Gold & White or Black & Blue

Both are definitely possible and there are various reasons as to why, but just so you know that it is possible to see the colors people are seeing:

Here is the image with max BRIGHTNESS: white+gold

Here is the image with max CONTRAST: blue+black

But yeah the actual dress is blue & black

It's all about how the lighting plays out.

Even in the max brightness one you posted I see it as blue and black (though it's much more vague). It's all about how people's individual retinas recieve light.

Those who see Black and Blue have a good sensitivity to light

Those who see White and Gold have a not so good sensitivity to light

Here's what different lighting can do to your eyes' perception of color.

In the picture above both A and B are the exact same color

You mean the letters A and B are same color. or the tiles?!??

if you're telling me that light grey B tile is the same as that dark grey A tile im ganking Flutterz

~~

nvm i see it

i have been enlightened

LOL

The tiles.

You can check for yourself if you want.

Open either Photoshop or MS Paint and use the Eyedropper tool to detect colors.

Click on Tile A and Tile B and you'll see both have an RGB value of 120, 120, 120

I also did this for the Dress which ended up having an RGB value of around 135, 144, 177

Which is a shade of blue

No matter where I clicked on the dress in the picture it was always a shade of blue.

The black is a little trickier because of the poor lighting, but it ends up with this brownish color thingie

Oh and by no means am I disregarding those who see different colors. I know you do see different colors in the picture, because that's just how crappy the lighting is and how easy it is to trick our own eyes.

But as far as the real color of the dress, it's undoubtedly, unequivocally, 100% Black and Blue.

It was fun to see people's reactions in the first couple hours, but at this point I'm just like:

Aight 500% Brightness (this is what you people with bad eyes see!!!)

Wn00iSv.png

And 500% contrast

Now that's a gold and white :P

There's a microscopic hint of blue here and there for me, but the majority is just white.

And if you increase the exposure, you can see the Dress is actually a Super Saiyan

well, i can defintly say i fot bad eyes.

But that dress never looked wite and gold to me.

To me it looked like this

the wite part looks to me like, a slight blue haze is over it like a light was shining on a blue surface behind it.

And the gold looks like beige a really dirty color of beige.

So why do i end up with colors somewhere imbetween?

P.S. i know i got bad eyesight. (-2.00 and -4.25 with a cilinder)

The original owner of the dress:

To end this farce once and for all!

I still see blue and gold :/

Either way, it's the kind of blue that I'd be likely to say 'that would be white if not for the lighting', so im not sure where that leaves me.

whatever.

Try looking at the picture again by squinting really hard. :)

Guys it has nothing to do with the quality of your vision, just how you naturally build a context for the lighting. The image's lighting is strange, which leads to people interpreting it differently based on how they are used to reading lighting. People speculate that the difference arises between people used to seeing things under light (white/gold) and people used to seeing things in the dark(blue/black).
