  1. Not being an ass. Pixels is resolution. The reason you see an x in the resolution is because it's supposed to be multiplied. But showing the dimensions instead of area is more useful information to most people. If you run the game at 480p and someone else runs it at 960p, how is that not 4X the resolution? The person running it at 960p will see an image 4X bigger than the 480p image assuming they both have the same size monitor running the same desktop resolution (i.e. the same ppi). And 1080p (FHD) is 4X the resolution of the PS Vita's 540p. And also, 4K (3840x2160) is 4X the resolution of 1080p (1920x1080). Find me someone who says otherwise. Just do a google image search for images of both resolutions and you'll see for yourself. No one considers resolution as a single dimension. That is why both dimensions are labeled in the resolution. If you were doubling only one dimension, then you'd get double the resolution. If you are doubling both, you are getting 4X the resolution. Just answer this question, is a square that is 2 inches x 2 inches four times bigger than a square that is 1 inch x 1 inch, or is that square only twice as big? Resolution refers to the size of an image measured in pixels. In other words, it's the area of a rectangle. You brought this on when you questioned my math and said it was definitely not 4X. Correcting your correction of me is not being an ass. Being an ass would be making a personal attack on you, which I did not do. You calling me an ass on the other hand...
  2. Let's talk about math for a moment. 1280x960 = 1,228,800 pixels 640x480 = 307,200 pixels 1,228,800 / 307,20 = 4 Well what do you know. When you double both dimensions of a rectangle, due to the square relationship of area, you're multiplying the area (or in this case, resolution) by a factor of 4. If you triple the dimensions, the resulting area/resolution is 9 times greater. If you quadruple the dimensions, the resulting resolution will be 16 times the original. Resolution is just area measured in pixels. The new MG official english release is 4X the resolution of the original with the ugly looking sprites. That is a pure and simple fact, taught in middle school mathematics class.
  3. That is very weird.. I ran the latest version, and it's the same res, 640x480. Did you run the english executable in a sub folder? As for 4x the resolution, https://vndb.org/r41280 Says it runs at 1280x960 which is 4x the resolution of 640x480. The MG version on Steam is 4:3 also btw. Are you sure your 720p game is running at the correct aspect ratio? The Russian game does require the base game also.. Did you complete this version of the game? Could you post a screenshot of it? Here's how it looks for me. Is this the version you are playing? There is no settings menu in this version of the game. The BGM is too loud. The backlog is not very good either. It doesn't tell you who said what. Even the text boxes could be improved. It has the name of who is speaking, but in the beginning before you know the characters well enough to put a name to a face, you won't know which person is Kinzo, since both sprites are on screen at the same time, and they don't darken the one who isn't speaking.
  4. The PS3fication patch that exists looks good, but it runs at 640x480 and there is no settings menu for adjusting audio levels (I normally turn music down and voices up, with SFX being somewhere in between). I figure the PS3fication patch to the MG version should result in a better final product, but who knows how long this will take or how long 5-8 will take to release. The russian PS3 port project is still in alpha stage and only the first few chapters have started. This is very early in development, and it sounds like it will be difficult to get running. I wish someone paid Alchemist for the license to get an official project. Or if Alchemist would release a translation so we can buy it on PS3 in english. All they'd have to do is license the fan translation.
  5. I have a Chuwi Hi8 Pro and it is a great tablet for its price. I paid about $80 for it. It runs at 1920x1200 so it can handle any VN. The screen is very sharp. However, this is a higher resolution than most VNs use. If it's an older VN that runs at 800x600 (or worse, 640x480) it will only take up a small window of your 8" tablet. You can of course expand it to full screen, but then you'll get some scaling and it will not look as sharp. It will even look pixellated in places. That's the tough choice to make. You can go for a 1280x800 or 1280x720 tablet which will not look as sharp but there will be less scaling in your VNs, and no scaling at all if the source is 720p. A keyboard is very convenient btw, if you are running in full screen. In Windowed mode you can use the on screen keyboard though it's still unwieldy. In full screen though, if you're using the touch screen exclusively, you better hope your VN has all the functions on screen as buttons, because if it doesn't you won't have any way to access them. e.g. if there's a skip button on screen, you can skip. But if you have to press CTRL to skip and you don't have a keyboard, that will be hard. I also have a Teclast Air 3G which is a 10" 2048x1536, which is the same as an iPad Air. This was also cheap, but it has the same quirks as the the Chuwi. It is a higher resolution than the VNs which 99% of them are low res. So you either get a small window, or an ugly pixellated/filtered full screen image which is harder to control. And I also have an expensive Surface PRo 4, which.. is even higher resolution than both of these combined. You get the drift. You can get a tablet with a lower resolution to match the VNs but the screen won't look as sharp and you will see the LCD screen dooring effect. If you don't mind that, and all you are doing with it is VN, this might be the best option. Chuwi Hi8 or Vi8 would be the way to go.
