Anime with Very Powerful OST's

I think Shiro Sagisu is a genius and his work on the Evangelion (both series and rebuild) OSTs is incredible.

I also absolutely love Yuki Kajiura's work on Kara no Kyoukai (those are pretty long but so freaking awesome).

Those are probably my two favorite and I love the other works of both of those composers, but I also enjoy a lot musics by Yoko Kanno (Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, GitS:SAC), Kenji Kawai (Patlabor, GitS movie), Joe Hisaishi (Ghibli movies) and a bunch of other soundtracks like Paprika, Hunter x Hunter, Rahxephon, the Umineko anime (for the obvious reason that the VN OST is unbelievably good), Galaxy Express 999, Harlock 78, Yamato 2199, Aria, and many more...

This is a bit of an under appreciated gem of an anime, but Revolutionary Girl Utena has a phenomenal OST! Not only do the background pieces define certain scenes, but every single battle (around 20 battles) have their own individual vocal songs. While the lyrics for each battle song are always a bit wacky, they are always thematically relevant to each battle. If you like great music in anime check Revolutionary Girl Utena out!

This may seem like an amv, but in reality all the video creator did was omit the dialogue and slightly edit some clips (but very minimally):

Another example of the excellent use of songs:

While the lyrics for each battle song are always a bit wacky, they are always thematically relevant to each battle.

Me every time a fight starts in Utena: "Okay this time I'm gonna pay attention to the lyrics and figure out what they're symbolizing. Not like I need to watch the fight anyway, it's all stock shot".

Me at the end of every fight in Utena: "Well, fuck you Ikuhara."

Aside from J.A. Seazer's wonderful work on those songs, Utena also has some great regular tracks though. Can't believe I forgot to mention it earlier!

...Well okay, a lot of stuff is ripped off from public domain classical music. But I don't care, it's great! :wahaha:

Kind of cheating on some of these since some are from movies or OVAs, but they also may not be quite as commonly referenced due to age

Armitage III Polymatrix had a great soundtrack that really fit the cyberpunk feel of the show

Iria: Zeiram The Animation wasn't big on the bombast, but it had a great OST with a fair bit of subtlety to it

Last Exile...  Hey!  An actual series!  Okay, I think this show is fairly well known, but maybe some people have forgotten how awesome the soundtrack is.  I haven't
