  1. So I just started Muv Luv Alternative. I thought it had no routes and a single ending, but that apparently isn't the case.

It seems there are "arcs", and choices.

    1) Is there only one ending?

    2) Do I unlock new arcs as the story progresses? How do the "arcs" work?

    3) If there is only one ending (I am not sure about this), what do the choices change?

    4) Is there a walkthrough, do the choices affect anything?

    5) If there isn't a set order, what's the recommended order of reading the arcs?

  2. I don't think you can pick that much vocabulary from a VN if you've already been exposed to a fair amount of english writing, be it papers, "real" novels or even comics. But I imagine they would be pretty good if English is your second language and you want to read something that's not so hard. Most JRPGs would work, too.

  3. No. It's absolutely not worth it to part with your money to buy stuff that you'll know you won't like, just because there's the possibility (and just the possibility) that they might translate decent stuff in the future. Now, a 7 is not that bad... You can think that a novel deserves that ranking, but still like it more than you should going by the number alone. In that case, it'd be worth buying it.

  4. lmao dude I've seen feminists get shat on in way worse ways than that from actual people who were actually out of their mind. I have zero trouble believing that was real. Of course, I also think the person who wrote them was spineless and wouldn't ever follow through on anything.

The thing is that there are crazy people on both sides of the issue like the people who hacked the fine young capitalists indiegogo, and that the whole thing is a clusterfuck I refuse to interact with. It also has practically nothing to do with anything here so maybe we shouldn't get too far off topic.

No, thing is, she's controversial, I get that, and I can totally believe that she gets death threats and all sort of shit. It's just that, death threats from a brand new twitter account, and with threats that look written by a woman (Seriously, would a man threaten to "drink blood off your cunt"? Any man? Is giving oral sex to a woman a male fantasy? News to me) just in the wake of the Zoe Quinn thing? Nah.

But yes, you're right, this is going way off topic.

  5. Speaking of threats, the feminist community is propably trying to piss of gamers as well - they are petitioning Steam to completely shut down it's services for a whole hour as a form of protest against their oppresive behaviour. I agree sending rape and death threats is an awful thing to do, but why should the worldwide community take responsibility for what was done by a bunch of people? I find that particular way of thinking no different from previous commitments of those guys.

That was news to me, do you have any sources? And is this in response to those fake-ass death threats Anita Sarkeesian got? (No, seriously, read the twits... No way a man wrote them.)

  6. That's my major qualm with the game, they introduced him and built a good base around him then hardly used him.

No, Gasai works well as a background character. You're not supposed to sympathize with his thoughts, logical as they are, you're supposed to put yourself in Akihito's moronic shoes and go "no but u is not saving everyone u evilz!!1!1!!" while you see the red color 5 times in a single scene. Gasai works because this game does tell you way, way more than it shows you, and if it started showing you all that Gasai does, it would lose focus rapidly.

  7. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who reads VNs impulsively. Speaking to some people on the forums it feels like some people just plow through them. I could never keep that pace up. Also if I did that I would run out of any decent VNs to read within a year.

Hey, that just happened to me!

  8. Yes, it's worth playing through Extra and Unlimited just for Alternative. And I'm gonna be a contrarian, skip Extra. There's only one event that's actually relevant for Alternative's plot, and it'll be explained then. The rest is a nice bit of foreshadowing, but nothing you can't really live without. More importantly, character development doesn't carry over in the case of Takeru (he starts Unlimited as a generic rom com lead, just as he starts Extra) and in the case of the other characters you'll get to know their personalities again during Unlimited, so that's a win.

tl;dr, skip Extra, it's shit, and don't look back.

Unlimited's more light-hearted than alternative, and good. Not great, just good. Also, short.
