  1. A while back I was following TOM's Nanoha works, and even bought a paper doujinshi of his (Another Crisis #5), as well as purchased all of Another Crisis. Over time, I moved on to other things, and after a while, I decided to check back

on his web page. All I got was a 404. His circle pages on Gyutto, Melonbooks, and DLSite and all of his works can no longer be found. I don't know if any of his listings on Toranoana, the only store still listing his works, can be purchased.

A shame, as I would have really liked to read his Unveil and Dgness Archive series.

  2. KASASAGI NO MEMORIA/鵲のメモリア

An alternate universe/continuity where things go off the rails from the main storyline. Kogasaka You happens upon an eccentric person, one whose wisdom was far beyond their years. He met this person while in the city, and was curious to know just how he manages to be so peaceful even in the worst of times. Curiosity turned to friendship, and he is gradually introduced to the radical principles of a curious book over a period of five years.

While this curious book was still being translated into Japanese, that proved to be no obstacle, as his friend, whom he called Aki (松浦 真明), knew it from a previous lifetime, and presented its teachings through dozens of notes compiled from both his previous and current lifetime. As You began to peruse his friend's notes and practice this book's particular thought system, he began having horrible nightmares about a girl who forcefully took away something important to him. He wasn't sure if she was the girl from the lookout, since they looked almost identical, but her manner of dress suggested she was from an earlier time period. Stunned by these seemingly random nightmares, he turned to his new friend for advice. His friend's response: “This is your chance. This is what you wanted. You remember this person. Forgive her. Only then will you remember everything.”

Jolted by this sudden revelation, and unsure of just 'what' he would remember, You was deeply terrified. The nightmares continued their relentless assault. They started consuming his waking thoughts. His 'nightmare' seemed to grow in equal measure to his deepening sense of peace with each passing day. He didn't know if he could continue his study of the book. He was sure he never wanted this. He couldn't see "her" now, not like this. Yet, even in the trials each new nightmare brought to his awareness, he knew he had made a critical choice. He wanted to see "her" no matter what.

His way was decided; there was no turning back for him. Accepting this, You calmly strode into his valley of death...

Bah, customizing links is hairy in this forum...

  3. Well, looks like your suggestion worked brilliantly :)

As for calling within python, I never did figure out how to call the specific function I wanted, but at least your hint will help me should I ever decide to return to that method.

But, all in all, thanks immensely for the help! :)

  4.

If you haven't tried it yet, see if nvsg_converter (from the same toolset as bin_archiver) does what you need.
That tool requires you to specify the X/Y positions on the command line, rather than stashing it in a file.

I tried using that before, but couldn't figure out some of the variables and what they did.

However, after a bit more digging, this is what I've inferred so far:

    nvsg_converter.convert_from_png("inputpng","outputimage",imagecount,x-coord,y-coord)

Where only the first two arg inputs are strings, imagecount determines the nvsg format, and the x-and y-coords reference the location of the bottom-left pixel of the image in relation to the game window.

I don't know what values imagecount can take on, or what those values mean in relation to FVP, so a hint would be helpful here.

Right now I'm stuck on this error. Using Pillow 2.6.0 x64 (before toString() was deprecated).

  5. Success! :D

    PTD9LfB.png

What I did was use akerou's fvp toolset, compiled with qt, and decoded the original graph.bin. Then, I converted those .bmps I made to png (Photoshop's automation saves the day!) and set fvp to convert them back.

Curiously, when these new files were copied to the replacement graph folder as per Method #3, they defaulted to x0 y0. However, when adding them to another copy of the graph folder (converted using bin_archiver.py),

and after appending their correct numbers (ex. 0882_eyecatch_0705), I repacked this folder, again using bin_archiver. I copied this new bin over to my game directory, and lo and behold, the replacement files had their original placement!

Now, if there's a way to decode/encode the pos.dat file itself to allow editing the image coords to fix their alignment...

  6. You can try these tools though not sure if it will work (you'll need to link a path through cmd to use these as well I believe).

I believe AE has a converter and packer. Haven't used it yet though. So whether it works or not, i don't have a clue.

I tried running bin_archiver through cmd, imported the module, and ran "bin_archiver -c graph graph.bin" (usage instructions were the format "bin-archiver.py folder output.bin")

The folder was in the same directory as the script, and the same name as given in the above command. I got:

    File "<stdin>", line 1
       bin_archiver -c graph graph.bin

       bin_archiver -c graph graph.bin

                                                  ^

    SyntaxError: invalid syntax

    No dice :(

And is AE the same as Akerou? If so, he's planning to add a repacker, though I don't know when.

  7. Hi,

I was planning on making edits to the files eyecatch_0705 to eyecatch_spring in hoshimemo to include the year as well as the date,

and even used the exact font (via test drive, no way am I spending $500 on one font), correct format (24BMP with alpha) and everything, and discovered crass can't repack them into bins. :(

Unfortunately, repacking tools rest on the EH project, so I'm left with nothing to work with, unless by some miracle I can work out/find a method for doing so, or someone points me in the right direction.

  8. "Whoa, what happened to you? Did Mare make you forget again?"

    Not exactly, but here's the short of it;

    • Not doing too well in some classes, felt like Zenya for a good 6 months.
    • Discovered during that time one of my favorite projects had been 'butchered' by Nils Frahm, felt like my mind was in permanent 'kusottare'. Yeah I know it sounds silly, but that's how it was for me.
    • After a few months, I picked up a book which I had abandoned for 8 years prior, which is basically a self-study guide on how to detox the unconscious mind.
    • I utilized this guide for three months, and uncovered and healed a lot of the self-hate I had been hiding, but that which now I was becoming aware of. Sometimes this process wasn't pretty, but I knew I was making progress, one epiphany at a time.

