THAT'S ALL YOU NEED, FLUTTERZ.

In addition to KS the greatest starter VN of all time, there will be other free games (Narcissu) and links to easy distribution. The iOS port of Planetarian is great and affordable, it and others are on Steam, too. I alluded to it above, but I'm also in the process of trying to negotiate some cool demos (some extended, some not) for several VNs on PC and Android.

I'm concerned about the removal of torrents. But I'm sure it will all work out.

Ps. Pay attention to how much feedback you receive concerning the torrents, however I think you have already accepted this. Good job. I think this is what makes great leaders. Sometimes they have to make decisions that may not necessarily make the community happy.

All of us just have to accept that.

- I should point out that the changes were very much necessary (Tay's hands are tied.)

- Links to patches is an interesting idea

- I see no problem with the exchanging of "convenience" to keep alive a community.

- This move also allows Fuwanovel to grow beyond just being a "glorified seed box" (credit to the quote goes to our fabulous member IceD, a quote I wholeheartedly agree with.)

Fuwanovel was great site you could download Vns and talk about them with people i entered here because in the main page i saw several visual novels and some little review with info about the VN and a torrent, it was easy to install and easy to play but not anymore :'c so i'm leaving because of it, it was nice to meet u guys

Just kidding idk why the huge deal about torrent u only need to download it at nyaa and patch it, there are some vns that aren't on fuwa~

I definitely don't think we're going to alienate the TL community, it's in my opinion in fuwanovel's best interest to help translation teams and it has always been a key aspect of fuwanovel as well.

I think it'd be perfectly fine to link to each team's respective patch, we don't need to host it ourselves or anything, there's no harm done in that.

I still think the transition will be very rough and all in all we're going to become something completely different which will lose the interest of many, but i've said before that i don't stay here for the torrents (i will get muh porn either way :makina:) and i think there's more people like that out there.

Wether fuwanovel can strive this way or not beats me, but trying to do something is better than being a sinking ship, and i think this set of projects at least has the potential to put us on the spotlight and help us become more relevant and useful than just be a seedbox.

What torrents will be gone?!?!?! WTF...

I don't really care about that. I'm able to get what I want to get. And I haven't used it since I became a member here I think. The only thing that worries me a little bit about that is that will maybe lower the amount of new members a bit. But also it could be a chance to not attract a weird audience ;) ... In the end I'll trust the people and it will not change my status.

For now I just wait and see what there is coming. Panicking and ranting about something you have no knowledge or experience with will lead to nothing other than high blood pressure. After everything is done I can criticize (constructively) and help to find a better solution if necessary.

What if as users we back up the torrent files for most (as many as we can) VN's, then put them up on a Google Drive or something, then post a link to that Drive on Pastebin, which we can then link from Fuwa?

This still means goodbye to uploading new pre-patched VN's (which sucks, but it seems a necessary evil), but we can at least keep the old ones.

I'm not sure if this is doable or not, just throwing it out there

I don't think we'll be stopping discussion of fan translated VNs, only not y'know, providing a convenient way to acquire them. We can then sit in the usual bubble of not officially asking about or telling where people got their torrents, weeeeeee.

I don't think people can stop PMs in general (unless Nay or whoever feels like monitoring them, which probably wouldn't sit right with anyone) but advertising such things existing is probably not going to be viable. That said, the whole mentorship thing might inevitably extend into more covert or w/e piracy advice once contact has been established for obvious reasons.

Wow. I wish I could say I'm at a loss for words but here I am typing. I feel this is pretty much the end of the site as we know it and will dash any hopes of growing the community. I've seen other sites remove their torrents and it becomes a mass exodus to the next place that crops up. It wasn't that the games couldn't be found elsewhere but this place was dependable. I'd come here first if I was looking for a game because I knew that it would be in working order and if I did have a problem with it there was a forum right there to get help (though I never really used the forum for help). I really wish the fan translation groups well because you guys are awesome and your hard work allows many of us to better understand the games we are playing instead of through broken Japanese. I hope that you'll be able to find a good place to host your prepatched version of the title because it doesn't sound like you'll be able to host it here. I guess I will remain for now to see how it all goes down but if an alternate to fuwanovel were to pop up without these new restrictions I may be inclined to move there...

PMs are none of our concerns, you're free to do whatever you want or need to in there (even though I might have a personal issue with them, depending on their nature, not related to piracy), just like you could still burn DVDs/switch USB sticks or engage in peer-to-peer file sharing (guess what, torrenting) to share files between friends and acquaintances.

Fuwanovel just won't be the faciliator for that kind of deal. It's straight up illegal for licensed games and a legal grey area at best for anything else. Fuwanovel will provide patches (with a possible optional opt-out for the creators) and possibly even quick installation guides, pretty much the contents of a readme.txt or install.txt, which - and let's be honest here - is the hard part about tapping into the medium. Most JP-only games are only a google search away, the patch might not be as readily available.

For all the people who stopped reading after coming to the conclusion "torrent are getting will be removed, GG Fuwanovel", keep your eyes peeled for upcoming new features and developments. This is not the end, but a fresh start away from the slump of the past year or so, which the site desperately needed.

It's good to see that Fuwa is trying lots of new things and expanding itself.

The torrents will definitely be missed but it's not too much of a blow. I did use Fuwanovel torrents but it's not like we can't get torrents at all now. Google is always there.

The front page's use will completely change now. Truthfully the only use of the front page before was to find the torrents.

The main reason for me to be in Fuwa is the freedom it has and the open-minded community. I just hope that the change does not affect those in any way.

This is probably the only part that I feel is inaccurate - torrent usage declines amongst the core userbase because anyone who's been here long enough already has the VNs they're interested in.  This doesn't really make the value of the torrents lower in and of themselves.

The survey was about the last 5 VNs you obtained. It made no distinction WHEN you obtained them, it just wanted to know WHERE. To be perfectly frank, Fuwa doesn't host the majority of VNs. It doesn't host nukige, console, or mobile, and they are ALL big areas. The nukige one especially, if you already have to go off-site to find nukige then it won't be much of a change to go off-site to find story VNs

Furthermore the surveys showed far more people don't like pre-patched games then some thought. The reason for this is it's difficult to troubleshoot when things go wrong, and other communities (like reddit) won't help you as much if you got a pre-patched game. They WILL help you patch the game though.

Frankly though, part of me feels like this might have needed to happen.  VNs are growing at a much, much faster pace than they were a short two or three years ago, both in terms of translations and the OELVN market.  A year or two ago, this would've been suicidal.  Now, I'm not so sure.

Agreed.

The difference being there isn't many places to go if you want to talk about VNs. Furthermore, there are hardly any VN sites around that accumulate Visual Novel information for the consumer.

Thus, the difference is the market which is why Fuwa will continue surviving and being strong.

Ah, fair enough.

With that said, I'm considering making a thread in the VN Talk so everyone knows which VNs are worth grabbing before they go down.  Is that alright or since the forums are already moved is it already under the possibly draconian TOS laws?  Would something like that cause issue?

It probably shouldn't but I'd like to make sure.  ><
