  1. I never read more than 1 VN at once. It kinda ruins my experience of immersion with VN if I try to follow two different stories. However, if I don't feel like finishing VN I will just skip it for a better time and start a new one. (Examples: Chaos;Head, Clannad. Seriously, watching anime adaptation before knowing about VN kinda ruins everything.) The only exception would be RPG VNs. I am fine with reading VN and playing RPG one at the same time.

  2.

just a little bit information or asking with the patch 1.2 for eng does it change the fight system? i uninstall the game yesterday and install back the game so i can use eng patch v1.2 the my tiffur and collesus that can attack the enemy from 2nd and 3rd row yesterday using patch 1.0 can't attack anymore and go defend. when i get side attack my MC which usually at front become 2nd row and can't attack using slash, etc only can use range attack. is that the same with everyone or only me?

That's how it's supposed to be. Melee chars can hit only from the front row. It also kinda explains why the early game sucked so hard in previous patch.

On a side note, does anyone have a 100% cg/scene completion save? I am missing 3 book and Loum scene, and I don't feel like grinding it.

Edit: Never mind, found it. I think I am satisfied with just 2 playthroughs.

  3. Does it say how many times you have to kill the Warrior / Mage / Thief before you can recruit them? Ive been farming kills for awhile and still not showing up recruitable, or does that only happen after the Prison opens up?

Is there only 1 ending? Im still missing quite a few things from my first game, but was curious if there was more endings.

NG+ Lets you carry over 5-9 Minions, not exactly sure what you have to do to increase it to 6/7/8/9 tho. i think beat the dragon nest or something for one of them.

No, it doesn't say, just keep grinding. I am sure that it happens after you get the Prison.

There is a single ending only.

  4. It is possible to recruit the human female enemies. The Japanese FAQ had said it was only the Warrior, Mage, and Thief classes but I'm starting to think that FAQ is a bit incomplete. Thanks for mentioning that!

It's definitely incompete. I have managed to recruit Miko, Battle Maid, and Rune Knight (M Knight?) as well.

  5. As a rpg gamer, you never get enough grinding, lol. Finished all 3 routes in Yumina The Ethereal. Taking a break from it before tackling side story and Super Hard difficulty for True Ending.

Started and finished Bunny Black in 2 days. Currently on my 2nd playthrough. The game is not really challenging although I died a few times in the beginning before I figure out what to do. However, I must admit that playing 2 grinding VNs at the same time is a bad way to play efficiently.

  6. I am not sure if I should regret the fact that I included strategy/rpg tag in my VN search. Currently grinding in Yumina the Ethereal. Overall, it's quite a decent VN with  an amusing change of plot's scale. This game can be a bit on a grindy side (stupid dungeon quests and have to clear Normal, Hard, Super Hard for true route), but I'm still enjoying it.

Also, at the same time I finished playing Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters (PS Vita). For a Vita game I guess it's decent, but if I judge it as VN, the story seems to be a bit short and lacking. Also, the friendship system in this game is a mess. It takes a lot of efforts to actually get the ending that you desired.

  7. First of all, big thanks for your work! I really enjoyed this VN with your translation. After I found out that the sequel has no active translation project I was quite depressed. However, now I am really happy to hear that you have decided to work on Majikoi s as well. Looking forward to see the results of your work!

  8. Just finished Higurashi Question Arcs. I really regret that I have watched anime before playing VN. After playing Umineko, you kinda start to think and analyze Higurashi Arcs as "gameboards" and mystery novel rather just watch how the plot develops in anime. What a waste, sigh. Gonna go straight for Answer Arcs.

  9. Just read through the end of Umineko's 6th chapter.

    Holy shit.

My head was boiling and I had a huge grin plastered on my face the whole time.

It's really impressive how much everything makes sense in that story since chapter 5 and 6.

Keep reading. Things get even more interesting till the end.

Umineko was probably the longest VN that I ever read, but it was well worth it. Epic.

After playing Umineko, you really start to look at Higurashi story from the different perspective though I have watched its anime adaptation.

  10. THESE SPOILERS ARE PURE TORTURE

MUST NOT CLICK UNTIL I FINSH MUV-LUV

Yeap, don't spoil the best part of Muv-Luv and experience it for yourself.

