  1. Yeah, I think so, too. That's why I started out calling them "obligate." It's interesting, tho, to see some other viewpoints. The fact that there has been so many responses shows that this is a big part of the Visual Novel experience.
  2. (couldn't help myself.) Lol, you're awesome. +10 Points to Gryffindor
  3. Ah, da. I agree with that. I think we're in the minority when it comes to how most VNers feel, tho.
  4. Hm, interesting. This isn't the first time I've heard this, actually. What do you have in mind when you say "story structure"?

    Hello!

Wow, small world! I found your blog through google a while back, and look--here you are. : )
  6. Welcome : ). I'm still limited to English-translated VNs for now (working through the Kanji, etc.) but I'm interested to watch your blog. Sounds like it could be cool. Have a favorite VN?
  7. Hey, welcome! What was your first Visual Novel? Playing anything right now?
  8. I think that's a common path. I went with Lilly and, wow, it was amazing. How was the Hanako route for the first time?
  9. Wow... FSN, Katawa Shoujo... we walked the same path, friend. Katawa Shoujo is forever and always my #1 (it was my gateway Visual Novel). Let me know how you like it! (And which relationship you chose)
  10. Welcome! Isn't Fate/Stay Night awesome? It was my second visual novel, and wow... it's a total classic. Playing any others right now?
  11. Okay guys, so I need some knowledge. I downloaded the light novels 1-9 + side stories from the link you posted, and as I'm looking through them I'm noticing a) They're in English! b ) They're long! c) They're all signed by Kawahara Now... these were ORIGINALLY Japanese, right? Are these English translations? Didn't the translators put in some sort of signature? Also, are these legit, or are they fanfiction? Sorry for the Qs, but I've never seen a light novel before : )
  12. ... I just finished G Senjoy no Maou. THIS is why I love and play VNs. A beautiful mix of heartbreak and happiness and hope. A little overwhelmed with emotions right now, but happy. Very happy : ).
  13. I'll have to try the light novels, then : ). Yeah, SAO is really awesome. How do you watch it? I use crunchyroll.
  14. I completely agree. I think a video is absolutely necessary. The *possible* VN would be something "additional" for "hands on" learning. We could even do it in story form.
  15. (Image Removed) I have a big announcement, but I'm not going to outright tell you what it is! Click on the above image to download a windows version of the announcement! (Link Removed) 15 minutes to finish (and only if you read slowly!)! Only takes 16 MB! No Install -- Delete When You're Done! Magic, Adventure, Romance (not really)! A big announcement at the end! Please download and play! The original post is preserved here:
  16. Interesting points, all, but here's the point I wanted to get across with my early work: Whatever video comes out of this needs to be easy to understand and accessible. We're talking about people who are brand new to the medium and who--in my opinion--don't need a complete breakdown of the genre. We want to showcase the best and most fun aspects of a handful of games, showcase common elements (humor, characterization, click to continue, etc.), and sell them on trying a classic. Once somebody starts playing a decent VN, they're almost always hooked. Point being, imo we should keep it simple, upbeat, interesting and helpful. Too much info in an introductory film is generally not helpful.
  17. Welcome! : ) Well, you found the place. Even if you're looking for DDLs, I find fuwanovel the best (and best looking, frankly) way to browse for good, translated VNs. What VNs have you played? Have a favorite?
  18. Welcome! I'm also interested in favorite genre, as well what your first/first few VNs were!

    nyaaa~

Welcome : ) Wow! I'll be looking to you for suggestions, then!
  20. A Note Before Reading: I realize this isn't a topic to take lightly, but I'm interested in hearing other people's viewpoints on the subject. Historically they're a major part of the medium, and so I feel they're worthy of some discussion. ********* I'm not a fan of H-Scenes. I love VNs too much to give them up, but when *those* scenes come up I generally click through at high speeds, looking away kind of awkwardly. (Now, I realize that there are two types of H-Scenes: ones intended to be "tasteful", and others in games which are blatantly sex-oriented. All of my comments are directed to the former, as the latter are... well... they are what they are.) Is it because I'm "afraid" of sex or sensuality? No way. I'm happily married and therefore have a healthy context to this stuff. Rather, I feel like H-scenes cheapen the VN experience. I understand that these scenes can represent a culmination of romance between two characters, but I don't understand why they have to be so graphic. I feel like these scenes are included in VNs for the same reason they're included in most AAA movies: the obligate sex-appeal to be used for advertising. That's the short version of my opinion, more or less. I'm interested in hearing what others think. Again, I realize this isn't the easiest topic to discuss, but I'm interested in sounding out.
  21. !!!!!!! Just started final chapter in G-Senjoy no Maou. Freakin' amazing plot twists. Love this VN!
  22. Welcome : ) and good luck with the demon project. I'll send what I have to you. Plus, I just found a hilarious and useful clip from G Senjou no Maou.
  23. Welcome : ) People have been asking this question on these introductions, and I think it's a good one: What brought you to Visual Novels? Which were your first VNs?
