  1. Once in a lifetime a dream becomes reality. I'm making a Manga. This is based after the Visual Novel I'm creating. I'm raising a bit of money to hire some help to complete it and this will help with the game also. It looks great already!... Lots of images, a video, music, and a game.

Check out the link and if you like what you see, donating even a dollar is a big help: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...d-visual-novel

Keep the forum alive by posting on the topic. I'll get buried by the other well established and popular topics. Omni Link is AAA in quality and is definitely grass-roots. Even the theme song was sung by a family member. I should mention I'm so grateful to all those who helped me get this far.

    Story 物語

This is a brief copy paste about the story from the Kickstarter page:

"Experience the journey of new and interesting characters with their own personal struggles and motives. Everyone is tied together in meaningful realistic ways although placed in an impossible situation. What is that situation? To defeat the "Virus". Code-name for the Apocalypse you think you know. However, this is not your average end of life scenario. The story will have twists and turns and unexpected plots. The story will suggest to you what to believe, and we hope you will be fooled.

It all starts when our ace pilot Keb comes across a vessel of unknown origin. Through a misunderstanding, and a deathly explosion, he finds himself surprisingly alive and at the mercy of Dawn."

  2. I wanted to mention that Steams new publishing platform dubbed "Steam Direct" is pretty neat. Basically it lets the customers decide what content they want to see on the store and lets anyone publish a game. The self-publishing fee is $100. So now more than ever is a good time to realize your dream and make a game. And you get the 100 bucks back if your game sales exceed that amount.

  3. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! There is a huge Black Friday sale going on now at Steam and they are having an event called Steam nominations. While there is no way I could win a nomination in the normal categories, there is a "Make your Own" nomination category.

Me and all my friends will nominate Omni Link for the "Unusual Hybrid" award. Nominate my game for the: Unusual Hybrid award during the steam sale and let's see if we get noticed. You put that under category suggestion. No one as ever made a top down shooter visual novel adventure.

In case everyone missed the announcement with icons. I decided to post them here:

  4. I'm new to the scene. I watch anime and have been writing for a long time, but I decided to make my first game and finish my first anime story. It's called Omni Link. The forum link has a video and outline:

I also make 2D graphics and since my strength is sci-fi, that's were I decided to take my story. I love science fiction. When it comes time, I'll be on the lookout for good voice artists if you know any.

  5. I wanted to address some things concerning gameplay since people who play visual novels are not used to this type of game. Being a top-down shooter. I made the gameplay in such a way that this aspect can be quite easy if you want to get through it quickly just to enjoy the story. Ectype D-8 can control ships you capture when summoned as "support". If you start the game on casual difficulty you should be able to sit back and relax while your fleet does the job. There are however a few gameplay puzzles that take a little thought.

    Description:
Omni Link is a different kind of visual novel featuring space exploration, real-time combat, and choices that affect gameplay and story. Find love across the stars and learn what it takes to give everything you have for those you care about.

    Story:
You play as Keb. A man of little consequence. An orphan without a past or a future. It's your first day on the job at Zaos Corporation when you encounter an alien vessel. Through a misunderstanding, your vessel explodes & binds you with an entity known as Ectype D-8, an attractive and powerful being of technology. You quickly learn that there is more to this ship and A.I. than meets the eye. The artificial intelligence is so advanced she is able to absorb energy from other ships and duplicate them. As well as use a mysterious ability called Omni Link.

This comes at a time when an entity called "The Virus" awakens near the edge of the galaxy. Suns are disappearing and planets are dying. People discover that this threat is real. However, no one knows exactly what the Virus is or has lived to tell about it.

On your journey you'll discover what it means to love and lose everything. The people you meet--a child prodigy, an ace pilot, a computer genius--will all come to depend on you to save them. Not because you're anything special... because you give everything you have.

    Steam Early Access:
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/529100/

    Why Early Access?
Besides my artist, and help from the game maker community, most everything else I've done alone. This includes advertisement, programming, most art, and I even wrote the theme song for the game. My excitement for the characters, the story, and gameplay has helped me work long hours. I can only do so much alone. I come to early access to involve you and ask for help. I want voice artists for the characters, more backgrounds, and art for you to enjoy. This is the only game of it's kind.

    Poll
I added a poll that might be fun to fill out after you play the game and story. When we get to that point, I can learn what characters you like so I can focus on them or make changes if needed. If this thread lasts that long :)
  7. Thanks for your impressions. I've learned that I need to flush out the characters and story more. They have a huge backstory and I've realized I need to focus on them much earlier. I'm hiring an editor. This is the reason I reached out for help.

What you mentioned would make an excellent CG scene. Art is still being developed. So much is missing from the demo I can't wait to show everyone.

  8. 10 hours ago, Chronopolis said:

If I could ask anything about the art, it's that you make the sprites match the emotions, and the sprite expressions strong enough. I imagine it could be hard with more complex art, but a VN that has epic art and suitable facial expressions is such an experience.

I agree with you, I'd like to have more expressive emotions. Almost exaggerated a little if needed.

I've been working on a visual novel where you can play a full space game adventure similar to "escape velocity nova" or star control 3, but enjoy all the best of a visual novel. Choices that matter, romance, hand drawn character and background art.

Demo: *Includes the entire first chapter

The non-spoiler version of the story is this:

You start the game as a man of little consequence. The first chapter: "A Hero Will Rise" defines exactly what you become.

There is something called "The Virus" which has awakened near the edge of the galaxy. People are painfully discovering that this is a real threat. The Virus consumes everything it touches.

You encounter an advanced warship, and an explosion binds you with an entity known as Ectype D-8. You quickly learn that there is more to this ship and A.I. that meets the eye. The artificial intelligence is so advanced, she is able to absorb energy from other ships and duplicate them. As well as quantum burst, administer atmospheric regeneration, quantum entanglement, and of course...Omni Link. You find out about these abilities as you play.

Your choices in the game affect what happens to the story and gameplay in meaningful ways. You'll discover this in the demo. What ships you acquire, who you save from the Virus threat, and what relationships of love, hate, and friendship you form. Who do you trust?

I need a small amount of funding to pay the art/music artists involved:

*This gives you chance to be a part of the game early on, and even design some content.

since the background is black, my character descriptions don't show up :(

    Real-time tactical combat

Choices that affect gameplay and story in minor and large ways

Huge two path end game split

Hand drawn character and background art

    Epic emotional music

*Let me know what you think of the demo and story.

  10. There is a good chance this game hasn't been mentioned. Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~

It's a pretty good mix of choices/gameplay/and story.  Although I don't care much for the mature content (which you can disable) I like the way it is above some other visual novels. Can anyone tell me what engine it is made in?