Started playing first arc of Higurashi. What a shame that there is no voice patch for PC version. I guess I should be glad that we have PS2 sprites at least.

  11. Started playing Chaos;Head, but got stuck at closer to the end. For some reasons, I just can't force myself to finish it. As a result, I've decided to leave it for better time.

Started playing Clannad and cleared all routes leaving Nagisa's route for the end, but guess what. I got stuck there too since I couldn't force myself to reread the general route which was repeated in some routes and I didn't want to skip it since I won't get full impressions from Nagisa's route. Status: left for better time.

However, I have finished Tomoyo After: It's a Wonderful Life before Nagisa's route. In general, the plot wasn't too bad for a side story, but...that end. I can see why some people don't like it. Personally, I accepted the end as it is, and it didn't really touch me at first. Then next morning I read the manga that was based on this VN and, well, my tears were flowing at the end.

This brings me to the current point. Since it was recommended by some people, I've decided to tackle the Muv-Luv Saga starting from Extra.

Muv-Luv Extra - quite generic harem and comedy. I can see why people call it bad, but since I wasn't expecting to see any action and whatever Muv-Luv series were praised for, I enjoyed it to some extent.

Muv-Luv Unlimited - this is where things start get interesting. After Extra, seeing familiar characters but in a totally different plot and setting gave me fresh impressions. Overall, I didn't really have any big complaints with this VN since I knew that Alternative is where real thing starts. As a story on its own, it was good enough for me.

Muv-Luv Alternative - Just finished yesterday. It made me an official fanboy of Muv-Luv series for now. I didn't cry throughout the whole VN, but everything was damn good. I didn't regret spending time on reading all 3 VN's. After some thinking, I consider the Muv-Luv saga to be epic.

  12. My first experience with VNs started with Saya no Uta (Yeap, yeap, straight to the creepy stuff). My friend who introduced me to anime persuaded me to try to play this VN as he found it to be amazing. As a result, my list of watched anime and cleared VNs is much much bigger than of my friend right now. xD

  13. I just started Swang Song :D

Played Chaos;Heads two months ago and I have to say that the Visual Novel is nothing like the Anime. It left me shocked.

Be aware of some disturbing scenes in Swan Song though I didn't particularly feel anything special about that.  ;)

I have still yet to see the endings in Chaos;Head. If it's totally different from anime I would acknowledge it to be a great VN.

  14. Just finished Swan Song on weekends. The plot wasn't dark as I expected it to be, but the scale was, indeed, different.

Currently playing Chaos;Head. Since the last time I watched its anime adaptation I have already forgotten most of all details. As a result, I am able to enjoy it more or less. With the ability to read the main character thoughts, he doesn't annoy me as mush as it was in anime.

  15. Thanks you for your welcome guys.  :)

Yep, just go with whatever you're in the mood for. The adaption for Little Busters wasn't bad, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as it could have been.

Since everyone else has already suggested some good titles, I'll just make a recommendation for a weird one like Mankai Chirarism Dai 1 Wa. You can finish in less than 15 minutes, and it's the most awkward visual novel I've ever read.

Thanks for the suggestion. That sounds funny. I will give it a try later.  :D

Speaking about Ever 17, I know that it's quite a well-known VN, but what about Remember 11 and Never 7?

  16. Hey, welcome to fuwa! I hope that you enjoy your stay here. :D

I think reading Rewrite is a good choice for a Key visual novel but even if you have seen the anime adaptation I would still recommend Little Busters. The anime wasn't bad or anything it just didn't do the visual novel the justice it deserved.

I don't really have anything against its anime adaptation. I am looking forward to play Little Busters, but just not right now. I wanted to spice up my VN adventure so I am playing Swan Song right now.  :)

  17.

It takes a while to get to the serious part though so it might not be your thing right off the bat. oh and if you want any more ever 17 gets serious really quickly.

It's fine as long as the whole story is not about your daily life. I will keep your suggestion in mind.

Damn, lad, you've been everywhere. Welcome to the forums. Try not to enjoy yourself too much.

Haha, you're right. I have been having trouble with balancing my daily routines and reading visual novels.

    Welcome to fuwanovel!

Well, nearly 90% of all visual novels are slice of life/high-school centric, so that's gonna be inevitable.

