How do you feel about the art in Shitsuaru? It has a lot of similarities to KimiHime's art, but I think it's good.

I think it looks good. The color palette feel more vibrant, the heavier outlines make both characters and their design stand out more, and the faces don't have (as much of?) whatever it is that I find off-putting about Kimihime's faces. Sprites do seem to be lower resolution than in Kimihime, with some pretty obvious aliasing in some of the VNDB screenshots, but that's a quite minor point for me.

Of-course it does not erase those..however the said questionable aspects also exists in other VNs too.. so just singling out kimihime by pointing out these minor oddities is kinda harsh.. as the same thing can be said about other VNs too...

As for the Character faces..i didnt find anything odd about them.. they are alright.. .. but like i said before i have atm played only 1/4th of the VN so i dunno if there are superbly deformed faces later on.. but so far i am enjoying the read.. and the faces are so far not as off putting as your making them out to be..they are alright.. as far as character faces..go..

I am not trying to single out Kimihime, these are just some of my (subjective) reasons why I am not hot on the art. The same applies to a lot of other VNs.

I'll probably end up buying it eventually, as the premise does seem decently interesting, but right now I am in no hurry to add it to my backlog.

Like if you go specifically digging around for design flaws then you may encounter them in many VN s including some of the newer released title.

Like the way Yumemis leg are folded in the cg below from Planetarium

Or how Soras Palm and fingers look from nine 9 ep 2

So if you go digging around every cg.. you are bound to find some flaws in cgs here and there in almost every VN.... But like you dont buy and read VNs specifically to find design flaws do you?

I honestly didnt even notice anything odd with the Rin cg above until you pointed it out..you need to really look in order to notice those..

That is your subjective opinion..  I can say the same thing regarding the Raging Loop art style.... the character faces look stiff..  and the overall artsyle looks very odd....But that doesn't mean others find it the same way as i do..

You asked if Veshurik saw "anything questionable" in that screenshot, and I pointed out two aspects that I found questionable. Bringing up examples from other VNs does does not erase those. And while the misshapen thumb is a minor oddity in one CG, the odd looking faces are not. Those are common to a lot of the characters and is something that I find pretty off-putting about this particular visual novel.

And yes, saying that something "looks pretty weird", that it "looks kind of odd", or that it is "not particularly exciting" are all obviously subjective statements.

Err.. do you see anything questionable below?..what are they expecting.... The Mona Lisa?

Her right hand looks pretty weird, mainly due to the mini-thumb, and a lot of the faces in this game look kind of odd, hers included.

But everything else (character designs, backgrounds, etc.) looks fine to me, though it is not a particularly exciting art-style.

Like I said, on their Discord channel. The second part, I don’t know. But seeing as the licensor is the JP company itself, it seems irrelevant. There was no deal made with anyone, they licensed their own game in the west, and used Fruitbat as an advisor.

Pardon me, looks like I replied before you ninja-edited in that paragraph.

However, I also overlooked a statement to that effect in the thread that I originally quoted:

I think we have a pretty good understanding of the market, and this is certainly something we already brought up in the first meeting. They had already made all the plans tho and it was clear that there's no 18+ version coming in the immediate future.

We'll discuss it again in the future for sure. And if they're interested in bringing out the sequel too, we'll be able to start with a clean slate and hopefully have more of a say in the release strategy.

So it is quite clear that the discussion to release an all-ages version lies at the feet of Harukaze.
While it is regrettable that FF were not able to persuade Harukaze to release an 18+ version, it is still silly to blame them for a decision made by another company.

They have also stated on several occasions that they were involved with dealing with Harukaze directly, and that they were involved in meetings and the likes. Had this been a company actually willing to push for 18+ releases, it almost certainly would have gone differently. So yes, they are partly to blame.

Where have they stated this and did these interactions take place before or after the licensing deal was already made?

They also handled QA, and were directly involved in making the license deals. They were the ones speaking with Harukaze about the English version. So they absolutely could have changed things like censorship, had they actually tried.

Well even if they only did PR, it still count because PR here is one of publisher's job. Also Fruitbat here is already well known to only release all age VNs and possibly have it as their policy, so it's inevitable that Noraneko need to be censored if Fruitbat was the one who publish it seeing that Fruitbat adhere to their policy. That said even if the one who offer the help first was Fruitbat I'll still say that Harukaze is at fault anyway, because it mean that they should know that Fruitbat only deal with all age release so it mean that Harukaze was already firm with their decision to censored their overseas release of Noraneko.

Fruitbat only signed on as the publisher after Noraneko was announced, and they have been explicit about the fact that they did not license the game, so it is pretty silly to blame them for something they had no part in:

We're a co-publisher, not "the" publisher; since you already know we only became involved at the very end, it should be pretty obvious we're not making any executive decisions regarding the release. Our main role is in handling English user support, promos, storefront negotiations and what have you.

We are running our own QA for the game as part of the service, but can only report issues and actually implementing changes happens between the developer and the localization company they used for the translation. I want to be very clear about that, since our own standards would be considerably higher when it comes to the end quality (we already need to compromise on the level of things which we report due to not having direct freedom to implement them). IMO the translation itself is decent though, above par for a commercial localization and certainly good enough to enjoy the game.

Just to clarify again, we've neither licensed nor localized The Princess, the Stray Cat, and Matters of the Heart. We're handling the English press and user support, and provide additional QA for the game.

Does the game come with unlocked CGs/saves that are deep into the game? That's a pretty amusing mistake IMO and I'm not that surprised that it would happen to a fresh company like NekoNyan, but it can also be pretty but if the game basically downloads 40% completed or something like that.

Extras are not accessible from the main menu, so I presume that the game has not been cleared.
The saves themselves date to May 10th (in-game), which appears to be 5 actionable days of 25 after the prologue, pretty early in the game from what I can tell.

Somebody who has played more of the game can probably pin-point exactly how far into the game this is, but I have only read a little bit of the prologue since I am finishing up another VN before really starting on Funeraba.

  9. Did you buy the Steam version of Fureraba? I can confirm that that version does come with a couple of save files.

It is possible that whoever uploaded the release build simply forgot to remove them.
