VirginSmasher
A visual novel that left a big impact on me recently was Saya no Uta.I started playing the game thinking that it was just gonna be a grotesque and horrifying experience but it was actually a very intriguing and moving experience. I felt that this visual novel really brings out the notions of the "fascination of the abomination," in that we are sometimes subconsciously attracted to the sight of something horrible and disgusting. I know that was probably the reason that I decided to play this because I was curious and attracted to what people described as the most messed up visual novel ever. But what really got me was that under the grotesque background and inhuman changes of the protagonist, I still felt like there was something undeniably beautiful about this work.Overall, it was a messed up experience but it really got me thinking about the "don't judge a book by its cover" phrase to a whole new meaning.I just played that recently as well. I expected a disturbing gory visual novel with some emotionally impacting moments as well. I got that and more with it. Saya was actually a character instead of just a monster and the disturbing stuff adds to the story instead to detracting from the experience. It does a hell of a lot in such a short period of time which I congratulate them for doing that. I'd give it a 9 out of 10 just because some of the human characters could've had more development to them and even if the length were a little bit longer so that I could get emotionally attached to all of the characters. Still an awesome game and I'd recommend it to anybody who can stand disturbing stuff.
