Lexyvil
Have any of you heard of or play/played Dwarf Fortress? For any of you who don't know, it's a game that's almost 10 years old and it's also one of the games that inspired Markus (Notch) to make Minecraft. It's a free indie game that's being updated almost yearly (every update offers a lot). There are two types of game modes: Fortress Mode and Adventure Mode. Fortress mode is a simulation game whereas Adventure lives up to a single hero you take control of in a randomly generated world. You can say that it's one of my favourite games of all time and that's probably for the game's details, realistic physics and its random world generator. The graphics aren't its strong point (ASCII Characters), but the gameplay makes up for it tenfold.

Zodai
It is terrifying. I have tried to enter its depths, but I still have not managed to crack it. Mr Poltroon
LinovaA
Dwarf Fortress is actually one of my favorite games of all time~ Checking for updates on the main site has been ingrained into my morning routine for over 3 years now. I like seeing where development is at. I try to reference DF where it is relevant. Hence my response. Everyone must learn the joys of weaponizing EVERYTHING everyday Dwarf Fortress. Lexyvil
It's just sad that about half of the people who get introduced to it get turned down by the graphics ' ^ ' I swear that we forget how the display is from the over-the-top awesome gameplay > < and in my honest opinion, the ASCII graphics are beautiful~

There's actually an old Extra Credits video that covers the idea quite well, so instead of a paragraph-long discussion I'll just link them. Fiddle
I haven't actually played it, but I've heard that there's mods with which to change the graphics, if those put anybody off so much. Information for it can probably be found here: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/v0.34:Graphics_set_repository
