  1. I'm not sure how you can say that. Fate stay night anime adaptation was so popular that oavs (and Bd versions), movies and sequels where made specifically for the anime market. Fate stay night is extremely popular in animation, and is for sure a lot more popular than the visual novel. Just ask a random anime fan, there are great chances he knows fate even only by name. But to the contrary it's a lot likely that they didn't play the vn and even know it was adapted from a visual novel. Not delusionnal because a lot of people think exactly the same way i am. Actually the majority of people might think this way. If you are a pervert, then it's you only, but don't include everyone else. And there is a clear distinction between porn and art: nobody will say a porn movie is a work of art. By mixing sex into vn it degrades it and makes it a lot harder to appreciate it's value.
  2. Actually i was more talking about people who claim they are "necessary" by the sole reason that they think that they are there for the sale. These people opinion is contradictory. By the way, i think the main problem is that most of the vn include h scenes. It's rare to see ones who don't include it. It's a vicious circle: developpers include h scenes mainly by tradition now. If one says that nukige sells well then it means that vn players mostly want to play vn for sex, which is very shocking to me, i think it's completely untrue (that would mean vn are aimed to perverts which i cannot accept). It's degrading for the medium to say that people are about here for the sex. Seriously, why having mosaiced sex scenes included is such a big deal? The funny thing is that even for these people who want to play for sex then they are screwed because the content is censored. And even if it's decensored, then it looks very bad because the artists don't make effort for what is hidden behind the mosaics (why would they?) Also like i said, many people agree about the fact h scenes and nukige are making visual novel look bad, so i think actually it's rather the opposite and vn would sell better if they were free of H scenes. Seriously it is shocking to say that H boost the sales. It implies people are wanting them for the sex while many claim otherwise. That looks wrong. That's the problem with the japanese developpers, they act like brainwashed into including h scenes in their games, i think it's the main reason they want to include them. I don't understand the points you are making reference to (like saying 120 points). Where does it comes from (website)? To the contrary, i think if it was the reverse and the majority of vn didn't have H scenes, vn would sell a lot more. Look at the anime adaptation of many visual novel; they don't include h scenes (otherwise it would become hentai) and many of these adaptation are very successful (fate,kanon ect). It's the contrary there: if the anime included H scenes it would sell less and if they would really be needed it would never have been successfull. Why should it be different for vn?
  3. I don't know why but it seems that a lot of people playing visual novel are insecure or react quite strongly about this subject as i have seen in many places and here. Many times people are justifing the existence of h scenes in vn with the argument that it's for the sales while saying themselves that they don't like h scenes in vn. Where does this inconsistency comes from? Because it's contradictory to say that people want to play vn for the story and then say that without h it would sell less or that they are necessary otherwise. There isn't any logic there. As far as i 'm concerned, i'm strongly against H scenes in vn and especially vn who use them extensively. Are there people who think the same here? My reason to not wanting h scenes in vn is that it not only degrades the medium but also added a distorted buissness practice for the japanese developpers who now only do this as tradition without any actual justifications.
  4. さげずみ here is most likely a faulty writing of the verb 蔑む(sagesumu) which means to look down at. so it probably could be translated by: "Looking down at days of boredom, seeking thrill for the imagination, looking for a place to belong, developing only our values."

  6. I don't know where you get your feeling in the last statement, but i disagree. I think you are overlooking the fact that PP not showing up everytime (though i still feel he is fairly interacting with fans) doesn't mean that he is not highly commited with JAST as well, as there is a bit more than the visible part but also behind the scenes work. Peter Payne could have had a very "classical" managing style (CEO from other buissness companies are not necessary interacting very much with their public). To the contrary, i have even seen him interacting with fans on other platforms and places not related to JAST such as Lewdgamer. He was also one of the only ones answering a lot of people questions about important information concerning some games releases on twitter and JAST website. Regarding work unrelated to PR, as he is based in Japan, he is most probably the one dealing with such process as acquisitions and Japanese companies contacting, like meeting them in person to establish contracts.
  7. I don't see from where you make your assumptions. What you say is incorrect. If they really were the mother of the genre, there would be no need to have different terms. It doesn't make sense to speak about the genre by ignoring this fact.
  8. I don't see how the scenes are enhancing the story. There is even no need to show explicit scenes to have romance. If the scene were only suggested what would be the problem? I really don't understand how there is this need to see things explicitly. What do you mean about "porn game genre"? So you mean that the sex was the main focus to begin with? That's untrue. Look at games like clannad which is old now (2004) and had zero sex scenes and still went popular. And Key have stated they didn't want to include sex scenes in their games even if some of their games have some. I remember i have even heard of some people saying that a game like Euphoria was not a nukige...what these people are thinking seriously. Why it is a fetish? They can do nothing against the law and could have big problem if they don't respect it.
