Not just Japanese, people and their fetishes in general.
People don't seem to get the word "visual" in visual novels. If you just summarize or don't go into detail what happens, might as well get a book or a light novel instead.
Don't get me wrong...this is just my bias in this case since I'm not usually bothered by things like these.
At its core alternative is about true love, mechs, fighting against aliens and all that as I'm sure you're already aware. So I find the tentacle rape thing unnecessary, regardless of whether she was drugged and enjoyed it or not. I'd prefer if these would stay in those nukiges or whatever they're called.
And when I say less details, I meant something like what they did in Heaven's feel. Its not like they showed sakura being pleasured by worms with all the moaning and everything included. I just dont like it in this case since Sumika is my favorite heroine and the previous titles were vanilla either ways.

I think it affected me so much because Sumika is actually my favorite among the heroines(no hate pls
). But yea I'd rather prefer if they didnt give so much detail, just knowing what happened wud have been enough. But thats just my bias since I cant stand stuff like this especially considering the contrast with the first two games. Then again...there's probably as many people who enjoy these and wud be dissapointed otherwise. -

Really sorry about that guys, I didn't notice I forgot to tag it for spoilers. Mentioned it on the title this time around.
First off it'd be good to mark for spoilers, though fortunately I didn't read in-detail on the post too much.
I'm still working slowly through Extra among other things but I've heard Alternative is quite famous for that. Good luck making it to the end, maybe pick up Tsukihime when you're done for something not quite as what-the-fuck-ish.
Yea i can see it firsthand why alternative is so famous. Also I think its about I got around to reading tsukihime. I have it installed and everything but never started it so guess I'll get into it next.
Lol, post Kara no Shoujo me laughs at the "trauma" of MuvLuv Alternative. The fact that the particular scene mentioned in your op was "too much" means that it served its' purpose to provoke an emotional outrage.
And here I was thinking of starting kara no shoujo eventually.
If its even worse than that 'eventually' is gonna be a long time from now.

This is just a random rant from me. Got to the part yesterday where they show alternative world's sumika being raped by BETA. Honestly speaking, the whole thing was traumatic for me. The stuff with marimo-chan really shook me up, mainly when they killed her right after such a tearful reunion. And the beta rape just made things worse. It's not like I haven't seen anything like this before. Sakura suffered in a similar way in heaven's feel after all. But at least they had the decency not to give such vivid descriptions, images and sounds as they did in muv luv. Sumika is honestly my favorite heroine in the trilogy followed by marimo so watching such horrible things happen to them was just plain traumatic. And I have never felt such hatred towards antagonists in any anime, manga or VN. Probably because the beta don't seem like something as simple as evil or have some meaningful greater goal(not that I'd know since I haven't finished the game yet). Extra and Unlimited softened me up too much making it really difficult to handle stuff like these. Don't misunderstand though. I'm not gonna rage quit this game or anything like that. Watching Takeru find his reason for fighting, trying to protect and save the people he loves, accepting sumika regardless of what happened to her and regardless of whether she is human or not, the fights against beta, etc etc. I'm really enjoying all the different elements they incorporated into this VN and so far its definitely one of the best works I've been introduced to. But the tentacle rape scene was just a bit too much. Mainly because of the things the beta did to Sumika and their reasoning behind it. I really don't like tentacle rape in general and these last few scenes made me realize how weak my heart is. Please don't tell I'm the only one who felt traumatized.
P.s. How far am I in the game right now? Currently I'm at the part where the beta are invading japan after takeru and sumika do it.
P.p.s This is just me ranting cuz I don't have anyone to talk to about this.
P.p.p.s Yes I realize this is just fiction and I'm just over exaggerating but I cant really help it. I'm already too deep into this. -
Thanx for all the help guys!! Got my PC back a little while ago and luckily it was nothing too serious. None of my data was deleted so didnt hav to copy over my saves. But this thread was still very helpful for future reference.

there are 2 types of saves in a vn, one that controls the progress and the other one is the save itself the you do, for example when you finish the vn the extra content is "enable" but you dont save to keep it that way, or if you have or haven't read the text already, I'm not 100% sure how it works tho.
I kinda had a feeling about that which is why I asked. I didnt really see anything like that so I wasn't sure. Not that I would really know how a file like that would look.

I believe that the saves contain the CGs also. It might depend of the game but all my saves that I have moved between my laptop and PC contain the CGs
Ah I see. Thanks for the info. Wouldn't want to lose all my hard earned CGs after all.

