As a fellow Australian who's translated I can tell you this is easy to do no matter how good your English is normally and it has nothing to do with being Australian. You look at the original line, you translate it, you get to the next sentence and realise you missed the nuance in one of the words, you go back and change one word. Then you translate the next sentence and realise the tense was wrong. You go back and change the tense of one word and go back to the new sentence and realise you now have to alter something to match the first sentence. Then you change another word and feel like you've done those two sentences and move to the next line to translate. You never go back to see what the whole line ended up looking like so you don't even know you've ended up creating a cryptic crossword.

This largely goes away if you double translate scenes by going back over the entire scene but given how long translation takes in the first place, there's a good chance most translators skip it and leave it for the TLC and editors to fix. No doubt if someone was translating professionally, the approach would be more thorough. I'm certainly embarrassed by some of the shit my editors have had to clean up.

I just learnt this myself. Going back and forth because of little mistakes sometimes makes really easy sentences into convoluted crap. Later you look at the edits from your editor and you go 'what the hell was I doing? That's not even in english.' I am one of those leave-it-to-the-editor people.

  2. I feel like the same things that make a good hero make a good villain. Goodness for goodness sake is fine and all and it can be entertaining it can even be good. However, I feel like a charismatic personality based on real principals makes a hero great. Same for a villain. I like the joker. The joker could be considered evil for evil's sake. However, he does have reason behind what he does. He is insane so morals are not an issue for him. He has a fascination for batman so he wants to kill him but also wants him to live, human. Human villains are great and fun. The best thing about a villain though is not his motivation though. The best thing about a good villain is a good hero. They always seem to come in pairs. A villain is not a villain without a hero.

  3. Most of the time I find the choices to be pretty obvious. You want the nerdy girl? Go to the library. You want the sporty girl go to the park. Stuff like that. Sometimes though you get this. What they heck?! I try to avoid all the other girls and focus only on her and still doesn't work. I did open up some new cgi (I think) so I at least got that.

EDIT I even tried the illogical choices just to make sure. Nothing. I want to cry right now.
