  1. I'm thinking about replaying an older Layton game too, as the puzzles in Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright were terrible.

I'd probably go with Unwound Future, though. I loved that game.

As for what I'm playing right now, I'm too deep in Sharin no Kuni to really engage myself with too much else, but I did recently finish both Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright and Dishonored. Dishonored is a really cool game. I think I'm totally going to buy all the DLC now.

  2. Well I actually like 18+ content, sure too much of it just ruins the experience, but more often than not I find H content fulfilling(in a non-sexual way mind you).

Personally, I think it depends on the story. In a lot of cases, I think it's extremely out of place. Like, I feel like G Senjou no Maou didn't need H scenes at all. However, something lighthearted can have them in without feeling too out of place. Then there are the in-between cases, where the sexual content is actually relevant to the story, I think those are the best situations for H content.

Like, in Katawa Shoujo, (Hanako's route, at least) they end up using the H scenes as a means to show you how completely fucked up and broken the relationship between the MC and Hanako is. And in Grisaia, Amane does sexual stuff out of deep-seeded guilt she feels.

But then you end up in situations like Fate/Stay Night where the H content is not only completely unnecessary, but it's also just disturbing.

  3. i shit you not i accidentally cracked my last screen venting about it. I didn't want you to get ya hopes up. Unfortunately the truest Harems i've ever seen happen in Tears to Tiara and -*shudder* boob wars 2

Well thanks for the heads up. Is Tears to Tiara worth playing? I don't have anything lined up after I finish Sharin.

  4. this man has his priorities in order. Play Sachi's route first, play the inferior girl's routes while comparing them to Sachi, Play Yumiko's route last then play Sachi's route again.

Unfortunately not talking about Grisaia, though Sachi is totally the best route in that game, by far.

Do you mean "rote" or "chapter"?  The way Sharin is structured, you can't finish a route unless you finish the VN storyline, and you have to pass all of the heroines' chapters to finish the storyline.  Each heroine has their own chapter, with Chapter 1 technically being the common route, and Chapter 5 being the ending.

I mean chapter. I'm going to focus on the heroines in reverse order, going Natsumi, then Touka, then Sachi, then Harem, then secret heroine (though it's pretty obvious who the secret heroine is going to be.)

(Also, yes, I totally use guides whenever I play VNs. Forgive me.)

  5. I lost my mind when I heard this version of this song:

    My god.

I actually know a lot of sad music from outside the world of video games/VNs, as it's kind of my thing.

The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot by Brand New:

^This band is a great place to start for sad music.

Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event:

There Is by Box Car Racer (yes, this is where my username comes from):

Love in the Time of Human Papillomavirus by Andrew Jackson Jihad:

    Winter by Bayside:

A Perfect Sonnet by Bright Eyes:

^A lot of people hate on this guy, but whatever. He makes really good sad songs.

Swimming Pool by The Front Bottoms:

I have a whole lot more, but I'll stop there for now  :P

  6. Don't be bringin' any of that logic hippie shit into this conversation, Zeno. When you make a bold claim like best girl, you've got to be willing to let things get ugly.

On topic: I read a little bit of Hoshimemo last night to whet my appetite for when I begin it proper. I didn't read a whole lot, it was sort of charming. I like Chinami... so far. We'll see how this oniichan business wears on over the course of the entire title.

  7. yay two pages of catching up...............you know what, screw it where are we now?

I think it would be too much of a pain in the ass to actually not have him split like that. Remember once we branch off from the Main route those events never happen. It goes off in another direction that we don't care about much and screws itself over. Plus if he wasn't a total pussy in that route you wouldn't get to save the chick and shit and remembering that Maou hates police intervention the most so once you call the cops he splits. That said i don't think people should ever branch off from the main route of G-Senjou, your skip button wears down pretty fast if you do and it's mostly not worth it to see a few H-Scenes (coming from me that's a lot) especially if you are drunk enough to go on Kanon's route.

    <_<

  8. I hadn't heard it until I looked it up just now, but yeah, that's a pretty great song. Have you listened to any of the music from Chrono Cross? I've never actually played the game, but the soundtrack is incredible. Ephemeral Memory is probably my favorite track, but the entire thing is just amazing.

  9. I like A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask both better, but I grew up playing Ocarina of Time and I will never be able to see it as anything other than amazing because of that. Also, I really love the music of the Zelda games, and Ocarina had some of the best in the series, in my opinion. I'm a music guy, by the way. Music is awesome.

  10. Other people have already recommended Fate/Stay Night, and I'm going to have to join in. It's pretty good. It's not the best thing you'll ever play, and it has some (totally unnecessary)  H-scenes that are downright weird (like, weirder than they usually are, the first one you come across still creeps me out) but it's still pretty damn good. Highly recommended.