Anyway, how about Steins;Gate? See if nitroplus games are up your alley.

It's true that almost most of visual novels are like that. However, consider the example of Clannad and G-Senjou no Maou. Both of them have school and daily life setting, but you can't really that they are the same. That's what I am looking for. I am interested in reading a novel which may have high school and daily life setting, but its story does not focus on your ordinary life problems.

Unfortunately, I have already read Steins;Gate, but you reminded me that I should have read Chaos;Head as well.

Thanks for your welcome everyone again! :)

  18. Yeah, Higurashi is fully translated and has been for quite a while, you must have missed it.

And yet you were fine with Taichi from Cross Channel? :P Also if you've watched the anime adaptations of either Tsukihime or Fate/Stay Night - pretend you didn't. They are terrible.

I should check that for sure. Umineko was really a great and long VN. After I finished it, I was actually depressed that it was the end.  :D

Well, after Makoto (School Days) and Shinji-kun (Evangelion), I am fine with almost anything ;) , but I have a little tolerance with those kind of characters.

who have naive or idealistic point of view.

Yeah, I heard that anime adaptations were terrible. Well, I guess one day I will try to read them.

  19. Thanks for your welcome, everyone.

Welcome to the party! :D Uhh most of the serious novels I've read have a softer beginning. If you don't mind those theres always the Muv Luv series. Anything by key is also a bit like that.

I don't mind VNs with soft beginnings. I will try to read Muv Luv series later. Thanks for suggestion.

Welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy your stay!

I too am a Russian living in America (the continent) and majoring in Computer Science. :D

You seem to have not read anything by Key. You should try Clannad, Little Busters or Rewrite. You've also read Umineko but not Higurashi, you should try that too. Finally, Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night will probably be up your alley.

    Have a moe:

    nhj0.png

Indeed, I didn't read anything by Key yet. I am planning to read those in the future, but not now because I am looking for something that is not primarily focused on "drama/life harships" in "daily life/school" setting. I might try Rewrite, but Clannad and Little Busters certainly should be left for the better moment since I have already watched their anime adaptation. About Higurashi, do all episodes have English translation? Last time I checked I think there wasn't.

Funny enough, but I feel reluctant to start reading Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night since I am not particularly a big fan of these series. I actually feel very annoyed about the main character in Fate/Stay Night. Forgive me for this.  :P

I am thinking to start reading Swan Song, but I am still open to any suggestions. Also, something that is similar to G-senjou no Maou, Sharin no Kuni, Grisaya no Kajitsu is appreciated too.

  20. Hello everyone,

Since I have been playing VNs and reading forums for while I have decided to introduce myself. Although I am a type of person who prefers to read rather than to post  I thought it will be a good idea.

First of all, you can call me by my nickname (username) which I made up for myself, and I actually use it everywhere now. I have been watching anime for about 3-4 years, I think. Thanks to my friend who introduced me to Code Geass, I was completely engrossed in watching anime from that point of time. Then, in December of last year, I was advised to try Saya no Uta (despite you know what, I still enjoyed the story. No, no, I am not a type of person who enjoys these things...At least I hope so.) which was my first VN. That's how my journey into VN world began. I have been enjoying quite a few VNs (you can see my list), and I hope I will enjoy my stay here with all of you guys as well.

I just finished My Girlfriend is President. I wonder which VN I should read next. I would prefer something serious for this time since I rotate my reading list between serious and "light" VNs to keep things exciting. For example, I read My Girfriend is President after I finished with Ayakashibito which stirred up my emotions a little bit. Any suggestions are welcome.

P.S. Regarding the topic title, here's the twist of the plot. By nationality, I am Vietnamese, but I was born in Russia so I studied there for my high school. Yes, I can read/write/speak in Russian as a native speaker. Then I went to the USA for college. Right now I am a second-year college student, and my major is computer science.

  21. Weird, I could have sworn I tried all choices (and definitely got all endings...?), but I just completed the game and have a whole ton of CGs missing too.

Any idea what 4th page, 1st row, 3rd column is?  then, somehow i'm missing 6th page 3rd row 5th column and the ENTIRE 4th row....

Maybe one of my endings didn't save CGs properly when I quit or something?
