    The way this submissiveness fetish has permeated the animal girl trope to the point where it's almost become a standard that catgirls must be pets and not regular human-like creatures with a will of their own is shallow and needs to be fought against! :wafuu:

    In Nekopara, they were a human invention, right? They could have been programmed to enjoy their slave lifestyle

    To stay on topic with the thread, I guess, I agree with Nosebleed's assessment of catgirls being a really undeveloped archetype. There's potential for some actually interesting characters who just happen to also be catgirls, so it is a shame that they're so often just an eroge fetish and nothing more. Nekopara's depiction of them is pretty off-putting in a lot of ways. They're clearly intelligent enough to have conversation with humans, perhaps equivalent in brain function to a human child. Yet they have "owners" and, most interestingly, can be put to work without pay. But hey, it's Nekopara. You're not supposed to think about it. That's not to say it wouldn't be interesting if there were a VN that was supposed to make you think about it.

I've seen dank MLG memes put on just about everything except for our favourite art medium, so we all need to step up! I'll start us off with just a preview of what I envision.     so i just finished this vn and i think i got the good ending <maybe> cuz i didn't find a walkthrough online... it was a lot less enjoyable than i taught.

    It wasn't bad it just... I feel like a horrible person for saying this but the beginning of the vn did not really affect me. Maybe i'm desensitized to this stuff or maybe i just didn't know the character enough to care all that much <cuz in the later parts of the vn the story kinda resonated with me, and woke some feels inside me> it wasn't the horrible feeling i got like for instance when in rewrite

    lucia knocks koharu out and kills everyone in the city, or that horrible fucking end to the story, the supposed "good" ending

    or most of the usami route after

    maou takes over the city

     

    I guess as a nukige it might be good, i won't replay it for additional scenes or anything like that, i don't really feel the need, desire and neither have the bravery to do so, it didn't make me feel nearly as horrible as i taught but i didn't give me anything that will stick in my memory for a long while, it's decent, a good "snack" i suppose

    Presumably, I'm in a cliché happy marriage, where my wife would only be depressed over living instead of me and the child, and I want to save both. In this case, I save the child. Sure, they would only be similarly upset over losing their parents; but I can only hope they've a better hope of getting over it or becoming grateful for my sacrifice over their hopefully longer lifespan.

     

    EDIT: HOLY SHIT the amount of people saying they'd save themselves! xD I'd've thought people on a VN board would be more sensitive and shit. I must praise your honesty though! At least it seems pretty clear we're an open bunch.

    Japanese understand Engrish spoken with a Japanese accent better than they understand proper English. For the bulk of their target audience, getting native English speakers to do the English dialogue would actually make it harder for them to understand. Of course they can/do use Japanese subtitles, but that's not universal and doesn't change the understandability of the spoken dialogue to those who do know some English.

    I'd actually never thought of this. I suppose I was presuming that the intention was always for it to be incomprehensible anyway, but your argument makes sense.

    It might trump 3 and 4. For me personally, 3 is the big one; but that's just personal preference. The combat/dungeon gameplay seems like it may only slightly change things up. Not broken; don't fix it, I suppose. I'm hoping they do something about those social links.

     

    The 'daytime' activities of 3 and 4 were the biggest complaint for me. Social links with anyone bar the main party felt ridiculously hollow. Comparing them to VN routes is like comparing 'Duck Hunt' to 'Call of Duty'. Even links with party members had absolutely no significant effect on the main storyline at all. Fair enough if you want to keep relationships a secret so you can have a harem, but it would be cool to have at least the option of having, for example, a girlfriend/boyfriend in the party which would make at least some token variations of dialogue in important cut-scenes. And why does it make no difference whatsoever to the camaraderie of the team if I'm at level 10 or 0 with everyone? I could be a complete arse who spends all my time presumably wanking in my bedroom during the day and doing 100% of the fighting with no other party members and they'll all still love me at the end of the game.

    I actually did this, seriously.

     

    So yeah. Overall, I'm sceptical. If it just adds about as much to the series after P4 as P4 added after P3 (not much), then I'll be satisfied. If it's a total revamp of the series like P3 was after P2, it will be one of my favourite games ever.

    Why are their names for English-speaking foreigners always so damn weird though?

     

    Patty? Shirley? L Lawliet? The most normal name I've encountered is Chris, from 'Symphonic Rain'; and he's supposed to be Italian, ffs. xD

     

    Also, holy shit, I just found the first ever actual English speaker I've ever seen in an anime.



    Like seriously, is it that hard for these companies to find someone who talks proper English, or does it just not matter to them at all? They always just seem to get their usual VAs to talk some Engrish.
