  1. Personally I wish I could just have a donate button for the studios I like, Key, Liar, Age, etc. Not to the publishers to the creators! I'll continue to download Vn's as normally from pirate sites and all is just jolly good.

Saves us from the, paying etc companies and just a small amount goes to the creators, wait years for releases by stalling companies. Censoring, need to be careful with releaes in the west the list goes on and on.. I just want to play the game and support the creator if the game is good.

  2. Looking forwards to Dishonored for quite som time now. It's made by mostly the makers of Dark messiah: might and magic (friggin amazing game) and with the art director from half life. It does really look promising. Hopefully it will have amazing combat and creative choices for fighting, etc. Steampunk style also looks very well done, hehe I cant wait.

I haven't even heard of X-COM truth be told.... Not so much fan of Turn based games.

  3. I just completed Planetarian, made me cry dammit. Why Key make so sad but epic games :( Very good VN, a bit short but nothing else to complain about.

Completed sharnoth, a few days ago. Ending was such as all Liar titles it seems, have a kind of odd ending because they put so much stuff into them. But not the less, still a very good VN as always. They could have spared me with the tentacles though, lol.

What next, hmmm. I think I'll read muv-luv as I have pushed that off for quite some time now. Hopefully I'll read it though in a month, by then I should be done with RTK 1 and Tae Kim's grammer guide. Then I'll "try" reading untranslated works.

  4. Play all the routes except Kyou/Ryou route because it wasn't written by Jun Maeda (and stands out like a sore thumb)

:s I liked Kyou the most, but I guess it's because she is tsundere. That being said Clannad was my third VN, I didn't know much about the stereo types at that time.

Her BGM is pretty epic too. (if not the most epic one)

The VN is pretty good, deep characters not so interesting story. Lots of uninteresting barter imo. So I put the auto reading to 0.3 sec something, atleast very fast through around the last 3/4 part of main game (not afterstory). Cried inside after afterstory of course.

If you watch the anime and didn't like it I doubt you will enjoy the VN, it's kind of the same but 9000x more of, with more dept and feeling.

  5. Okey, my list is of epic animes. I highly reccommend them, that being said. Many of them start of slow^^ Haven't you watched many of these, you haven't watched much (good) anime.

  6. Public domain is what it is, Aaeru is correct in how it is.

People can be nice and they can also be an ass, though one thing I would recommend to anyone doing selflessness for someone else. Dont expect something in return, because the likelyhood of you getting it is very low. Most long term translators seem to be like this, they don't do it for anyone else.

I would note it's different if its personal to the receiver, if I gave you a gift in person you would likely say: "thank you". Random dude on the interweb, doing something for someone else.. Not likely. It is just how human relations are. But people are likely to be greatful in their own way, even if they don't communicate it. Because we don't feel a need to communicate it, because I don't know you and I have no relations with you. Therefore I don't need to say my thanks to you.

Well for those who didn't read my confusing post: Humans are just apes in the end.

  7. Okay guys, so I need some knowledge. I downloaded the light novels 1-9 + side stories from the link you posted, and as I'm looking through them I'm noticing

    a) They're in English!

    b ) They're long!

    c) They're all signed by Kawahara

Now... these were ORIGINALLY Japanese, right? Are these English translations? Didn't the translators put in some sort of signature?

Also, are these legit, or are they fanfiction?

Sorry for the Qs, but I've never seen a light novel before : )

AFIK they are fan translations by the people at Baka tsuki a rather big site for novels.

Well long is relative :P They have much space in the lines and its easily read. Guess all 'light' novels are like that..

The verison I downloaded weren't signed.

  8. I download the anime from Nyaa *_*, I can't read japanese so I use subs from [Horriblesubs] 720p video. They seem to always have good quality. blackbird you can watch the raw's...... Damn you...Envious...

I downloaded the novel from baka tsuki lots of formats there, i chose PDF from some dude named BeginnerXP. I use just Adobe reader works well enough.

Kokoro Connect, got to try that after SAO. Though To Aru Majutsu no Index, Suzumiya Haruhi Series and maybe Infinite Stratos seems interesting, should I read them too? I found the anime good of those, are the good too? I don't want to be thrown off by just one series of Light novels. :(

  9. Not sure if it counts as upcoming or current, but I'm really loving Sword Art Online. It's the first time in years I've had to wait for a show to air serially... agonizing!

I really liked that anime too, I haven't watched any animes in quite som time but I tried SAO and I found it above average, later great. The theme, environment really made it for me, it been put really such great thought in it.

So I wondered how it would go after the 11 anime episode, :P People said manga was bad, true imo I looked. Light novel was better than anime they said, I never bothered to try light novels out (Had kinda a bias agianst them, funny I know~). But this anime sparred me to try them, I loved it! Suprisingly better than the great anime, I would have never guessed I would like them so much. Been reading a book in the series each day now lately.

