  1. We are not sugarcoating it.... you see...that PENIS..is one of the charm...(at least for me) and no i`m not gay..i`m straight as an arrow.

And we wont force you to liking a trap. Again trap is one of those things you need to adapt for a lil bit to love and like.

some people like trap because their cuteness only..just that.

But for me i see trap both sexual way and nonsexual way...i eat them and i love them. Ofc i know IRL trap that cute doesnt exist, however if they do exist, i dont mind to taste em.

Bro i love but the only thing trap's do for me is

what's that a traps coming better buckle my pants btw i love traps because there cute to cute

  2. I think you're taking it a bit too literally there, I was talking about it's popularity compared to other visual novels. I don't think something is 'underrated' when given relatively average to low scores; they most probably deserve it.

Or it may just be absurdly popular and I just don't realize it. Tsumari, I'll tell everyone to read the damn thing.

it's definitely worth the read no doubt

  3. Most definitely Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai.

It's one of the most--if not the most--lively, absurd, and fun visual novel ever.

definitely have to agree with Dim i may have just started reading it but its just to much fun but i had no idea it was considered "underrated"

  4. honestly i can't find anything wrong with VN talk but then again i'm new and all so maybe i just haven't noticed it yet with all that said i think everyone on the Fuwastaff should just keep doin the dew if you know what i mean

  6. Is it the Heaven's Feel arc? -_-

what Decay said about sums it up

I know the first arc made me pretty mad during portions of it, especially with how backwards/misogynistic the protagonist acted towards Saber. People have covered most of the stuff in the 30-50 range, but I'll just second or third Steins;Gate. It's fantastic.

thanks Steins;Gate definitely on my list

  7. Sense of realism is very, very likely not to be what SanadaShadow actually wants to say. We do want VNs, like any other story really, to be able to suspend our disbelief. Stories that are inconsistent or suspisioucly filled with pretty girls that fall in love with you sometimes can't do that.

i see you may be right sorry for misunderstanding its just realism in games and VNs is not my thing maybe that's why i'm not understanding

  8.

Well, most of the time, yes. But with some games, you come to expect a sense of realism, and I'd rather have a story that's realistic, which is why I instantly liked Huniepop, despite the unattractive gameplay.

i see your point but first let me say this i don't think VNs are "game's" so expecting a sense of realism in a game yeah why not if that's what you like then go for it and like sanahtlig said VNs are not books nor games at least to the west so for me at least they don't need realism

  9. And that was what I meant. VNs are supposed to be fantasy, but for one thing, why do most VNs focus on only one gender? For another, why is it that only beautiful girls gather around you? If you've got a harem, there should be at least one not-so-hot girl. And if it's a one-girl-only type of thing, there should be at least one charming-but-not-so-hot girl. And I don't mean when in-game characters look at a really good looking girl and say they're ugly. I mean an actual girl who's not so beautiful, but has a better personality than anyone else.

like i said most people don't read VNs for the realism  ^_^

why would you question beautiful girls gathering around you? they have to be appealing to you so you can enjoy it,what's the point if you don't like the character? ,they are targeted towards male audience i mean come on

but i do think he has a good point

  10. Well, one trope I've noticed that isn't popular with most of my friends, and myself, is that they're not exactly realistic.

And that can be forgiven in some VNs, but when I think of Rewrite, or Cross+Channel, Muv-Luv, Duel Savior, Grisaia, Higurashi, Hoshizora, School Days, Tsukihime, Yandere, Yume Miru Kusuri, and other assorted VNs I haven't yet found the time to put on my VNDB, I think "Where are all the guys? Why am I the only dude in existence?". And although some may or may not have a dude in there, the truth is, it's the games like G-Senjou No Maou and Clannad that have main/semi-main characters that are actually male. And that is one of the reasons why G-SNM is 10/10 in my books. Also why I rate Utawarerumono so highly, because of all its main male characters.

To be honest, Cross+Channel did have a semi-main male character, but... Well, I'd rather not have a spoiler in here.

i don't think most people read VNs for realism but that's just my opinion but i do see what you mean about the whole more women then men thing

  11. Oh god, not live action!  You're giving me flashbacks to the mid-90s.

  13. True, transgender characters can be very sophisticated and it'd be nice to delve into their psychology especially in a visual novel or anime. They're usually there for the sex appeal, I don't really mind that but I'd like to see a properly developed trap as a strong supporting character (or even the main one). In contrast to their image as fanservice, any other plot that deeply explores this premise could really be dark and heavy.

i have yet to read any VNs that have "traps" in it are they not properly developed very well?

  14. I for one would love to see VNs sold in physical form in Western stores :). It is a non-issue for me even if they are censored versions. If you are really keen on the 18+ edition, just make it clear that there is one available in Japanese. Paying for a VN really makes me committed into giving it more patience. World End Economica was an example and I ended up really enjoying that :).

Games like World End Economica and Planetarian would be all right as starting points. They are mostly clean so hopefully newcomers would give them a chance............. It is nice to dream (;w;).

that's nice to hear VNs sold physical id buy that but than again we live in a day an age where everything is digital so going physical may be a step back or two honestly i love to see VNs on steam

  15. It's less "I want visual novels to be popular in the west" and more "I want there to be a viable market for visual novels in the west."  Let's face it:  there is no way that visual novels will ever be anything other than niche.  There is nothing about the medium that lends itself to mainstream acceptance in today's gaming community.  Maybe this would have been different when CRPGs were just starting to hit their stride in terms of maturity, but we've moved on to a point where even CRPGs are mostly action hybrids of some sort.

But just because the medium won't be mainstream doesn't mean that there is no place for visual novels in western market.  Afterall, who could have predicted that games like The Walking Dead could be as successful as they are?  Who could have foreseen Project Eternity being such a big hit on the crowdfunding front?  It isn't popularity that is needed.  It's simply awareness.  Visual novels have always been the sort of thing that I would have loved.  But I didn't know that until I gave Katawa Shoujo a try out of sheer boredom when my internet was out for about 5 months.  How many other people are possibly missing out on incredible narrative experiences just because they don't know that they exist?

So yeah, I want more VNs in the west.  And yeah, I feel that if we have to deal with 17+ versions or All Ages versions being the only ones localized in the short term, it's an acceptable price for the medium to gain a permanent foothold in the long term.  After all, we already have visual novels even on this very site that have content patched back in by fans.  It's not like that practice would suddenly stop just because it's official translations that need to be patched.  And in any case, I feel there is a demand for visual novels in the west, there will be less need to rely on distributions platforms that refuse to host games with adult only content.

well said and yes i agree that there is a demand for VNs in the west and them only being niche sadly your probably right
