  1. I wouldn't call it particularly "fun". Like, 80% of it is about protag and his team being ripped apart in various extremely cruel ways. Also, doubt there will be any appends, it feels like complete (and already way too long for its own good). Maybe there will be FD with more SoL stuff (like actual school trip).

  2. Dunno, I didn't find it overall that hard. Also regarding history, pretty much everything you need is explained in the game itself, and overall info about Meiji is common knowledge.

I'm still at Akira-Seiji route (ch10) tho, so I guess I didn't see worst of Dan yet.

Overall writing is hard, but you get used to it after several chapters. Speaking of which, I love how Masada adds separate meanings to words with furigana. More writers should use this.

  3. 「うわぁぁぁぁぁぁぁぁぁ~、すごい。[r]

     まるで宮殿みたいだぁ」

    @name chara="Masao"

    「 Uwaaaaaaaaaa~,Amazing.[r]

It looks just like a castle.」

宮殿 is definitely "palace" rather than castle. It is used for residence of royalty, not as fortification type.

  4. If you still need editors, let me know.

Also, I noticed you don't have any Quality Checkers listed. I could do that too :P

First post in this thread is obsolete and doesn't reflect current team composition, and we don't plan to provide any updates at least till first partial patch is released.

As for editors and QC, yes, we will need more a bit later, I'll contact you at that time.

  5. i do feel a lack of h-scenes in kamidori since i like high sexual content the most, but the gameplay, story and Servalwis personality are good enough to distract me from the lack of h-scenes.

for now its a 7.5/10 VN, but will see what happens when i finish it. (i dont rlly wana go for a 2nd playthought though except if ill decide to make a walkthoguh on fuwa for it, will see)

You should do at least second, there's tons of NG+ content including new characters with own h-scenes.

Eushully games are always designed to be played 3-5 times at least.

  6. If you want them cheap, you have to preorder, and its hard to recommend something in particular because all stuff I already have is sold out at cheap stores.

Just look through http://slist.amiami.com/top/search/list2?s_cate2=459&s_preorderitem=1&pagemax=20 and see if anything catches your attention. 100 JPY = 1 USD for fast conversion.

The most expensive figure I have is probably under $70, and most are cheaper than that.

Yeah, most expensive I got is http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?scode=FIG-DOL-5579 and its already BJD doll rather than figurine. BJD dolls can cost much more (up to thousands of USD), but figurines I buy are usually around 3000-5000JPY

  7. Btw, it just occurred to me, that its possible to get quite good numbers on MG sales by tracking order IDs.

    For example, on my account,

    2013-06-15 #002048

    2013-11-01 #005650

    2013-12-21 #007212

Would be great if other people who bought stuff from them (esp. those, who have hard-copies section orders) would share order# and date. I bet with enough of such pairs it would be possible to even estimate individual title sales.

This probably deserves own thread, but at same time kinda rude to pry into their business like that.

  8. But at the same time MangaGamer focuses a lot more on the H-content so it's not like we'll suddenly get Little Busters localized or some big scale VN.

Its not like MG don't want big titles themself. They tried talking with Visual Arts (Little Buster's copyright holders), and were turned down, for example. Having enough money, and more importantly, being able to demonstrate demand for such games, would significantly help persuading jap devs to consider localizations.
  9. Moege are VNs that exist only to provide fanservice, archetypical heroines (like tsundere, Kud-style lolis, and osananajimi), and general cuteness/soft and gooey emotional drama (though not to the extent Key lays it on, usually).

Yeah, but thats why they are good for learning language, you get solid foundation of all common tropes, and story doesn't detract you from studying. Its quite hard to diligently process each sentence in fight/sex/drama scenes.
  10. ^ After I'm done with TLC, I may consider TL-ing Sweet Love (only if it's short), but not the whole FD.

Sweet Love has nothing to do with FD, its append to original game and contains short afterstories for original routes.

Also, there's a huge gap between "I can read and understand a VN" and "I can translate a VN". Understanding Japanese is one thing, but being able to (relatively) faithfully write the same text in English is on a completely different level.

Very true, especially for those of us who aren't native English speakers. Quite often I know how to properly translate something in Russian, but formulating same thing in English is troublesome.
  11. I though that the the translators of Kono Oozora restoration patch would translate Kono Oozora fandisc but I guess this is an no...

