The first place to look if you plan to make a VN would be Ren'Py. With your goal to make games other than just VNs though it might also be worth looking at other programming languages such as java. I'm not too sure on further specifics though.

My first VN was a short one I found on google chrome so I didn't even start getting into them thinking it was japanese related or anything. I just thought it was a unique yet very interesting way of telling a story with the inclusion of pictures and music.

This is an amazing feat indeed! 

Don't get me wrong. My heart died during a certain scene with the sunflowers but no tears came out. Only in VNs have japanese media caused me to cry. :| Not sure what that makes me though.

[[SOLVED] Rewrite Accidental Restart and Gallery Dissapearing Error]

yeah i have found that rewrite loads its save data from the documents folder and moving it restarts the game in a sense as it can't find the data. you can indeed move it back and you should get the gallery back.

 

This is all stuff I have found out by tampering with the save data a while back.

A lot of it is opinion based so I can't say much but I always thought the name for the protagonist of Grisaia was Yuuji instead of Yuugi. Also adding psychological might be a good idea with grisaia.

The other three things I would worry about is getting a good power supply and a graphics card. Graphics card depends if you're planning to game often or not and stuff like that.

I haven't cried to an anime before but I am still looking for one (I will find an anime that makes me cry... someday). Myself;yourself has one very heartbreaking scene. Tokyo Magnitude 8 is also very tear jerky. Other than those people have mentioned most of them.