My pc's been causing a lot of problems lately(luckily its working at this moment) so I wil be sending it over for fixing. Now the problem I have is that there is a good chance that I will lose all my data so I have made backups of all my saves and I was wondering if I will still have all my unlocked CGs after I reinstall all my VNs and copy over my save files. Or is there a seperate file or program where my CGs are located?

Okay so i've got a very noob question. Will I face problems if I run visual novels on a 64-bit system? I mean I don't really understand these things too well and I've been told by my friend that a lot of older softwares dont run on 64-bit. He wouldn't specifically know about VNs so I figured this is the best place to ask. I'm guessing newer ones would work without any problems but I don't know any better. With all the recent games requiring more ram and a 64-bit OS I was considering updating to a new system but I don't really want to rush into things blindly. So what do you guys think?

Managed to find a workaround of sorts. If i right click then cancel, the mouse seems to go back to normal. Sorry for bothering you all with such a silly issue. Maybe its about time I got a new system alltogether.

Since today I have been facing a very bizarre problem with some of my VNs namely Fate hollow ataraxia and g senjou no maou. After I start the game and am at the title screen my mouse goes berserk! Basically when I am at the ticket screen in F/HA and am trying to click continue the pointer somehow flies to erase or another ticket and when i exit the game and click OK it doesn't work and somehow flies to cancel.(Not sure whether fly is the right word). I checked my other VNs and G senjou no maou also has the same problem except in this case the pointer goes berserk and is moving rapidly through all the options(load, save, extra those things basically).
Now I'm not very techy so I have no idea what the problem is although I'm assuming its software related since the mouse itself seems to work just fine. This problem started from today and F/HA was working just fine yesterday. If anyone has any idea what the problem is and if there is a solution please help.

Exactly as the title says I would like suggestions for VN's which are purely romance and have a slice of life setting. It doesn't exactly have to be a dating sim but I'm looking for something that doesn't have fantasy, sci-fi, etc as the central elements of the plot. Examples would be katawa shoujo and mashiro-iro symphony, though i can't play the latter since it doesn't have a translation. Any suggestions are welcome and thank you in advance.

Okay I retract my statement. Her voicing is perfect, its exactly how I imagined it while I was reading the manga.

This whole situation really does suck. I live in a third world country and over here it is absolutely impossible to get various official products, be it anime, video games or even software. In my country everyone who plays pc games or watch anime do it through pirating. In fact most games released for the pc are either downloaded by those who want to play them or they buy it from stores in which people sell these games by downloading it first, storing it in a DVD and selling it for like a dollar(I'm saying dollar since the currency in my country is different). The same goes for anime and manga. Neither are officially sold as they are not brought to my country. In my country there is around 40000 anime fans(this is only counting the number who have declared themselves as otaku by joining anime based groups on facebook) and all of the only way all of these people are able to watch anime is thanks to piracy. So just imagine depriving all these people of their passion. In my case I'm no different. There are various regional constraints that would prevent me from paying to watch my favorite shows legally. Being an otaku I also have a desire to buy volumes of my favorite manga and BD or DVDs of my favorite anime and then have them on display or at least support the creators but that is impossible for me. Besides I don't have anyting like a credit card and methods to make purchases online are extremely limited for me. Basically by the time I have made a purchase, things like shipping costs, customs and subscription fees would cause my total to nearly double the original cost which is obviously ridiculous. Though I might have already mentioned this already if given a reasonable opportunity I would definitely make purchases. After all I own a ps3 and I buy original games for it(btw console games are pretty much the only things which are sold legally although titles are limited to popular games and prices are ridiculous as well). As such I wish japan would at least put some consideration for people who are in a similar situation as me and not make life hell for the thousands of people who have no other means.
P.S. I hope I have not offended anyone or given them the wrong idea as I am simply venting my frustrations here.

Could always go for some older titles like Grandia 2 (which had a PC release) or emulate older console titles - pretty much everything Wii or weaker is able to be emulated nowadays - ironically enough some PS1 games still aren't, even though the Wii is a way more powerful system.
Well i did emulate the persona games, but is it seriously possible to emulate wii games as well?

I've never tried any Persona, but those games interest me a lot. According to you, which one should I try first?
My personal favorite is persona 3.
Between 3 and 4, 3 has a darker story whereas 4 has more comedy and they aren't related except they occur in the same universe and roughly a year apart so i guess its best to play it chronologically.

Man the BD for the persona 3 movie is almost in my hands and i cant wait to start watching it. As an avid fan of the shin megami tensei series (although i only played persona 3,4 and the devil survivor series) this is so exciting. So there any other fans out there? I'm only starting this discussion for just some random rants, opinions and feelings of this series from all other fans out there.
