  1. Yeah, I think those epic scaled fantasy novels would make fine VNs. The Hunger Games would be interesting. Perhaps there could even be some gameplay elements in there, too. Or Harry Potter so you can date the different Hogwart girls, hohoho B).

For older and shorter works like Daddy Long Legs (one of my favorites), a kinetic novel would work quite nicely :D.

  2. I just started playing Kira Kira, which I picked up at a recent anime convention. But man, finding time to play these days has been tough :P! I've also finished Go Go Nippon recently. For what it is, I was entertained! I've always enjoyed the tourist type of stuff, though.

  3. Haha, yes, they should all end like School Days .

But really, for me, I absolutely prefer an ending where the guy chooses one of the girls. I prefer my characters making decisive choices. Sure, it'll lead to disappointment if the girl you root for fails, but that's reality, too.

Hello~ Just wanted to let everyone know that Unhack episode 4 is coming out soon. It's already prepared to go, in fact. I'm waiting for a new track from the composer. Meanwhile, I will (and have already begun) developing episode 5. Depending on how things play out, it could be a simultaneous release.

I also have a request. If you guys have been enjoying the episodes thus far, it'd be great if you could spread the word and show the game to anyone else who might be interested.

Unhack (or just InvertMouse in general) has a Facebook page here: http://tinyurl.com/d2bynt8

If you decide it's worth your while, please feel free to drop a like m(_ _)m.

Last, it would appear that Weedy has her own Twitter account now. It is @WeedyUnhack. No bot tweets there. Each one is hand typed by the official AI of Smash Security.

Thank you for your support as always~ Much appreciated :).

  5. Episode 2 keeps it up too. I agree with you, and I'll go so far as to say if it continues, it could very well be in my top 5 favorites.

Yeah, I agree. It's been a long time since I've seen something so fine!

Unfortunately, I've never seen the original Railgun so I'm going to miss out on that one~

  6. I watched the first episode of Shingeki no Kyojin last night. It's damn fantastic! One of the best episode ones I've seen in a long time. Easy to understand. Realistic (extremely so) characters. High drawing quality. Stylish. The best show this season for me so far without a doubt :D.

  7. Thank you Tay! Much appreciated.

    Zakamutt, thanks for the link!

Supah Kawaii Weeaboo, thanks for sharing all of those resources! I'll check them all out for sure.

Thanks for the reply Harry! I do ultimately want to sell my game on the app store. It'll be a learning lesson for sure. I agree with your last point. Honestly, I have a day job I'm very happy with, so I have no illusions about turning this into a career or anything. Making art has to come first. Of course, in reality, there's always a balance between the two things. Thank you again! If you ever feel up for checking out my game, I'd really appreciate that, too.

    Thanks everyone :D.

  8. Ok so this happened to me last night:

I was playing the game Paranoiac with my best friend last night on skype. We managed to clear most of the game but at some point at the ending our mics starting acting up. We ended up closing the call and trying again but when we tried to talk all we could hear from each other were broken sentences and static-y bleep bloop sounds. After many attempts of re-calling, we decided to just screen share and keep the mics muted on both sides. However, even though both mics were muted we could both hear the sounds of broken voices and static from the call.

IDK it freaked us both out. We didn't manage to even clear the good ending because the game system managed to shut down //sobs

It was a fun game though.

    Not bad (((((((((^-^)))))))))))!

  9. Thanks for the replies people. You've all raised some good points.

Well, I grew up watching Candy Candy, Minky Momo, etc, and I have to say I think those looked better than Aku No Hana. You're my friend Ryoji B)!

The point about the manga and anime styles completing each other is interesting. Overall, I'm unable to watch this further because of the story. I do have to admit though that appearance does matter. That's just how it is. The story would have had to be amazing for me to continue. That's cool, though. Everyone's different :).

  10. This is a rip off of the PlayStation Users thread by Tay . We have a pretty tight group here on the forums. I just wanted to see if people might be up for exchanging social media information :D. For me, I'm mostly on Twitter. Here is my social media information B):

    Twitter: @InvertMouse

    Tumblr: http://invertmouse.tumblr.com/

    Facebook page: http://tinyurl.com/d2bynt8

I mostly follow back on Twitter if I see the other person is into anime, etc B). If I fail to, feel free to let me know you're from Fuwanovel and I'll hop on.

    Thanks :)!