And here I am, back from an almost year-long hiatus. I don't know how I'll manage this with all the weight of false starts and countless communities I have completely abandoned, bearing down upon me, but it's good to at least try!

So, I hope you'll welcome me back with tons of moe!

  9. I am not a sane man.

This has taken two weeks to set up, and a little more than 7 days to get all the amplifiers through one upgrade cycle. Unfortunately, I promised to get to a displayed grade 100, which means TWO MORE upgrades and weeks of farming the 3.6e+37 mana required for the last upgrade.

  10. I have been reading VNs and browsing many more that have "True Ends", or those where the plot is solved the "correct" way, at least as intended by the scenario writers (others have begged to differ by way of "best girl", but that's another subject). Usually, how the conflicts are resolved always point towards the antagonist(s) or antagonistic forces being defeated in some way. Sometimes the protagonist might lose his love interest/someone he cared for, or the protagonist might die, or the antagonist might pull off some part of his Xanatos Gambit. However, the outcome is always a net gain in the eyes of the protagonist or someone who is still alive to witness all that happened so far.

    Now,

My perspective is limited in terms of how many "True Ends" are happy miracles as in Clannad, Kanon, Hoshizora no Memoria, or compromises such as Rewrite or Shinigami no Kiss.

But, how many VNs are courageous enough to pull a 1984 and get away with it? What if you don't get Sachi, everyone hates you, and you get lobotomized by your enemy, all while your dreams wither to the sea of entropy, your master Asako breathing a sigh of disappointment in you? Can we really read all of that and say, "This is how it should be. I am satisfied with this ending"? I know I have the capacity to accept such an outcome and say the aforementioned, which is why I prefer Yume's bad end to her good end (though her route in Eternal Heart beats that still). However, can such a "True Bad End" 'work' in the context of the VN subculture, or will it be perceived as an oxymoron by others swiftly warning anyone 'oh btw, terrible ending. 0/10 stay away'?

  11. It's a real place in Japan, Steve found pictures of it. If you ask him, he probably remembers where it is.

Hmm, don't know how to 'read' this, but I assume it's in jest, going by the search results on all search engines for the town. Either way, I plan to locate and document this town with a level of detail bypassing any means of severing.

Or, maybe not. I haven't been here long enough to know you or others long enough, so please correct me in any case.

  12. So, here I am, trying to figure where this mythical town called Hibarigasaki might be. Most likely, the writers didn't even care where it was, and maybe it was modeled it after one or several real places (e.g. Higurashi's sanctification of Shirakawa-go). Or, failing that, an utopia.

However, if there are any bits and pieces of information that might give several likely places along Japan's coastlines and many islands, please do share. I need more than one set of eyes to scan every line of this VN series that I have enjoyed more and more these past months.

  13. I'm pretty sure her illness was just from stars in general and not one specific one. Also I'm curious as to the names you gave You and Yume.

    Names explanation:

Altair and Vega are Hikoboshi and Orihime, respectively. In the novel both You and Yume compare themselves to those stars (e.g. "even if we're separated like Orihime and Hikoboshi"). Where does Spica come in? Asuho ponders whether Hikoboshi would have chosen the star Spica instead of Vega, which I interpret to be Asuho thinking herself similar to Orihime, and her referring to Yume as the star Spica. Thus, I'm simply using Asuho's name for Yume.

  14. Sorry for asking this the day before I leave, but I want to know or confirm some basic facts presented in Spica's after story, as well as some rough dates chronicling important events to help integrate the canon into my story. I want as much spoiler as necessary without completely negating the impact of Eternal Heart, a risk I'm willing to take. I might get to this a little late, since I will have no internet (Local 802.11b public wifi sucks), but any answers will not go unappreciated.

So, here's what I have interpreted or guessed so far.

    • Spica has a "black box" illness to either cosmic radiation or a specific star, as with Haruto/Toudo.
    • The arrival of Mare on 200077 either exacerbated her illness, or provided an opportunity to "patch" her body.
    • The Good End skips from 2007124 to at least 5 years later.
    • The after story starts late into the good end, then flashes back to Spring, where I presume Altair and Spica are searching for Mare's meteor, most likely occurring in 2008. (Only read 3 lines past the bath scene cause the game throws a graph_bs error when loading a sprite)
    • Through a ritual, Spica is bound to the meteorite, borrowing its power to counteract her illness, since Mare isn't using it anymore.
    • Spica transfers in either the Spring or Fall semester of 2008, as a third-year cause she's 19.

At this point you might probably ask: how did I get those dates? Well, let's look at some choice lines from the prequel. Spica says this on 11/17 ():

"The universe is extremely vast. Our Milky Way is just one of the billions of galaxies. Our sun is just one of the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy.
And earth is just one of the planets orbiting the sun. We're just two individuals on a planet home to 6.6 billion people."

I then checked population estimates for the years on which November 17 falls on a Saturday. The closest match was 2007, as found here. Thus, I can say the release of Hoshizora occurs 23 days after the bad end (200934日 - 2009327).

  15. VNs already read/marked for future reading:

    True Remembrance

    Irosekai

    Marenovel

I ask this because I'm having trouble setting up the framework for my Marenovel fanstory as it relates to memories.

I first started not too long ago, around April, writing the master canon, until I hit a swarm of obstacles while trying to develop a workable system defining a memory.

At present I need more data to help find possible solutions to the problems I currently face.

So, are there any fitting the criteria that are somewhat good?
