The copy of the game is currently bugged. After the first ero scene, the game will make a fastforward-like sound and will skip ahead in the story line, presumably to the ending. I'm guessing it's a bad copy of the game, one that you guys probably re-uploaded by using the torrent file I provided on the forums.

Engrish is a term applied to Japanese voice actors when they say some random word or such in English, but with an accent and just reading it, it comes out...funny. Like, if you have ever seen Steins;Gate, when Okabe says stuff like 'Mad Scientist is so cool!' Thats an example of Engrish
I didn't know random Engrish was so common. But yeah, I could see how it'd be appealing. Just like if there was an English VA translation and they said random Japanese words.

1. Japanese VA/English subs (Because I don't understand much Japanese)
2. No preference (I don't much care, if it's a good story)
3. I prefer Japanese Voice Acting because *Other* I believe many people may be missing the most important part of the Japanese VA in anime, VNs, and other games. The Engrish spoken by the girls. It is just sooo cute I could never give it up. I dont much care if the guys speak Engrish. Unless they're cute. Then...maybe.
How would there be Engrish if it's in Japanese? I don't have a lot of experience with Japanese voice acting, so maybe I'm missing something.

The second poll question is pretty vague. Is it referring to Japanese companies making VNs for Westerners, Japanese companies modifying VNs for Westerners, or Western companies/fans making VNs for Westerners? I think some might change their answer depending on which of these implied questions they thought was being asked.

I don't get the point of the first option of the first question. Wouldn't that defeat the point of "localizing" it?
That's true, but I still wanted the option there in case people don't like English text or VA.

I have no problems with Englih dubbed media but the accent when pronouncing names and things that you can't translate in English bothers me.
Yeah, I agree. In the English dub of FLCL, the actors pronounce Japanese words that, at least to me, make it sound actually Japanese. I would love more voice acting with voices true to the character and the origin.

Conspiracy theories? NOW we're getting somehwere! And yeah, sorry, my first thread was asking if anyone knew of any VNs with English VA, that got derailed into some good, ol' fashion flame wars, so I made a new topic with a poll, but the poll was admittedly not organized well, so I made this one, which I think is a better structure and has less hate speech.

That's interesting. I play Japanese language VNs with machine assistance, and when I'm feeling impatient I'll actually skim the *machine translation* faster than the Japanese voice actor can speak the lines. For lines where I know the words, I can do the same with pure Japanese.
Reading at speaking speed is actually fairly common. It's a limiter many of us place on ourselves simply out of habit. You can break the limiter with practice (subtitled anime is actually pretty handy for that), and after you do so the pace of normal speech (and the lack of a skim option) can become annoying.
One of the downsides of immersing myself in subtitled anime, VNs, and the Internet is that my listening comprehension has probably atrophied a bit. When I watch an American movie without subtitles, I often end up missing words or lines. Even when the only option is English voice acting in game cinematics, I still turn on subtitles.
I always turn on subtitles for video games too. Even in-game subtitles, and not just cinematic subtitles. But I hate closed captioning for tv... weird.

The most prominent reason for this, in my experience, is that they have difficulty reading the text and paying attention to what's going on on-screen at the same time. This is uncomfortable for many people and is particularly problematic for people with low reading speed. Visual novels with English voice acting are almost non-existent so there's little data to draw on there.
That is definitely a contributing factor for me.
Now, I'm not a slow reader, but when reading subtitles, books, visual novels, etc., in my head I read things as if someone was speaking it, at the speed that they may be speaking it. I basically read things as you might hear when listening to an audio book. I have absolutely no idea why I do this, though.
So when it comes to anime with English subtitles, I'll be reading too slowly, so I'll have to rush, and I just end up not enjoying it. Also, A.D.D. gives me tunnel vision; I end up either forgetting to read, or more commonly, focusing on the subtitles.

I would love English dubs of visual novels, but I would love visual novels designed for English/American audiences even more, because I could relate to it/understand the references more.

