Sorry to revive this old thread, but I think I've a good excuse to do so ;).

I got the same problem, yet I'm use a PC. I found no information about how to fix this error, so I took it personally. The problem lies in using Windows 10 and compatibility mode doesn't help (EDIT: now I read some other posts it seems it happened in Win7).

Since it seems this issue was left open, I'll post how I fixed it myself in three easy steps:

1) Download the latest MajikoiS patch from the Official site.

2) Extract the contents in a new folder and depending of what you have you might choose:

a) If you installed it from the DVDs, you can just run the update executable you will see after extracting them. But if somehow the updater can't find the path, you can use the tip below.

b) If you are playing from a backup (just copied the whole folder from somewhere else it was stored) you need to copy the contents of the Data folder in the root of MajikoiS directory, you know it is the right place because it will ask you to overwrite some stuff, and say yes to all.

3) Since you used an official patch, the game protection will prevent you to run the game, so you need to search and use AlphaROMdiE. I'm not going into details about it because I'm not even sure I'm allowed to name it . Use your favorite search engine to find more about it.

I don't have Majikoi A, but if it has an update available in its website you can follow the same instructions (on the right directory of course ).
