This is causing a lot more ruckus than I thought it would, with people going loco all over the Facebook VN communities and downloading whatever they see.

It's actually all a plot we schemed to make people play more VNs. They'll frantically grab everything and play them. True to our goal, until the bitter end.

In all honesty, this really does not bother me as I got most my Vn's elsewhere and patched them myself for various reasons.Secondly if torrent downloads was the only thing keeping this community together then there are bigger problems at hand than losing the ability to conveniently download VN's.

probably the feelings of the majoirty, still i do think it led quite a few people to us as they do attract attention.

So who knows what will happen in the future, but let it be glorious.

Keeping us together isn't what people are worried about, it's continuing to build the community. People come for the torrents then stay for the community. Tay is already addressing this concern, so it's not an issue entirely.

Or they come for the Love Live thread :makina:

You think you're being conspiratory? I've seen people claim you guys will do a Crunchyroll and start profitting from the VN market.

Not a bad idea, I'd say.

You would need a few hundred thousand in capital investment to actually do this.

And tranlating VN's is far more expensive and complex than anime and manga.

Steam is our only hope for a large distribution market for probably the next 5 years.

Indeed, I've been using the site for torrents for about a year, only recently I decided to join the community and I must say, I'm dubtful that I will stay active after the torrents are gone since I will probably forget about this site. But maybe there is hope, because the community seems to be quite nice and more accepting of new member than many others.

So decided to randomly rant about why I think the removal of the torrents is not just a good thing but a necessary thing to happen in order for fuwanovel to survive. Apologies if anything below is inaccurate or what not I'm a history teacher not a legal expert.

Fuwanovel has always served a rather niche group and now this niche group is being affected by the many changes that the fuwanovel website is currently going through. As visual novels get more noticed in the west and other parts of the world changes are going to happen. Fuwanovel was capable of doing what it used to in large part because it remained anonymous and rather unheard of. With the world slowly changing its tune about visual novels and anime related content in general fuwanovel needs to change with it. Instead of being a place to pirate it needs to be a place that when people find out about it they don't associate it with an underground porn distribution site (as inaccurate as that is). It needs to go legal as visual novels themselves become more well known so they too can stay in the legal standing. Make no mistake recent surveys on a number of websites have already proven that visual novels are becoming more well known and it even has its own tag on steam and the majority of visual novel sales last year seemed to be of the all ages type. Fuwanovel is trying to make itself friendly to the people who come from those games so that they won't be afraid to try some of the other ones. The media is now looking at visual novels as a type of game regardless of whether they believe they actually are or not and thus will be looking into the genre and the community to write up about them.

The website is currently seeing a number of people leave the website (or at the very least claim they will) but even without the torrents on the main page fuwanovel has something they won't be able to find elsewhere. A community. Not to sound cheesy and all but humans crave connection and what fuwanovel does is connect people who play visual novels with one another. It's not the most common topic of which one can discuss to the average person and so despite people leaving if they want to participate in a community then I believe we'll see a number of them return. They might be upset now but let's wait and see how things blow over...I don't see a good alternative to fuwanovel at this time and even if something did pop up it would take some time for it to grow to fuwanovel notoriety.

One of the biggest questions that I've heard people ask about this is whether or not translators will actually be affected and from what I can tell more than likely no. The translators either buy the game legitimately or know how to find the game through various means without fuwanovel's aid. It simply is a place where people can find their translations. So this is likely to not affect them in the slightest.

I see the argument that fuwanovel is doing this to try and get people to buy more visual novels and while I agree with the idea that people should support an industry if they enjoy it I am also aware not everyone has the luxury of it. In this instance removing patches/torrents is not really going discourage pirates from pirating nor increase their urge to buy stuff as a result. I think a large part of the torrents being missing can stem from the idea that people of many different ages and different nationalities with many different laws and beliefs have been finding the games and that any of these places could be targets for the internet regulation bills/laws/rules/etc... that multiple nations have been trying to get past. In getting rid of the stuff that would have made the site a target it essentially makes it so that it is more likely to stand the test of time as well as any new laws that might try to get past in regards to the internet; as the internet and technology get ever more popular this becomes more of an issue.  The site doesn't even have to worry about that due to the removal of that which would make it a target.

To the people who are still concerned about the loss of the torrents I implore you to look at this from the point of view of the owner of this website and anyone who works within it;

It is really quite obvious when one thinks about it but torrenting is quite illegal in many places around the world. Since people from all walks of life in any place of the world can potentially access it the owner of a site is responsible for the content distributed. Each of these people that visit this site live in different places with their own laws and regulations. In some places you would be lucky to be just fined and dealing with copyright laws in other parts of the world this could be considered much much worse. If a visual novel is 18+ one could be hit with some criminal legal ramifications as well and it's even worse if one is considered distributing adult content to minors since obscenity laws in many places are quite ridiculous. By getting rid of torrents/downloads the site is not capable of being hit legally for those issues and as such the longevity is now increased for the website as a whole.

To everyone who is currently complaining about this site not hosting torrents/downloads then I tell you go off and create a site that allows distribution yourself. Go ahead take a chance and create and fund your own site while also maintaining yourself within the law. No one should be faulting any of the members for not wanting to take such a risk in being fined or jailed and if you want to complain or get upset then do it yourself. If you don't have the metaphorical balls to do it yourself you shouldn't be complaining about other people not doing it. You never know when one of those companies could decide to sue you or you find out something went against the law...so again go right ahead no one will stop you. In fact I dare/challenge you to create a site that does just such a thing.

You can still get them without buying though, just a bit harder.

I read about that just after my post, I don't really care if it's harder.

I wouldn't mind buying them no matter how expensive they are, if they were avaiable, but even licensed VNs are almost impossible to get here unlicensed ones even harder.

May I ask another question ?

We know many things you plan to do, that has been exposed in the interview.

But what is the objective of fuwanovel ?

I don't think the "make VNs popular in the west" stands anymore. But if you still think so, I'm curious to know how you plan to try and make that an objective for your website.

Okay fuwanovel should - at least at the beginning - offer some new features, this is exciting for the current members, but does fuwa still want to spread ? Or is fuwa a VN website, with reviews and tools for people already reading them ?

Has fuwanovel lost it's ambitious objective to spread the genre ? I know it never was the best to do so, but it did it's part.

For instance, I would have never tried more than a couple VN's had I not stumbled on the torrents here. But this isn't about the torrents, the torrents are gone, and the potential fuwa has to attract new players has highly decreased. Introduction kits are good if you have people to be introduced to the genre.

I remember you saying you tried to reach to the anime communities. Could you devellop that point ?

Thank you in advance