  9. at least the IRL japanese video will not affect what is behind the mosaics. Every eroge artist is drawing what is behind them extremely badly because there is no reason to put effort into it. So what is the purpose of demosaiced western releases? I mean other than gasping at how bad it is. i see people saying the purpose is to release the games as they were intended to be.
  10. What i don't like about eroge and visual novels in general, are these pseudo justifications about h scenes. It's always the same arguments that i see over and over, when the people actually want to see sex and try to justify it by all means. You have a lot of misconceptions. It's a common one to think that it is a thing about a "western mindset" in that case because there are actually a lot of japanese as well who think that porn degrade works. I don't see how it enhances the romance: you don't have to show sex to have a good romance. And even by showing sex, to make them as explicit that the ones in visual novel A lot of japanese people are precisely not interested into visual novel for this sole reason. And don't be mistaken; visual novels are seen as "porn" game by the average japanese as well as the average westerner and no more accepted than here. There are actually even a lot of people in japan would be happy if this medium would disappear or are voicely against it. It's even more ridiculous that the scenes need to be mosaiced making the genre even more dumb. If people want to see sex, they have manga and doujin, at least this medium give the possibility to artists to display their art in a fair amount, contrary to eroge makers who always draw very badly what is hidden by censors because no bit of it can be seen. I originally though the unmosaiced parts were redrawn by mangagamer because of how bad they look, but since it seems to not be the case, it's even more ridiculous. Basically games are not even worth to be licensed with demosaiced scenes because of that. Visual novels without sex scenes would still be the current medium they are, you lose nothing by removing the h scenes.
  11. Ok so, the premise was not correct from the begining... xD... now i look like a fool who just wrote 3 useless posts... (that's why we shouldn't talk too much about vague informations...) i suspected this too because the way it was formulated on fakku was not clear to begin with... she talks about fees in some of her tweet, so maybe she expected to receive a payement related to the licensing of her chapter through fakku. So it could be a rights related problem because she mention the term specifically; given her tweet, and from what i understood, i think her reaction should have been interpreted as that she does not seem to have been aware at all that she was going to be distributed through Fakku, she mentions uncensored because it's just the state of the release. It could be the reason of the misunterpretation, but until Fakku or Sayori tell further about this, it is mainly speculation.

Providing the uncensored version by itself is not creating a derivative work, given that the uncensored version use the original drawings and not a third party edit. However, translations are derivative works, as they are made after the author's original material (the text) by a different "author". The reason is that to be derivative, a work should involve the modification, alteration, or change of an existing original; but in this case the original concerning the visuals is the uncensored version acquired by Fakku through Wanimagazine itself. Thus, as far as "uncensoring" is specifically concerned, it's just the act of displaying the art before the magazine's staff applies the censorship. As the legal definition of derivative under U.S laws says: "A “derivative work” is a work based upon one or more preexisting works ". It's the same when uncensored versions of a movie/series are featured because it has been edited for tv broadcasting or distribution obligations; they are not considered strictly speaking, derivative works as well unless the original have been modified by another "author" (translation subtitles created by other persons than the studio, are derivative works). The term is generally used when it involves modifications made by another person than the author of the work in question or an adaptation of the work to an other format. I don't know what the contract terms between the different parties involved are, but it could be possible that the current problem is related to the fact the copyrights are mutually shared by Wani and Sayori concerning her work published into the magazine. So Wani didn't consult her about it, being the ones giving the distribution and translation rights to Fakku concerning the issue of the magazine and it's content.