  6. I wanted to take the opportunity to ask, what is the best way to experience this game? The Russian PS3 port looks like it's very far away from completion and the barriers to entry are too high. The existing PS3fication patch to the older version of the game looks nice but it runs in 640x480. The MG version runs at 4x the resolution. Should I wait for someone to make a PS3fication patch for the Steam version? I'm sure someone will patch it, but it could take a while because these things always have to go into alpha then beta, and it's a long game. There is still no knowing how long before chapters 5-8 and then the PS3 patch to it will take. While we're at it, can someone tell me what's the best way to play Higurashi? Is the retranslation better than the original translation? If I'm going to use a PS3 patch for that game should I patch the Hou (Steam) version or patch the original? Will it look and read better? The Hou Steam retranslation has only just completed chapter 3 of 8. It could be a very long time before the remaining 5 chapters are finished. Should I just stick to the first translation? Are all the PS3 patches for Higurashi final, or still in progress?
  7. I never watch LPs of any sort. I can't stand commentary or the player reading text out loud. It's like someone else talking through a movie you're trying to watch. Also, I don't like the loss of control. The only way I'll experience a game or novel is first hand. Most youtubers also try to be funny but are not.
  8. Zero Time Dilemma. VN format of predecessors has been converted to cutscene presentation.
  9. Does this require converting from one format to another?
  10. Thank you. Can these 5 star ratings be trusted? Also, will the game download completely up front, or require you to stream it as you go?
  11. Are there any VNs on Android or iOS that don't use the freemium model? i.e. free to download, but it costs energy to play and if you want to play for more than 15 minutes a day you're going to pay up big time. I don't mind paying for the VN up front. In fact I prefer it. I don't care if it's $10, $15, $20 or even $30, as long as it's fully unlocked and they don't ask for more money afterwards. I'm willing to pay money for my games, I just don't like the freemium model because even though it's "free" ironically these games are the most expensive games out there, if you actually choose to spend any money. Anyone know of any? I don't want to use VNDS, I want something officially released. I'll be playing it either on my phone (Android) or iPad. I prefer phone because I always have it with me.
  12. OK, I think I'll wait for Sekai.. Translation is a tough job. Something's always lost in translation. Cultural references unique to one language, idioms, puns, jokes, etc.. these things get converted into something that makes sense in the new language. So when you translate from a second translated language instead of the original language it will be even less pure as more things will have been lost. This would be like chinese whispers or photocopying a photocopy. Hopefully Sekai is basing the translation off the original Japanese. I got too caught up in our conversation. And then she had to leave and it too got awkward to ask. How are you finding it? Does it start off slow like a lot of VNs?
  13. Wha.. the fan translation was from Chinese to English? Was it a good translation?
  14. Yes I think you're right. Thanks for the quick response. Is it good? I just looked at the VNDB page you linked to, and apparently an official release is coming? Should I wait for that, or play the fan translation? I don't mind waiting because I have a backlog of other VNs and video games to play in the meantime. It's just a question of whether the official release will be better or improved in some way. Official release does not say if it will be 18+ or neutered.
  15. I met a girl at a party who happened to like VNs and she told me about one she really liked, but I forgot the title, and sadly I didn't ask her phone number. She says it's about an agreement your guy made with a girl as children to marry when they meet again, just before you leave town. Years later when you return to town to marry her, you find she is missing, and then a series of mysteries begin. She might have mentioned some doppleganger that looks like the girl you're trying to find, but that might have been my imagination or I got mixed up with some other story I've heard about. That might sound a bit vague but hopefully you guys are experienced enough to have played it and know what it is. Thanks.