    I reccommend them! :D

  10. as i saw, many VN here have the translation built-in with the game. I have to download the entire game to play the english version.

in some circumstances, i got the original VN in japanese first. what i need is a patch that translate my game into english.

so is there patch available here to do this? no matter the patch is .exe file or the patch simply needs to be pasted under the game foilder.

well, whatever works for the translating group is the best xD

All the games here are translated.... If it's not pre-installed with english patch there whould be one with it.

But if you must, just search for the game in "vndb.org" and there you should find a link to the TL's site and on it a patch.

  11. That is indeed awesome, combinded with the awesome downloading speed I'll use fuwanovel as my main DL site. Don't see any reason not to :D Hehe this is really awesome.

Being so easily played, it will really help the newcomers. It is suprising how many who find learning about tech stuff hard or simply too frustrating.

Also not needing to install is very practical on certain computers. Took me a couple of VN's to understand how it is done mainly. (Sympohonic Rain argh!)

I truly belive this is a great way to get more newcomers into vn's.

I would note that if it works on Windows 7 it's highly likely it will work on Vista too.

I have not doubt the PDF list will be handy for people, Tay!

  12. @ Bolverk: Really great thoughts. If you want to put some content together or help me at all, I would LOVE any additional brains/support/feedback for the project : ).

I'll continue to help you :), though I must pass on helping you putting it together, I have the commitment and attention spam of a Sloth.

  13. Here is a link to a rather large anime site: My link It should be practical to take a look at.

What I gather about popular animes made from VN's that would be, Clannad, Higurashi, Steins;gate and Fate stay night. I would have to agree with Aaeru about higurashi, as much as I dispise that outlook. The art may scruff away newcomers.

The reason to use popular animes is that it will make them interested. But you don't need to make the video centered around that.

As to Aaeru suggestion, Clannad would fit that quite well, lots of comedy. Little busters, very funny. You could mention they made Angel beats, just a thought.

  14. In your own words, what is a visual novel?

    - A Story presented with visuals and audio. Almost like a book with great story, visuals and audio. Superior to books in many ways (con's too of course), a combination of media we love from movies with music setting the mood. Faces, voices, mannerisims setting the characters, and the story. But much longer and a choice how the story would/will develop.

I could compare it to a movie: Citizen Kane, made in the 40's it's more of a book displayed in visuals and audio. Even so it's praised as one of the best moives of all time. That is similar to what VN's are IMO.

    What makes you love VNs?

-It's a combitation of what I love the most: Great story, visuals and audio. With the choice to choose how the game will develop.

And I dont need to flip pages..... *Lay in sofa*, look at screen, set to auto read, dont move a muscle for the next hour. Ahhh the joy of simple things.

Name one favorite song from a VN:

I mainly find the Openings most memorable, Ever 17, G senjou no maou, sharin no kuni, all great songs imo. All clannad music is great, amazing all of the BGM's.

Can you think of a moment in a VN-to-Anime where the anime perfectly mirrored or embodied the novel?

    - "perfect" is rather loose prospect, as there is always differences. But.

The scene at the end of steins;gate where they stand at the top of the radio building, infront of the crashed satellite before they travel. It's pretty much exactly the same in both the anime and VN.

  15. I'll give my input here too, if anyone doesn't mind~

As it is an intruduction video, it needs to teach newcomers and draw them in.

When you want more people to play VN's you need to think about what they can get. If they are looking at VN's they are probobly already interested, you need to capture them and not scare them off.

Main points of what the video should do.

    - Mainly the video is to show how VN's are played.

    - Clear some confusion, people have with dating sims, its just porn etc. (compare them to old games maybe)

    - Show some Anime made from VN's popular ones. (Steins;gate is a must imo)

    - To end it off, show some Great galges and eroges. (Note the differences, no ero or ero.)

    Some stuff you could add.

-Say that its not so different from Anime, you read "subs" for hours too lol. Just less animation and its longer.

-Galges and eroges, what's the differences?

-Show some links to youtube, VN's

That's what I would've like to see when I looked into VN's some years ago. Started with googling top 100 eroges, I got here:

    http://accany.wordpress.com/2009/06/06/100-best-eroges/

Played G senjyou no maou. Lol should have chosen a Non ero first.

    That's my 2 cents anyway.

  16. Currently reading Shikkoku no Sharnoth, I really great game. The art, music and story -style really is to my liking.
Also I really likes the details in the game, referances to lovecraft, other fiction stories, real life places, capturing the feel of old London, even the types of popular tea. Even so the joy that brings, Imo it is the art that brings it all together splendidly.

Kind of interesting one thing I noticed, the gun one character uses a pistol which "looks" very much like a Luger P08. Very cool gun. Fitting for steampunk  I guess.
