its filled with false information that your brain wants to fill, its never real until someone shows physical proof.

  12. People are free to negotiate with Steam (I suppose) as to what cut they're willing to give, but smaller companies will have less power to do so and the default cut seems to be 30%. I think Firecat got 70% by misreading a quote from Phil Fish when he was encouraging people to buy through Humble Bundle - "we get 95% of revenues as opposed to steam/gog's 70%".

no its random, this is what happen when i try to do something beyond my normal self posting. people will never be able to see the real numbers and people are too supported of lies to see the real answers. the whole topic itself will never end because there is no answer to the question, people will believe in the lies not the truth so go ahead jump into the web of lies.

    Here's the definition of "random":

    ran·dom
    ˈrandəm/
    adjective
    adjective: random
    1. 1.
made, done, happening, or chosen without method or conscious decision.
"a random sample of 100 households"
      antonyms:systematic
      • STATISTICS
governed by or involving equal chances for each item.

I assure you Valve's method for determining its cut of Steam sales is not "random", as in determined by a random number generator.

again you have no proof, you dont even have a steam developer account (as far as we know from you). these crazy rumors from just random reports posting only 7 sentence or less are nothing. i keep telling everyone, you wont ever find someone willing to give up their rights to sell on steam just to reveal what the real numbers are, thats not ever going to happen. one thing we do know is that steam is making a lot of money, people are buying games from steam and other sites, no one cares about developers, no one cares about anything in gaming.

  14.

It's not "random." Every single time I've seen a developer disclose their revenue numbers, big or indie, it has ALWAYS been 30%. So says Phil Fish, and so says court documents from a THQ vs Sega case, which covers two VERY different kinds of games. I have seen a variety of other sources that all say 30%. I have never seen another number, let alone a number as colossal as 70%. And Sekai Project has not released a single "high value" game thus far, their sales are pretty low in the grand scheme of things. What's your source on this?

you cant talk about how much of a deal you got, everyone in steam is legally bind to a contract. THQ vs Sega case found 0 answers, just some reporters guessing at 30%, no real link or anything. the math is wrong, something so basic can be done to look at the real answer:

    20,755 sold pre-order game x $45 of price = $933,975

    my homework

    geeetttttttttttttt dunk on

also i'm not doing the percentage, do your own homework.

  15. guys you only thinking about steam, you dont understand that many developers are not willing to give up their full name, address, (whatever a SSC is called in japan), credit card, and lose 70% of profit to steam app. if anything they would switch to itch.io or amazon since none of them require extreme requirements just the bank info, something that should only be between developer and campanys.

many people in japan are not really going to steam anytime soon, as long as steam has those extreme requirements you guys are not getting them in steam.

Steam's cut is only 30%, not 70%. And that's honestly a lot more generous than most other means of game distribution.

no its random for indie but few have told that its 70% cut if you are a company with high value game (what SP has been doing all this time).

  16. guys you only thinking about steam, you dont understand that many developers are not willing to give up their full name, address, (whatever a SSC is called in japan), credit card, and lose 70% of profit to steam app. if anything they would switch to itch.io or amazon since none of them require extreme requirements just the bank info, something that should only be between developer and campanys.

  17. just think about mass effect, it has the same vn elements but many didnt consider it a vn but many others did.

So exactly who is this person(s?) that consider Mass Effect a visual novel? Because it's not a visual novel, there aren't really any visual novel elements, there is some dialog and choices which is common in both RPGs and visual novel, but even they are perhaps even more RPG elemts than visual novel elements.

Company Release Dates: have you try developing a game, NO. there has to be a good reason why they don't release them, after all you dont want a broken game like assassin's creed or batman games.

Now I'm no developer, but these are already developed games and while I'm sure there's a very real possibility to break the game when translating I am fairly certain that this is not anywhere near the top on the list when considering localizations.

yep but its not RPG as well, it doesnt have the magic or random enemy spawn types, the game fits into the FPS. thats not the problem, people are refusing to accept all the stuff the developer mixed into, so in reality its really called a Visual Novel, action role-playing, third person shooter video game series. we just haven't got a name for these kinds of hybrid games. the future of games could be many things, just making it one thing is like buying water with another water.

these guys tell you why there's no set date, we just dont know when its finish. they could make a new engine, the art is taking forever, bugs, oh knows.