  11. Hey Tay, before anything else, thank you heaps for showing the game to two of your friends! You're doing me a massive favor and I really appreciate it m(_ _)m.

For the social media idea, I actually have implemented something of the sort on the game's site. I do recall having the same thing on the episode list page, but for a reason I fail to remember, I chose to remove it. Now that you mention it, I might put that back in. Thanks for the reminder :).

Originally, each level was going to have time tracking. However, because there is dialogue throughout the levels, I chose to ditch it. A clock and reading would work against each other. I might do a time attack mode at some point, but objectively speaking, I doubt that many players would be interested.

Yeah, I'm mostly just on Twitter as well, so I need to learn my way around the other social media. Haha, how did your friends compete over Unhack ? Please pass on my thanks to them as well :).

  12. Thanks for the reply everyone~ Aaeru raised many good ideas that I'll definitely try and act upon. Tay, thanks for spreading the word! Yeah, I should ask for things like that. And yes, indeed, the internet has a lot of trolls, big surprise. I have submitted games before where all people respond with are, "This doesn't work.", "Why isn't that there", etc. Critical, but no human factor whatsoever. Thanks for your reply too Zakamutt :).

  13. Hey Zakamutt. Thanks for checking out my game. Yeah, the game completely fails to run on, for example, my netbook. Then again, my netbook can't even run VLC player. I have considered allowing keyboard controls, but because this is ultimately going to become an iPad app, for now, I'm holding that off. The Javascript thing, yeah, the game is built in Javascript. Thanks for raising that, though. Let me see what I can do. Cool, let me see what I can do about the volume slider. It's not high in my priority list, though. My aim is to finish all 10 episodes first. There are some great feedback given here that I will act on further down the line.

  14. Just wondering if the good folks here could share some knowledge on how to market a visual novel B). It's all good if you have no actual experience. This is just a brainstorm session :D.

I'll be honest and say I created his post largely for my own benefit~ Many of you know I'm developing a visual novel type game at the moment. I hope to put this on the app store at some point and just wanted to hear some insights. On Steam, there's a visual novel named Analogue: A Hate Story. I do wonder how a game that niche made it onto something like Steam. Of course, then there are games like 999 on the DS. That game contains puzzle elements so it's less visual novel heavy. Perhaps that made the game more acceptable in the west. Another arguable example might be the Phoenix Wright series, I guess.

If there are any other visual novels that worked out in the west, I'd love to hear their success stories. I know many people here are visual novel veterans so I wanted to ask for some advice.

That said, I'm about to present my game to a small group of around 30 people. Wish me luck ((((((((^-^)))))))))!

    Thank you B).

  15. If you like VNs that include some good gameplay aspects, I really enjoyed my play through of Eien no Aselia....I felt like that one picked up a lot as the game went on. I really enjoyed the latter part of the game, and the strategy behind the combat was just challenging enough to hold my interest.

I think another one with fun gameplay was Utawarerumono. Always forget that one for some reason. It was a fine game :).

  16. Yeah, Vividred's plot is really stock but the high quality animation and the energy it gives off made it a pretty nice series to watch. Reminds me of Sky Girls somehow :P.

GJ Bu was a great show to watch on a Friday night. I'm going to miss my Shion (TUT).

  17. I've been enjoying this season's anime throughout the past few days! Here are my initial impressions:

Aku no Hana: Like Ryoji said, the bleh story is the main issue. I have to admit though, I grew up watching Minky Momo, Creamy Mami, Candy Candy, etc, and I was unable to stand Aku no Hana's drawings . Dropped~

Karneval: I felt like I got thrown into episode seven or something. Had no idea what was going on. Might've gotten better but I dropped it just because of time constraints.

Hyakka (that samurai girls show): Admittedly, I assumed this would be rubbish but it turned out to be pretty funny! I'll watch this for a bit longer.

Photokano: Watching this show kind of makes me feel like a perv :P~ They try to say it's art which somehow seems to make it worse for me. It's not a bad show, though.

Date a Live: Seems okay so far. Maybe a little bit stock but the girls are cute so count me in for now B).

Hataraku Maou-sama: This show was too funny! The comedic pacing is perfect. Made me laugh out loud a few times. Count me in!

Devil Survivor 2: Unique premise, realistic characters (though slightly unclear personalities for the time being); one of the better shows this season. I'll watch on for sure. The first episode is better than Persona 4's in my opinion.

Will watch a few more tonight :D.
