That style of list is actually more helpful. One can see where the game one is playing or translating ranks. It was good to have at least 100 data points as well. The database is not comprehensive/consistent enough where people have tagged things, like you said. I still end up mainly browsing screenshots on VNDB instead... There is one category called 傾向 (inclination) that might bear closer examination. That first one "okazu" appears on many nukige. (That word means f*p material) The next one may also be helpful "hitasura H-scenes" which means the game is big on H-scenes. There is also a moe tag in there and a "lots of girls" tag you can try.
