  1. For me, I first learned about Touhou way back when I was a Higurashi fan and mistook Marisa Stole the Precious Thing for a Satoko video! When I searched "Touhou" on YouTube a video of the fight against Mokou was the first option and really drew me in. After a while Mokou became my favorite character. She's usually quiet like me but likes helping people who are lost.

But Byakuren became my co-favorite when UFO came out because she's such a kind big sister character! I like nice people! ^^

I just got caught up on The Wild and Horned Hermit today. So does everyone think Kasen is an oni?

  2. Overall, i enjoyed this game. Although some of the routes were a little meh, i quite enjoyed rubinas's route the best.

Same here! Though that might be a spoiler...

By the way, are people aware that Xross Scramble, the fandisk for Duel Savior, is already translated? Has a new story for Crea and a longer one featuring a new girl in the class named Eska.

  3. Oh, what are some of people's favorite characters and doujins, and why? Although it's hard to choose since there are so many!

Also I'm currently following the wrestling 4koma Touhou Tag Dream, which is perhaps the longest running Touhou 4koma or at least one of them. Finally the conclusion looms after almost a thousand strips!

Except he also restricts commercial use of HIS franchise (as though somehow touhou can still be completely HIS) such as refusing commercial anime adaptations and preventing erotic adaptations of HIS characters (even though ppl make them anyway).

Isn't the first part a good thing though? ZUN didn't want to make Touhou into a commercialized intellectual property since that could result in a stifling of fanwork by middlemen. He just wants to make his games and sell them in person at conventions.

Unfortunately, it appears to have cost him, because apparently since he never registered Touhou Project as an trademark, some random golddigger recently registered it and the Japan Patent Office rejected ZUN's objection because the registration did not break any of the trademark laws, according to this article.

Also, did he really say he'll restrict ero? Because I remember hearing that people thought that but they misinterpreted his words and he specifically wrote another post to clarify he didn't mean it like that.

  4. It would be against the law to not have a thread for the popular Ace Attorney franchise, aka Phoenix Wright to many people.

Sooo, with the 5th game finally in development and Phoenix back in the main role...whatever happened to Apollo? Murder victim #1? The suspect you defend?

  5. You know its funny you say that. I have over 300 VHS tapes and 250 VCD, or Video Disks, which are as big as old school Vinyl records. lol Lots of money spent on a media that i cant play anymore lol.

    Anyway, thanks for your welcome!!

I just discovered the joy of VN's. Ive played Clannad, Kanon and Tomoya After to completion. In the middle of Deardrops and Ever17. Im hooked lol.

Ive always know about them, but never had the time to play any due to being active duty Military. Now that im retired, i can enjoy all the time ;)

Great that you have the time to really dig in now! Sounds like you've become a fan of key works? Or were you already a fan from their anime?

What are some genres you like or are interesting in experimenting with?

  6. Hi there Ryoji, welcome aboard! Thanks for helping out!

Wow it's great to have such a veteran in more ways than one! I read that in the early days, "japanimation" as it was called back then had to be physically copied on VCR tapes and physically distributed amongst the small underground circle. We've sure come along way! Were you a longtime VN fan as well or was that more recent?

    Here's to your health!

  7. Besides videogames like Harvest Moon, I don't believe I've truly played an otome game before somehow. Which is weird, because I've even read a yaoi one.

I think I might just give Hakuoki a try, especially since I'm already quite familliar with the Shinsengumi.

Here's to the marvel that is Touhou Project! Somehow visual novels and Touhou seem to go hand in hand and most of the visual novel fans I know also love Touhou!

What is Touhou Project? It is series of doujin bullet-hell shooter games by a one-man team called Team Shanghai Alice that has attracting an unprecedented amount of fan creation. Thanks to the creator ZUN's lax attitude towards fanworks, they've popped up by the millions. The fanworks span just about everything, from manga to games to music remixes. You can find out more about it here!

What are people's speculations for the upcoming Touhou 13.5-Hopeless Masquerade?

  9. Thanks! Mokou is indeed my favorite character, though now she actually shares the spot with Byakuren. I like her interactions with Kaguya!

Speaking of which, while lots of people like to stick to one personal canon, I rather like looking at fiction through a VN-like lens filled with alternate possibilities. So I actually love seeing all the alternate interpretations of characters and their relationships. What's the border between hate and love, and what does it take for that border to be crossed? I enjoy loving yuri MokouXKaguya doujins as much as serious drama depicting them bloodily ripping each other's bodies apart.

I've read most of the esteemed English-translated visual novels available though not all. I'm pretty open to experimenting with new things and like trying something from every genre. I am currently contemplating trying Majikoi but that's not fully translated yet. I just recently finished playing Duel Savior, Xross Scramble, and Kara no Shoujo so they're all still fresh in my mind. Nanashi-chan is so moe, and I'm looking forward to Kara no Shoujo 2 to continue the tale while answering lingering questions.

  10. I just finished playing Duel Savior last week and completed Kara no Shoujo this week and enjoyed both. Being so different, they complemented each other well for me.

Duel Savior was a lot of fun with a surprisingly decent battle system. It is a brawler, but the system is treated as a fighting game. Block, parry, super moves, cancels, and even roman cancels are all part of the game, and once you unlock Endless Mode, there are a lot of characters to choose from, though not all have complete move sets. The art is a bit dated but most of the characters are pretty likable. My favorite is Nanashi the adorable zombie girl that wants to be your waifu. Unfortunately, it also has perhaps the worst imouto character I've ever seen, but at least her route is nice. A blast to play overall.

Kara no Shoujo is a murder mystery with a beautiful and chilling atmosphere. It is a tale of obsession and revenge. There is some adventure gameplay and it is actually quite challenging to beat without a walkthrough, which may be a pro or con depending on your perspective. One notable thing is that the characters have realistic hair colors for the most part, so almost everyone has black or at least dark brownish hair unless they're explicitly foreign. Despite the sombre colors and mood, there is indeed humor. The mystery is gripping, though unfortunately some events were too contrived and a lot of questions remain unanswered. Nonetheless, my appetite is whet for the upcoming sequel.
