  1. I always hope someone does a 2nd installment to Katawa Shoujo but it may never happen im my dreams ;/

I still remember that cruel prank they made with a sequel. Bloody cruel bastards.

Someone may think it strange that a person can be affected by a visual novel, but it's really no different than crying at the end of a movie or being moved by a book. I read The Catcher in the Rye and it literally sent me straight into a horrible depression.

On topic, I've only read Fate/Stay Night since I'm new to VNs.Since reading it and getting more involved with anime and such, I've been the happiest I've been in years. I found the characters of f/sn, and strangely enough the plot, very relateable to my life.

Maybe I should read this Katawa Shoujo since everyone's talking about it.

I 100% agree with you. I don't really get seriously depressed or cry, but I feel for the characters. Just like any book, movie, anime or other such show I watch.

As for reading Katawa Shoujo...read it! Its free, fairly short, and gives you all the feels.

  2. My most emotional VN so far is most likely Katawa Shoujo.

The present circumstances of some of the characters I can relate with rather well, while others I have no personal experience with but can empathise greatly with their circumstances.

I love it so much I have replayed all routes several times. Especially Hanako, as to some extent I have faced the fear of socialisation in my past, and while I don't relate to her exact circumstances, I can relate to her general position quite well.

It was also the my gateway VN, so I guess I might have some bias towards its impact.

  3. I disagree completely, if living to survive was a purpose for living then we would all be better of dead is as I see it as it is pointless. You say that only humans need purpose to live but because we need purpose to live is that lives are worth living, if you don't need a purpose for living and are satisfied with living just to survive then that life is worthless and better not be lived at all. And as technology is what gives human life purpose it is also what gives it worth. And what is wrong with living as a animal is that that live has no worth or purpose and is better not be lived at all. Living only not to die because your instincts tell you to could hardly even be called living.  And while there are indeed many humans who do live as animals only for their instincts those humans are hardly worth being called humans as they live life of an animal and are definitely below humans who's lives have purpose and worth as lives without purpose are worthless therefore they themselves are worthless livestock.

Humans who aren't your acceptable view as humans are considered worthless. That is possibly the worst kind of narrow thinking I have heard.

Why is your life so purposeful? Why are you worth so much? Because you grew up on the achievements of others and at a time and standing that some don't? Hell to the no.

I admit we are a dominant species in the world. I admit technology have made us into animals who have a significant edge over every other animal. I admit that with the choice I probably would save a human over an animal. But I have never perceived animal life or someone of less intelligence as worthless.

You seem to attach this silly stigma of some sort of wrong in animal life in comparison to human life. Instinct is animalistic...instinct is human; humans are bloody animals. We live to live. Meaning is important for humans because our brains are as weak as they are strong. It is merely another necessity in our struggle to live.

  4. Then what is stooping you? If you seriously think that it would be better to live in the woods you could easily trow away all your stuff go into a woods and live as an animal.

And as what is so terrible about living as an animal I don't even know where to start explaining it, if you live as an animal you could as well not live at all as that life doesn't have any worth, you just live  in order to not die yet, what's the point in living just to survive? You have nothing in that life, it would be better to to die then to live that kind of life. No knowledge, no entertainment, simply nothing, not to mention that you wouldn't even live as long as you do now. Technology is what gives live a worth, a purpose.

True I can't really see your post as anything else but trolling.

  5. Now that I've read the whole article, I'll give my views ....

First of all I'd like to ask whether you have seen the movies of TTGL. They are mostly compilations but have many 'parallel universe' scenes,ie., scenes which could have happened instead of the way it happened in the anime. I found the anime scenes better generally, but the ending of the movie is as good as the one in anime which is quite a big feat.

In the article you said that Kamina is courage incarnate, but it isn't so. Infact Kamina is said to have one of the lowest spiral energies in Dai-Gurren Brigade(gainax confirmed this), Kamina actually doesn't have true 'fighting spirit'. If you see episode 2, you can actually see Kamina's true nature when he is trying to pilot Gurren. He mentions so himself when talking to Yoko about the destruction of his old village and how he met Simon, he states that he was 'just acting tough'. Kamina actually isn't courageous and brave as he shows himself to be, it's just a facade.

I think that Kamina did not have this facade prior to that incident. He was simply afraid of dying and being driven to extremes he underwent a change into the brave Kamina we know. He was able keep this facade due to Simon who kept on drilling and was Kamina's hope. Kamina and Simon both depended on each other to function. Simon could overcome his fears and Kamina could remain brave. Thats why Kamina says that believing in Simon is the same as believing in himself. Kamina saw this and knew that Simon depends on him so he wanted to help Simon grow and become independent.

As for the opening scene of the anime which is quite controversial, there are many theories one of which is that it was a parallel universe. One which might been a 'bad end' as you said. There is also another theory -

http://lincolnbot2000.tumblr.com/post/38778031059/the-boota-theory-hidden-plot-in-gurren-lagann . I do prefer this one more than the 'bad end' one, so I thought I'd share it.