Cannot speak for everyone, but personally I just didn't like KonoSora. Some routes in FD are worth reading (Ageha's sister, Kanako), but I have much more important and fun project going already (Ikusa Megami Zero), which is light-years ahead in terms of story.

Plus KonoSora project itself isn't over yet, there's Sweet Love remaining to tl.

or Rusanon to say that there's no other "sensible option" for the serious fan other than to learn Japanese (implication:  everyone learns it in a few months).

No, implication here is that you will never be able to read some of best VNs otherwise and will be doomed to never see what some other brilliant VN authors writing is like, suffering through random someone's "reinterpretation".

Not everyone learns japanese, but serious VN fans do.

As for "in few months" vs "3 years and still can't read VN". As I said, "learning to read VNs" is different from learning language. My approach, which was quite successful for me, was to extract text from 30 VNs, and then build frequency dictionaries based on these texts. I was learning only vocab used in VNs and in order of popularity. On average, I am doing 20 new cards (10 new words, since I use 2 cards per note) per day in anki, thats 1800 words in 6 months.

Natural languages have interesting property that while vocab is quite big, only very small fraction of words are used often. For example, KonoSora uses 14943 words, but 1800 words you could learn in 6 months constitute 75% of text. FD is much easier, since there's not so much aviation terminology.

For very simple games like Hanahira, even 1000 words is about 80% of text.

Edit: corrected numbers, used wrong file first time which also contained n-grams.

Also, just executed little experiment. If you select 1800 random words instead most frequent ones, you get only 8%+-1.5% (I've did 100 runs) of text covered with them. So learning vocab w/out focus on VNs (and better particular VN you want to read) is pretty much useless in short term, you will see results only in 2-3 years (about 60% at 3 years of random study, still worse than 6 months of focused study).

  12. Yeah, some people do it very wrong way, like grinding RTK or some other useless "kanji cards" or taking school on "learning japanese" rather than "learning to read VNs".

I know its possible because I started learning JP (focusing specifically on VNs) in the beginning of the year myself, and I could read simple VNs in ~3 months already.

Manga language is very trivial btw, and most manga even has furigana for each damn kanji.

  13. Think about this...you can't just up and tell someone to start learning something that it could take years of their life to finish... (how long did it take you to learn how to do your reverse engineering work?)

To read KonoSora-grade japanese, you don't need years, you can learn enough vocab and grammar in about 6 months studying for hour every day.

Considering the fact that most of VNs (including best ones) will never be translated, its pretty much only sensible option available to anyone who is passionate about medium.

  14. I don't know if I find it sad or funny, that everyone is concentrating on such an insignificant and easily fixable issue as dumb censorship, but only a few comments mention the main problem - horrible, inaccurate translation that barely resembles English language. Censored or not, their future releases will be completely worthless anyway if they won't seriously fix their TL quality.

Maybe those of you guys who have FB should go there and point out what is the REAL issue here? Otherwise those MN retards will only keep babbling about this censorship BS. Well, unless you are fine with shit TL, that is... >_>

Noone except small core VN fans care about tl quality (and even then, most of these core readers read stuff in JP so they aren't intended audience). Just look at all these utterly retarded official translations of JRPGs — people are quite happy with them and keep buying this shit, so there's no real commercial reason to invest into tl quality.
  15. I dropped it once because of the gameplay. Couldn't get myself into the story because I had to wander in some hell of a maze with random weak monster attacking every 5 seconds. What are your thoughts on it?

I use walkthrough for mazes, http://eushully-ikusazero.wikidb.info/迷宮探索/, its quite easy to navigate them with this wiki. I like non-ikusa eushully's gameplay more, but this one isn't that bad as well. Mazes with monster encounters are common in JRPGs, Ar Tonelico and Atelier games have very similar feeling for example (combat itself is very different there tho).

So far only really annoying thing I've encountered is that

I wasted alot of time leveling skills for some characters and they died few chapters later. Out of starting batch, only Celica and fairy survives.

Also, you can call enemies whenever you need via right-click menu, so grinding isn't problem.

  16. Decided to finish Ikusa Megami Zero myself, so I could help with translation.

    Currently at 4th chapter.

From chapter 2 onward, its totally different from what I've expected based on other Eushully games I've played. But I understand now why Clephas loves this game so much, quite well-executed dark fantasy story.

But I hope it gets at least a bit less dark in following chapters, I'm not fan of utsuges.
