Toggle for H Content?

It's as useful as being able to toggle off Motion Blur in Videogames (the most shittiest invention ever)

So yes, being able to toggle off H-scenes, especially when they have no plot or fetish you don't like (who said Ayakashibito?) Because let's face it, even if some wants H-scenes, i'm not sure everyone want to see Golden Shower/Loli Sex(really not), so giving this ability is the best thing eve.

I sense blasphemy. :kosame:

Though in all seriousness I can respect that, I know there are plenty of scenes (overtly-graphic rape, brutality, vore, guro) I would prefer to have a toggle for - even if I am "pro hscenes".

It would be the best invention in VN industry ever! It wouldn't just skip the H-scenes, but remove them from the gallery so that people who don't want to see this stuff could navigate through the gallery freely. Brilliant?

The question is: why have japanese producers never thought about this?

The money for doing that could give them a nice meal in a restaurant instead, that's why  <_<

On a serious note, I guess it's because there is not enough demand from customers. Players who prefer all-age, no-H are still minority, after all.

But it wouldn't hurt to do that. It wouldn't take that much effort. I'm not talking about editing the nudity images, though, just removing them is fine. Even if the public is minority (actually it is minority because VNs are often linked to ero, and people who aren't into ero aren't interested in VN), and even if the amount of money they would receive is little, at least it would be something more. Better than nothing. I'm sure there are at least some people who would be interested, the same public who buy console versions of VNs.

Just thinking out loud, but...

Tthe console versions have extra stuff over and above the original PC versions.  Sometimes a lot of good stuff (sometimes not so good, but the point is...)

If you're gonna edit an H title, I think it ought to be edited just enough to get rid of the hardcore, but keep the stuff that would get an "R" rating (nudity and the kissing etc.)  If you cut out all of it, then you just have the console version, but with no extras--might as well play the console version.

The more options the merrier. This would perhaps be useful if you want to introduce underage people to great stories, like Grisaia or G-senjou, while not having them watch porn by accident.

I'm certainly for it as you generally can't go wrong with more options and it's useful.

Like everyone has a console, seriously...

There's no demand for toggleable H-content because negative reactions to erotic content tend to be morally driven.  Practically speaking, the audience that refuses to buy eroge would not suddenly go out and purchase them if there were a menu option to disable it in-game.  They're still buying buying a porn game, and that's wrong .  To capture this demographic, you have to completely dissociate the release from porn.  You have to remove the 18+ label and HCG on the packaging.  You have to insert new content to replace the holes created by removing the ero.  Then you have to lower the price because non-ero releases are cheaper by tradition.  A toggle just doesn't cut it.  The demographics for porn games and not-porn games are too distinct.

I believe they don't buy it because of the H content, not because they are afraid of police knocking on their door for buying porn.

I'd prefer to have an h-scene switch. I'm looking at you Kara No Shoujo with your random sex scenes that do nothing but warn me that I'm heading towards a bad end.

Okay, but you forgot something. Not all VNs have console versions, actually most of them, don't. The number of console VNs (not counting otomege) is only 6.5% compared to all VNs. So if most VNs can't afford to have a console version, a toggle for H-scenes will be really useful for people who don't like this.

I agree with this. But at the same time, while most people who don't like ero games wouldn't buy ero games with a toggle, there might be at least some people who would. Some people who are interested in certain VNs that don't have console versions. As I said, it wouldn't hurt that much to do this. It would increase the market, even if it's only a tiny bit, but it's better than nothing, isn't it?

I'd be happy with a toggle. I personally like h-scenes a good bit of the time, but I'm not one to shy away from a story if it doesn't have them. That said, I like to read the original version of a vn, so if it has h-content I'll probably want to read it. If I'm seriously opposed to the h-content, I doubt I'll be reading the vn anyway. But I mean, it's not like a toggle hurts me at all. I'm not too sure how helpful it will be. Sanahtlig has a good point, and it's not like it's easier for me to rec a game with h-content to my friends because they can remove it. People will still shy away from games with h-content. But you know, I'm sure a small group of people would be pleased. It's just not the largest demographic.

Is it different where you live?  I can't remember the last time I visited someone's house who didn't have some kind of game console...you just expect to see it there....tv, blu ray, av receiver, game console...

I don't think it's that unusual... at least in the US. Or maybe that's just me?

For what it's worth, I seem to recall an option in Venus Blood series games to not display H-scenes, probably because the H-content is kind of extreme and the gameplay + story have such merit that there might actually be people who'd want to play the games with no ero.  But that's built into their engine.  I doubt it'd be trivial for a third party like JAST to hack a feature like that in themselves.

I should add that the H-scenes in the Venus Blood series are long, varied, and even have character development significance.  I'd appreciate them a bit more if there weren't so damn many though leading to densely packed ero in the last few chapters of every game.

It's funny how this works because when HBO does nudity there's not really much complaints, then we have games like Mass Effect, some stupid people complain but overall a very popular game series where people seem to like the sexy parts. I believe we are moving to society more accepting of sex and porn, just look at sites like Reddit, it's full of porn and nudity and it often ends up on the front page without many complaints. But maybe it's just what I want to believe.

ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY!!! without porn the world is doomed, you hear me, DOOMED!!!

This isn't about removing H-scenes from VN's though, just about adding an option to skip them for audiences that dislike them.