I noticed that you have said 'you' in the sense that I wrote the article. To clarify, this was someone else's work that I found and found interesting.

As for your question, I have not watched the movies. I'll be sure to give them a look soon though.

  6. I hate game theory. He presents it as fact when clearly most of it is made up nonsense. Sadly I don't know what he says in this video as I refuse to give him a click.

He essentially just talks about the security of our technology and the rate in which it is growing, which he summaries the security to be beyond terrible. He refers to various hacking methods used in Watch Dogs and compares them to the possibilities, and allegedly, real life instances where similar events have happened.

In one instance he explains wireless pacemakers and how easy it is for hackers to interfere and possibly kill those who use them, providing demonstrations in which an actual person was able to hack a pacemaker to send volts through it. He also references self replicating viruses and more specially a program named agent.btz, in which took the American government 14(?) months to eliminate it.

In regards to your dislike to his channel, I personally enjoy it. I do, however, not indicate his opinions as fact, but rather an interesting theory in which I either agree or disagree with. But to each his own I suppose.

  7. Welcome to fuwa.

By raid call do you mean a voice or text chat group? We do have a teamspeak and skype group that we use.

For the skype just add me, (my skype info is on my profile) and I'll add you to the group.

For the teamspeak, I can't exactly recall the information for it. I'm sure someone else will know.

  8. Are you serious or just trolling?

But let's say I am serious. I'm totally serious. I think it's dumb that you value your technology that much.

Really dumb. we should all go live in the woods

Well I value technology that much. Without certain drugs, in which I still need to this very day, I would be either blind, deaf or dead. There is a certain condition I have had in the past that would have basically mutilated my eyeballs, along with my asthma which has left me to the point of near death.

As much as I find some technological advances distasteful, I do find the statement, "We should all go live in the woods" quite over the top. No amount of natural non-technologically augmented drugs would have saved me from these situations.

  9. Will technology blast forward int he future? Yes. Will people take advantage of this to cause chaos through hacking? Yes. Can we really do much to stop it? In my opinion, no.

Technology will blast forward regardless of how dangerous it is, but like others have said: pros > cons.

Technology warfare is merely another way in which humans will create more mayhem, but technology itself is also another way in which we can create great things.

However I do personally believe that technology needs to slow down to a degree, we churn out more pointless things than we need, but this may just be part of the human condition so my belief is a moot point.

  10.

I'm going to address many of you on this, since I have unique views on it apparently.

This is blatantly incorrect.  This has strongly impacted the relief effort, increasing the mistrust of the natives and making prevention methods harder.  I mean, they already see these people coming in wearing hazmat suits, sealing their loved ones in plastic bags and carting them off, spraying chemicals all over their homes, and preventing them from preforming their normal burial rituals so they think their loved one's death is comprised.  They don't need anything else to make them distrust the relief effort, they already distrust it enough.  I've discussed the issue with some of my professors and they've come to the same conclusion.  I personally find it absolutely fascinating how some meme can impact the relief effort of a major epidemic on the other side of the world and would like to study this issue more but that's probably just me.

I agree with Zaka, it was funny on the outset.  This article discusses the matter.  Creating it was fine, posting it on Nairaland and claiming its a "demon sent by a new racist cult in Europe and in the USA" is way over the line.

Now, I will address this and all the other posts that claim they cannot understand how anyone would create this:

You say there are certain things that should never be joked about.   I have to disagree.  There is a fine line of what is acceptable and what is not and this varies greatly from person to person.  Everyone has their own idea of what is acceptable and what isn't.  As long as no harm is brought to others, there is no reason why things should or shouldn't be joked about.  In this case, there was definite harm in the use, so I would agree that this has gone way to far. If you don't believe me, I have a question for you.  How many of you have played Katawa Shoujo?  From the screenshots I have seen, I find this game to be horribly offensive and would never consider playing it.  You could argue the game does not deal with people dying, and therefore is different.  Again, that's your value difference speaking.  Some people would consider those conditions just as bad as death if not worse, so it can be considered equally offensive as Ebloa-chan.

On that note, I have another point.  What is humor in it's truest sense and what are its uses?  Humor is used to facilitate socialization but it can also be seen as being used as a coping measure for stress.  Not everyone does this I'm sure, but I tend to make jokes, and mock on the ridiculousness of a situation when I'm under a lot of pressure.  Studies have also shown that black humor tends to be most common in higher-stressed specialties especially (you guessed it) physicians.  Those in the health-care professions are notorious for having some of the darkest senses of humor and making fun of things that many others would consider "unacceptable", and this is not a bad thing.  Some studies have found that black humor can benefit clinicians and patients by reducing tension and allowing the clinician to focus on the situation at hand.  So no, I don't think its fair to say there are things you should never joke about.

