  1. 20 ARCS!? Goddamn, that's massive. Like, truly massive.
  2. Eh, I'm not infused by characters who act way younger than they should, and Coco's entire character ended up being just that, no twist or backstory to really improve her in the slightest. Not to mention
  3. See now what I mean when I say that everything in Ever17 was done better in Uchikoshi's later work? Also, since this is a discourse about Ever17, I'm just going to put this out, Coco is fucking annoying.
  4. I feel like it's somewhat innacurate to compare the script length of RPG's though, because a lot of lines I'd imagine would be dedicated to things like battle and flavor text.
  5. Is that Dies writeup available anywhere? I'd be interested in reading it sometime.
  6. Probably worth noting that a Japanese guy managed to graduate on a thesis on SubaHibi, and another did so with Eustia.
  7. 20mb? That sort of file size for text sounds downright impossible. Even Rance X isn't that big.
  8. Well, looking through what the writer has done, it's almost exclusively nukige, so I wouldn't imagine a great narrative driven work.
  9. Huh, really? That explains the length thing despite it being rarely discussed. Is the story supposed to be good?
  10. Oh, Rance 10 is supposed to be utterly insane in its length. Though I'm not sure if it's actually got more text than CSG or France Shoujo because a fair amount of time of it is dedicated to gameplay.
  11. Fun fact, I have observed plenty of JoP, and not once have I ever seen anyone bring up France Shoujo. Ever.
  12. Per my memory, the longest VN period is ChuShinGura, which is in the range of 300K lines of text.
  13. Well, when we're talking about endings, that's kinda inevitable. So? Multiple route mysteries have been a major part of the medium since 1996.
  14. So you're upset...because it was designed to be part of the larger plot and not just a self-contained little romance story? I don't quite follow that logic...
  15. You seem to think that a true ending nullifies the effect of the prior routes, which is simply not true.
  16. Saya was short, though. It's only 6-7 hours long, and the two branches are respectively one that sees the story "end" about halfway through, and another which is largely in determining the result of the final fight, and both there have their own claims as being the "true" end.
  17. Well, in Grisaia, all the routes still happen in broad strokes. Heaven's Feel is purpose built to be a subversion of Fate and UBW, so it has to come last. As for G-String, I find the sort of statement odd, because the one real complaint people have with it is that the alternate routes are irrelevant to the point they could've been cut out entirely without issue.
  18. I think the matter comes down to the writer having specific narrative and thematic goals in mind, and specific girls/routes being just contributions and offshoots of those goals. True endings I feel are important because they say what the goals of the works actually are. Also, yeah, true endings in romance games are...weird. Though how many are there that aren't just more accurately summed under a different specification?
  19. I'm beginning to notice a trend of people who go into VNs for romance prefer having open options on endings, while people who go in interested in story care more about true ends. Interesting.
  20. Maybe it works for romance games, but lacking a proper conclusion in a plot-focused work is downright unsatisfying to me...
  21. I'm of the opinion of One True End myself. I simply prefer that moment where I can go "I'm done" with no strings attached.
  22. Kind of self-explanatory, this is. Just wanted to gauge opinions. Maybe give why if you feel like it?