As a tool for asking a question and receiving an objective answer, the poll has a few flaws.
1) Ambiguous question: "If all current/future VNs were voiced in English expertly, would you read those?" Just glancing at this, it's hard to pinpoint what you're trying to assess. Are you asking whether I'd refuse to play a VN that had English dub only? Are you asking whether, given a choice, I'd prefer an English dub over the original Japanese VA? I should be able to form an answer in my head before even looking at the choices.
2) Inconsistent or biased choices: "Yes, I'd exclusively read English VNs." You forgot to distinguish English VA from English-language text. "No, I'd prefer Japanese VA because my Japanese is better than my English." This is a nonsense answer, since if the person's Japanese was better than their English, they wouldn't be reading the VN in English in the first place. "No, I refuse to, because..." You use the word "refuse" in only this answer. In addition, this word has a negative connotation and will tend to bias the voter to other choices.
That said, I chose the last choice. I got into subs originally due to a perception that Japanese voice acting was better suited to anime than English voice acting (some of this is due to cultural gaps embedded in language); in addition, the English dubs I'd seen just weren't very good. Since then, I've learned some of the language and Japanese audio is a large part of what makes anime "anime" to me. Just as hair color often denotes personality in anime, so too is voice part of the characterization. For eroge, the problem is even more acute, as now the additional issue of vocal attractiveness and H-scene audio comes into play. I think a lot of people get into eroge in part because they reject the tropes in Western pornography, and they might find the Japanese voice acting itself arousing. For those into lolicon or "school life", there's the additional problem of unwanted reminders of "real-life" children/teens, which are easy to dismiss when the voice is in an exaggerated foreign tongue (enforcing the "otherwordliness" of it).
The "I'm just used to it" answer doesn't really apply to me, as my first exposure to Japanese media was through English dubs. I expect this is the case for most people. Anecdotally, I've exposed people who started on popular dubbed anime to subbed anime (sometimes of the same show). These casual anime watchers emphatically agreed that the subbed anime was better, though they had no knowledge of Japanese at all.
1) The title of this topic says "translated," meaning that the VN in its original, Japanese form already existed, or if the VN hasn't been released yet, if it were, it'd be released in both languages.
2A) It should be obvious that English VN means it's all in English, just how you would assume that a Japanese VN has both Japanese voice and text, unless otherwise stated.
2B) The part about people with better Japanese than English might be understood from my response to question 1.
2C) I couldn't think of any reason to not read English VNs other than the reasons, but that's a good point, so I added another unbiased choice. And there have been a ton of people in this thread/my previous one/other forums/etc. that absolutely refuse to watch EngDub Anime, so I included it as an option. The bias, as you call it, isn't to lead someone into answering a certain way. It's not like I wrote "Yes, I will exclusively read English VNs because I hate anything that isn't 'murican." or "No, I refuse to because I'm an asshole, and here's why:..."

I started anime with dub for like first 4 but then I switched to sub+JP sound and never want to go back :)/>
Many of the words sound really weird in English or don't even have English counterpart and then it ends up like Mei in Clannad where instead of "oniichan" it was "bro".
And that was last one I watched with dub, after that only JP.
I always preferred original whether it is EN over CZ sound in English TV series, movies and games or JP in Japanese anime and games.
And you learn the language that way - I learned English basically only from movies, series and games.
Well, it doesn't have to be 100% translated into English. Certain words like that could be left there, and by context, the reader could learn Japanese. There's a lot of -chans, -sans, -sempais, -senseis, and -kuns in anime, games, and the like, even in English translations, and I'm fine with it.

Since my previous topic got, um... derailed, I figured I'd start this one and ask y'all if you would read VNs with English VN, and if not, why. I would exclusively read the English ones, but that's just me.

Actually I'll come out and say it... I don't like being likened to a pedophile because I like Loli's. Since that is exactly what you said.
A pedophile wouldn't be insulted by your statement. It was a bad analogy and really I'd rather you felt bad, but I feel that is too much to ask. So I'll say my piece, think a little less of you for it and simply move on and forget about it.
If either of you have a valid reason as to why it's okay to show pantyshots of 10 year olds, please let me know.

I'm a native English speaker as well, and I do feel that English Dubs bug me a lot more than they should really.
Sorry, when I said "from what I read" I meant from their Wiki page. I didn't actually read it. I can see where that may be misleading.
Did you just liken a preference for subtitles to a sexual fetish (and a psychological disorder?!)? Granted, both inclinations reflect a strong preference for an original unsullied state but...
I'm pretty sure only pedophiles would be insulted by my analogy. So, I'm not saying you're a pedophile, but... you know.

I believe part of it is that VA you don't quite understand sometimes sounds better for whatever reason. It's not necessarily that the japanese VA is any better than english (though to be honest... it probably is), but that that exotic factor or w/e makes you consider it better.
Also en dub homura > jap homura
I'm kind of paranoid, so I like to think that the Japanese voice-acting isn't the same as the text, but is actually some secret, Satanic ritual. Which is why I prefer English Voice Acting.