  13. To be fair, even if it's the law that does not meant the average japanese is in favor of censorship. One reason some eroge companies are reluctant to release their titles without mosaics is because reverse importation. That's the reason companies like mangagamer are blocking the access to their website to japanese ips. Like i said it's not like the artists are self censoring their work for pleasure, they do it because they can face legal problems such as very big fines if they face obscenity charges. The increased censorship in some media like manga are the results of police raids on artists and editors. There is a lot of hypocrisy around this: even a company like minori, despite their stance with mangagamer, had an artbook of one of their eroge which displayed the in-game artworks with minimal censorship (no mosaic, tiny black bars). It's rare to see it nowdays because the context has become stricter. to come back to the op question, like others has said too, i don't think it's a simple matter of "views on censorship" concerning Sayori's case and others but rather personnal concerns about potential problems. Some of her works published in the past had much lighter censorship than nowdays; she would have added a mosaic from the start if she didn't want people to see her original drawings. These kind of reactions really depend of the artist. Some even have contradictory views about censorship: i remember an interview of la blue girl and urotsukidoji's creator Toshio maeda (for people who don't know him, he is the ''inventor" of tentacles in hentai), where he said "i think censorship is necessary". Still, it didn't prevent him to try to get around the censors by using tentacles and publishing some of his works uncensored through american publishers in the past. I even remember there was an eroge sold on the internet which was a "false western release": they just made some parts of the site in english and processed the transactions in dollars. But most part of it was in japanese. They never had any problems...   14. Someone said it above, but i am surprised to see there are a lot of mis and overinterpretation about the censorship. Basically, the artists are not censoring their artwork because they want to, but simply because of the obscenity laws in japan. Censorship is only "part of the medium" by necessity. It should not be forgotten that there was a time when there was an hidden command used in old eroge to display the uncensored cg, but the trick was found and not used anymore after. Actually e.g. in eroge artbooks are a way for artists to provide less censored versions of the artworks by changing the censorship standard or reducing the mosaics. It has become harder to do so, because the present situation in japan regarding censorship is not very good. And since there is no clear definition of what obscene material is, the artists are only left with unwritten faint guidance lines which are constantly changing, in relation to the cops attitude. Arguing about artistic intend is not relevant there considering the censors are a legal obligation. Altering the art by censoring is not done for artistic reasons at all, and Sayori's decision might be influenced by the japanese law and context. Some of her artworks were already published in japan with quite light censorship and no mosaic contrary to her most recent works. Some artists are very concerned about the law, and for various reasons feel that displaying the uncensored artwork can be a problem. It's the reason some are very reluctant to release the uncensored artwork for a western release. They think they could get in trouble with people from japan reverse importing it or distributing it around the internet. The Sayori's stance is an individual stance of one artist regarding the censorship problem, possibly to protect her against a perceived risk regarding japanese law. It's a similar but more radical attitude than the minori's stance for releasing one of their games not uncensored but with reduced mosaics.

  16. Lol, it's the funniest thing i've read about eroge today! So you mean jast had to redraw it themselves or ask the japanese studio to remove the smileys? i don't see any purpose for that, i have already seen smiley used as censorship but didn't knew smiley covered by mosaics existed! it must be done for trolling people (like say, we can do anything because anyway nobody will be able to see it). Also sorry to be maybe insisting, but since the title of lilith in question i thought of was Ikusa otome suvia, were you provided the original uncensored asset from the studio for this one in particular? sorry for my insistance, but i would like to know for this specific title , because it had been some kind of disappointement...it was the first time i saw such mistakes such as having some of the female parts completely misplaced ( turned upside down) on one specific cg. It's such a waste for the artists. But i have seen cases when they try to circumvent the censor by releasing artbooks for the games and material throught the doujin market, with sometimes the censorship reduced (blacks bars instead of mosaics, or thin mosaics). And i know it happens for hentai anime too...but this time there are generally no artbooks or such things released later. By the way, i have a little off topic question, but do you know if Mangagamer is planing on licensing some hentai animes (i have seen an anime section in the site, but with nothing inside). Like for titles you released on eroge format? I think for exemple to some anime like Ikusa otome suvia which i already mentioned, because the company who did the adaptation is a branch of the eroge developper Lilith.

It's very informative and helps dispelling the conceptions people have about it, it's something rarelly talked about because it's behind the scenes. I was really asking myself, sometimes it's not only very roughtly drawn, but there can be blatant anatomical errors. So it means that if for exemple, a game released by for exemple lilith has these problems it's only the artist fault? I am surprised of the differences between the companies because some big names have these problems and not some smaller ones. I may have thought the producers were not able to keep uncensored assets with them because it's against the law in Japan.
  18. Hello. I've been reading things on fuwanovel for some time, and i decided to create this topic to talk about one fact i know other people are wondering about. Despite many games being released in "uncensored" state by some editors, seeing how badly some parts behind the mosaics looked, the idea emerged that they were redrawn by some companies licensing the games instead of being the original uncensored pictures (despite the western editors claims). For some games in particular, it looks especially bad whereas it looked ok on some other ones. I noticed that this things happened on a lot of games released by the editor Mangagamer. I know that one member of this forum (named Cryingwestern) who has done some work for mangagamer on titles like himawari and tokyo babel, has himself stated that the company was actually not using uncensored assets from the japanese developpers. They were redrawing everything themselves instead. It was on the G-Senjou no Maou: Fan TL vs Sekai TL topic. To quote some of the statements he made: Regarding these informations, it could that the cg in "uncensored" state are actually not existing anyway. If it is true, it is misleading the people expecting to play the "uncensored" games (the word implies it is the original artwork in untouched state). Because this process is just a modification of the state of the cg. The companies should not say they provide the uncensored cg but at least use the term decensored instead.
