Hello! I have decided to reinstall this game after five years but I have come across the same problem OP did what did you mean by "try setting up the game". I have clicked on the setup file inside the virtual disk but it just gives a different error. Unfortunately my original solution didn't work either.

I logged in just to nofiy you guys you just have to delete save files in your c//users//documents//toneworks//hatsukoi//savedata I think you might have figured it out by now but if not it goes like this when you open the game without the patch it creates save files and after you patch those old save files do not recognize the new files and the game cant access to save files so it cant start properly. You just have to delete everything and the game works just fine.