  11. Huh. Now that I think about it, you are correct.

Missile was pretty awesome though, gameplay-wise.

    Fuck no.

Missile was pretty awesome in general.

When I found out that he was the lamp all along, I almost shit my pants.

God, that game is good. I need to go back and play it again. But an ex-roommate has my copy of it and that situation is... awkward and I don't think I'm ever going to ask for it back. I hope the IOS version is as good as the DS one was.

Seriously, if anyone here owns a DS or an IOS device, Ghost Trick is totally worth your time. Yeah, it's not a VN, but its story is completely mind bending and the gameplay aspects of it aren't all that involved.

  12. We must have very similar tastes. I believe the game devs were going for a Wright-based gameplay style and a Layton story, though they should have evened it out more. I have no idea why you put that part in spoilers, though I agree there.

    I see dat Sissel.

I thought that revealing that the ending is

Layton-esque would actually give away a lot. If I had been readying myself for a Layton story from the get-go, I would have

known that the magic was all faked, rather than being tricked into believing that this was an alternate universe made specifically for the crossover.

It's probably completely unnecessary, I just don't want to even risk ruining it for anyone else. Being pulled along by that little thread was fun for me.

Also, hell yeah, Sissel. I was thinking about going with Missile, because holy shit Ghost Trick, but didn't want a dog as a profile image.

Edit: I'm pretty new here, I guess I should check if swearing is okay before doing it. Am I good? Or do I need to edit that out?

  13. Have you tried Never7? Honestly, Ever17 is the best of the Infinity series, but Remember11 is the downpoint of the famous three, and Ever17 is the best. And yes, there are other games to the Infinity series. Sharin No Kuni is kind of more relaxed, but if you liked stuff like Ever17, you'll probably love it too.

Pretty sure Layton Vs. Wright is actually considered a VN. Though it IS awesome. I have had a history with both gaming series, and it's great that they finally combined the series and actually connected the universes (That'll really help GT Crossover if it comes up), but I feel they could have done it slightly better. I have no real complaint for it except... WHY IS IT A DAMN WITCH HUNT?

  14. Never 7 is the first game in the infinity series. Therefore, it doesn't have any similar issues.

However! I it's pretty much a romance game most of the time, except for the true route, unlike Ever17 and Remember11 which focus more on the Sci-Fi and mindscrew all the way through. Think of it like this:

Light mindcrew - heavy romance: Never 7

Medium mindscrew - medium romance: Ever17

Heavy mindcrew - light romance: Remember 11

I actually enjoy both elements quite a bit, so I suppose I will play Never 7. I was thinking about just leaving it alone, since Remember 11 put such a sour taste in my mouth, but now it sounds like it's worth my time. Thanks for the heads up! Also, The Edgeworth pic: badass. Ace Attorney is my favorite series of any genre of game.

  15. It kinda went like this, for the company who made it.

PLANNED(this might be inaccurate, as I no longer remember the source): 1st route(leave us in the dark) - 2nd route(enlighten some stuff) - 3rd route(explain everything)

But in the middle of Saturou's route (2nd), they kinda run out of budget and had to cut it short, fitting everything they could into Saturou's.

The company later went on to go bankrupt.

So, that wasn't the planned ending at all, the developers just had to make do with what they could.

  16. Welcome to Fuwa, A.K.A. Promised Loli Land! Have a loli:

You should add Umineko no Naku Koro ni to your "to read" list, just don't be fooled by the Official Theory.

I'm also learning japanese, online, and I wish you good luck. To help, you can see this thread for useful resources.

Hope you have fun and I'll see you around.

Thank you for pointing me to that thread!

Welcome to the forums fellow Fuwan. I hope you enjoy your stay. If you haven't already play Sharin, it's from the devs of G-senjou.

I'm actually playing it right now! I'm not very far yet, though.

  17. I just started Sharin no Kuni, I hope it's as awesome as everyone says it is.

This is coming off of having just finished Remember 11, which really bugged the hell out of me. What a garbage ending. I was really expecting it to be something on the level of Ever 17, but no, it didn't even come close.

And in non VN news, I just finished Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright. It's pretty awesome, though it really feels like a Professor Layton game that Phoenix and Maya just happened to show up in. I feel like if the story was just a little less nonsensical, it could have been better. Still, if you're a fan of either series, I think it's worth picking up, and if you're a fan of both than it's a must-buy. Though I have to admit, the puzzles are really weak compared to other Layton titles. The court stuff is generally pretty good, with some new mechanics that make it feel like a pretty unique Ace Attorney experience.

  18. Welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy your stay!

    What's your favourite VN?

Hmmm... I think it's either Katawa Shoujo (for the reason I discussed above) or Ever 17.

    Welcome to FuwaForums !

    Enjoy your stay !

Please read G-Senjou no Maou and Grisaia no kajitsu !
