Mangagamer 2015 Releases

Princess Evangile... that one wasn't that good, from what I recall.

Edit:  That's the one where the protagonist is a 'test student' for making the school a multi-gender one, resulting in the usual 'guy at a girls' school' antics... it was average in quality, as I recall, though it got a lot of attention and hype.

Edit2: If they were going to do a Moonstone game, I wish they'd do Maji Suki... that game is that company's best one.

Everything I've heard about Evangile makes it seem thoroughly unremarkable. It has a decent vdnb score, but eh. MangaGamer is really good at picking the most uninspiring moege out there. Remember that 2013's big moege release was Harukoi Otome, lol.

edit: And before that was Otoboku. They also did Edelweiss many years ago, and let's not forget Kara no Shoujo. What is with MG and all-girls schools? I want to say it's just coincidence, but it's a little unusual to say the least.

Seems like Evangeline coming to steam would be a good thing, but from the comments here so far it doesn't seem like to large of a title.  I'd much rather Kara no Shoujo and Euphoria come to Steam in an all-ages format, though I don't know how much of an impact the 18+ elements make on either.  They certainly interest me more than most anything else on that list.

Going to be grabbing Eden* on release.  Really looking forward to it!  All-ages, of course.  :P

An all-ages version of Euphoria is more or less impossible. That's not even worth entertaining.

An all-ages version of KnS is theoretically possible without ruining it, but Innocent Grey hasn't done it. It would require a lot of CG censoring. Well, JAST is doing that with Romanesque but it would probably look less natural in KnS. I don't think MG is going to bother doing that themselves.

Semiramis no Tenbin, Toppara, Shuumatsu Shoujo Gensou Alicematic, Meguri Megureba Meguru Toki,  and Otoboku 2 (ten thousand times better than the original).

All of those are excellent games by Caramel Box, one of the companies contracted with Mangagamer.  It is just weird that they haven't been localized.

Well, I get the sense that it's ultimately up to Hobibox (caramel box's parent company) as to what gets localized. They probably saw Otoboku's poor sales and think "why should we ever license the sequel?" But they're a MangaGamer shareholder, so they will probably want them to do something else of theirs.

It's strange to think about it like this, but it's like JAST has been able to get some pretty high-tier partners like Nitro+, Alcott, and Xuse/Eternal, but sit on those licenses barely producing anything, while MangaGamer is stuck with some pretty middling partners and proceed to select some of the more questionable titles from each one. You'd hope that MG would be able to make the most out of the selection they do have, but somehow most of their announcements are very disappointing. At least they actually release stuff, though.

That would be a waste... I remember posting a rage on the Mangagamer blog when they said they were going to release the first one that went to the effect, "Don't you know that if you want to attract customers to your games, you need to actually release the good ones!?"

Gahkthun should be fun, Koestl is estimating a release for that this year, even if MG themselves aren't. I'm hoping that after Gahkthun they suddenly anounce rail-soft title, like Albatross maybe. But they'll probably just want to focus on the Steampunk franchise, even though I'm worried about the viability of some of the older titles. Everyone and their mother wants Sona-Nyl, so that too would be nice if it's next.

Oooh I'll be on the lookout for that, then! ...They did include CGs of it in that post, but the date's very much up in the air for them, I guess...

Sona-Nyl has the best looking main guy, so I don't see why not! But seriously, it is the next step backwards in time, so that would make sense, although I don't know how dependent on the older titles it is.... Because part of the reasons they picked Gahkthun was that it was modern and not super-dependent on the prior titles, right? Or am I remembering things wrong...?

@decay, that sounds pretty reasonable what you said bout hobibox and their intention as a shareholder of mg to raise their sales of less selling titles. makes me really bit depressive, that therefore the priority lies more on making money, then on localizing some quality products (which would definitely be the more future oriented solution like clephas mentioned, cause better publicity results almost ever in better sales inthe end)
and i cant follow mgs statement that it has something to do with the high piracy rate of their games, seriously nearly 90% of their sortiment is made out of rubble and i can understand some dudes who dont want to waste their bucks on poorly translated porn, with lots of typos & word wrap issues.

Pretty much all of the Steampunk games are self-contained. They're set in the same world and I believe Sona-Nyl might not explain some of the technology or circumstances as clearly as Inganock or Gahkthun, but the story isn't connected to the others at all. Once they introduce the setting with Gahkthun, they can likely choose any other title in the franchise. Sona-Nyl is the most requested game, so that's probably where they'll go next. It might also be one of the most difficult to translate games in the franchise, but thankfully they have Koestl to make sense out of it.

edit: For the heck of it, my predictions for the next six or seven months from MangaGamer: Today is obviously Eden, next month is NTY (feb 27th, it was just announced), then March is Princess Evangile, May or June is going to be Kara no Shoujo 2, and July or August is going to be Euphoria. Higurashi chapter 1 remake is probably going to fill in an empty month, maybe May. Although they might release it sooner, it's hard to say. As for the rest of the year, maybe if we're really lucky, Bokuten will come out late (november or december?), and perhaps Gahkthun as well. This leaves a hole in autumn, but overall it seems like it's going to be a busier and much more interesting year than 2014. As for DC3: lol not a chance. And the rest of the nukige besides euphoria: Who cares? Free Friends has been delayed because they recently threw out the (complete and fully edited) translation and are starting from scratch. You have to wonder about a translation that's so bad it's not fit for nukige... YukkuriS did it and is now working for Sekai Project, it might explain their rather questionable translations of Neko Para and Fault (I don't actually know who was responsible for those).

On the JAST side of things, 2015 also looks busier for them as well. Hanachirasu and Starless have a release dates, the Kana Imouto remake is releasing very soon, they've said Sumaga will be out by summer, and Shiny Days and Seinarukana will both certainly be released this year. Even Schatten has a chance for release this year, although i'm not betting on it. Django? Not gonna happen. edit 2: also I said earlier that JAST is partnered with Alcot but are doing nothing with them, just recently on tumblr it seems like they said they plan on working with them again in "the near future" (in JAST terms, next decade? :P). They make some pretty fun, albeit brainless moege. Maybe they could do something like Tokyo Hero Project, that looks stupid and fun. Or maybe they'll pull the rug out from under Astro and license Clover Days. :P

Coupled with all of the Fuwa projects coming near to completion, 2015 seems like it will be a much busier year for translated eroge.
