  1. >In the first 60 days after their translation was released, their score dropped an average of 0.146 on VNDB, with Fata Morgana being the blip on the far right that significantly bucked the trend and increased in score. There also seems to be slight correlation with lower-rated VNs on EGS dropping more than higher-rated ones.

I did something similar for eden*, where I tracked how much the score had changed over time. Our results match.

I believe "The high barrier of entry for a Westerner to read an untranslated VN (they have to know Japanese) filters out those who have only a casual interest in the VN. So the pre-translation score is dominated by hard-core fans who are more likely to rate it higher" along with English-only readers being more likely to read a VN they're not really interested in due to lack of compelling content causes that effect.

As for that, I guess it must be because turned out that Hoshimemo here was not the reviewers taste here and therefore it's just a bad luck. Of course review tends to be subjective though, so it's quite debatable whether you could use the score to decide whether you'll buy it or not. In the end, I'll leave the matter to you though whether you'll find that Hoshimemo was good or not.

PS - If you want more positive review, I think there's a lot out there so maybe you could just Google that.

Regardless of bias, it deserved a 1 due to the lack of QC. I hope Irotoridori doesn't turn out as bad, I'd hate if English-only readers were stuck with a subpar version of one of my favorite VNs ever.

It needs to be coupled with Eternal Heart since it's more of a continuation than a fan-disk.

Seconding this, the two true routes feel incomplete without EH.

  4. eden* uses the MUSICA engine (made by minori). There might be a couple tools for it, but I believe they're for the Japanese version.

The English version also has some anti-debugger checks due to the SoftDenchi packer. The Japanese version doesn't have those checks, but you need to bypass two region checks (which isn't too difficult, just nop them).

And Tree of Savior's translation totally blows. I haven't ever actually seen a good crowdsourced translation. Especially not in the VN scene.

You're better off just acknowledging this project as being completely dead and moving on.

The quality of the translated content was pretty good until it was announced that all translators would get guaranteed beta keys for iCBT1. Since beta keys were going for $50 at the time, a lot of "translators" submitted machine translations (and sometimes edited ones) in an attempt to get them.

You're probably 99.99% correct that the project is dead, though.

Might as well leave this here for future people passing through.

  6. Any chance of you releasing the translation on Github or a similar website so that the community could finish editing it? Crowd-sourced translations have worked before, Tree of Savior was mainly translated by volunteers submitting translations through Github.

So just remain patient or learn some basic Japanese and read it, just understanding the game is not that difficult.

Hoshimemo Eternal Heart was one of my primary motivating factors in my decision to begin learning Japanese in late December. It took me about 3 months of studying to build my reading skills to the point where I was able to understand Yume's story, though I obviously had to rely on the texthooker a lot due to an incredible amount of difficult and unknown vocab, with some words I did not even know the English definitions for.