Now relating this to the matter at hand, as far as I know, we don't know who actually created this image.  I could have been someone in the U.S. who has no connection, but it could have been someone in Africa who was nervous when they saw the disease spreading, or someone in the relief effort (or who has family in the relief effort who was worried about them).  Until we know that individuals circumstances I don't think it's far to make value judgement (if then you really can't because you don't know their perspective).  However, the person who posted it on the site and spread fear was definitely in the wrong.   But again, we don't know their conditions either.  This is why morals are tricky business.

Perhaps my absolution of 'never should  be joked on'  was too extreme.

I understand the need for black humour in certain situations and it being a viable and, depending on the person, effective use of relieving stress, tension, and other effects from dark situations. I do it myself.

However I believe there a certain mediums people should not use for controversial dark humour, particularly the use of the public, or more specifically the internet. It is too public and not suitable for such controversial 'jokes' for the very reason it is being discussed right now: being get offended.

Perhaps my wording of my opinion did not convey my entire opinion on the matter of joking on suffering, but my outrage are to that of people who joke lightly on these matters and are not involved in the crisis. The picture itself is not my main focus of rage, but rather the response to it, particularly from 4chan. Because they are not making stress-reducing jokes, they are not in involved in the horror that comes with disease. They are just showing a shocking lack of empathy for those who are involved.

I may not be personally involved with Ebola, but I sure as hell am not so cold hearted to be so cruel for no reason other than out of pure malice.

Tl;dr: It is the idiocy of the response from 4chan and their ilk that angers me, not the picture they responded to.

Also I am curious as to why you find Katawa Shoujo so offensive, if you don't mind me asking.

  11. Like others have stated it is a joke in poor taste. Jokes are acceptable within a relative time difference and seriousness of an event. Widespread suffering, and current events such as the Ebola crisis should never be joked on. It is a terrifying and extremely painful disease that is running rampant and I hope to god is doesn't evolve to be airborne, which is a discussion I had with various people recently.

While I may make distasteful jokes on occasion without thinking of what I'm saying, creating images like this requires more than just a fleeting thought. I would also think that things like Ebola, Cancer, Malaria and AIDS, would be an obvious taboo when making jokes, but my faith in some people's ability to think seems to be too high.

To be frank, this makes me ridiculously angry and disgusted.

  12. Well I just finished Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

It was unbelievably simplistic yet somehow 'hid' a rather shocking complexity underneath it all while still retaining obvious symbolism...it is too glorious for words.

But if you want this glorious-ness captured in words there is this rather in-depth article about it that made me love the series even more. It's quite a read and contains MASSIVE SPOILERS so if you have watched the anime give this a look if you like.

Happy 2000th post! Happy Moderators' Appreciation Day!

Oh my bloody god that Levi picture is gold. I demand you print an A3 copy, frame it, and mount it on your wall.

  14. Most I can think of with my limited VN knowledge is Kamidori Alchemy Meister.

    https://fuwanovel.net/novels/kamidori-alchemy-meister

    http://vndb.org/v5652

It is very different from the Ocarina Of Time adventure type. It is more of a dungeon crawler, linear questing type game.

Very retro in the sense that it is similar to the older Zelda games.

But in all it seems to fit the 'adventurer' type theme you are searching for.

  15. 1. Smiling Jack from VTMB - Why? Well...uh...he's Jack, man. Also he is unbelievably violent and badass. Also I'm a sucker for characters who can so efficiently paint a perfect picture of psychotic violence in a single sentence.

    200px-Smiling_jack_desing.jpg

    2. Suoh Mikoto from K - Calm, collected, yet passionate. He is immensely powerful, cares endlessly for those who have no place to belong to, he isn't petty, yet he is passionate (in a subtle way). Besides, he is my favourite male character within my top anime.

    189718.jpg

    3. Takigawa Yoshino from Zetsuen Tempest - He doesn't easily show his true emotions and has interesting secrets to tell and actions to take. Can't go into too much detail for Spoiler reasons and simply can't be bothered to say everything I love about his character.

    223525.jpg

My favourite characters are in constant flux, but I can say these three have been the contenders for quite some time. Also, I'm probably forgetting a few of my favourites so these may not be 100% accurate, but off the top of my head the top three it's these guys.

  16. I don't drink coffee regularly, usually I only drink it after a meal at a restaurant or when I'm offered one. But when I do drink a coffee I prefer a cappuccino without any added sugar.

But if there is one thing that bugs me about coffee is when I see people add a ridiculous amount of sugar. (Which I see almost everyday after school.)

My peers add about 6-8 sachets of sugar into their coffee. Each sachet probably contains about 3 spoonfuls of sugar, so they are essentially adding 18-24 spoonfuls of sugar. It's a pet peeve of mine.

It baffles me why people wish to drink sugar with coffee, rather than coffee with some sugar.

I'm done. I'm finished. NO MORE RANTING! IT'S OVER. RANT BLOODY COMPLETE!!!!
