Nakige, charage and chuuni. Nakige because I enjoy drama very much and I don't cry easily, so it's quite hard to make me cry (LB managed to do it, though), if it can make me cry, it's very good. Charage because I like character-focused stories and personal dramas. I have played a moege (If Konosora can be called a moege) and I liked it, but it doesn't count since it has more drama than most moeges. And chuuni, because I like action, fighting and stuff.

What the hell is a "Moege"?

Anyways, I consider Utsuge and Nakige to be too similar to really be different things.

What do you call visual novels that are like Utsuge and Nakige in that they are heavily drama and plot focused but aren't exactly "crying games." For example, Type-Moon games or most of Nitroplus' games.

pretty much but not really. I lose any sense of romantic progression if a couple has not copulated so it's more of a mental necessity than just reading it for the porn. Likewise if it has too much porn and not enough content i also lose my sense of interest so there really needs to be some sort of real balance.

It's why i never really fancied Amane's route on Grisaia

>tfw gameplay isn't by genre

etc, etc, my interest in 999-esque gameplay would be significantly higher than something SRPG (at the moment, I haven't really played much SRPGs in my day) or especially turn based style which is really outdated these days #opinion #givemetwewyanyday.

,...anyway that's not in my main preferences anyway, so...

Charage

>Plotge/scenarioge (I have no idea if the term actually exists)

Basically something has a story rather than a character focus. This really isn't just chuu2: Ever17 and 999 would both be examples, Rewrite is arguably so in Terra and some character routes. Most of those kind of bring me to a liking for mystery though, come to think of it... ah well.

I suppose in many ways VN classification is weird because of how much it focuses on romance (well, and porn) due to market factors in general.

Moege means a vn that focus on the characters or the main heroines being cute and nothing much else, which means it essentially a nukige with cute art.

And utsuge and nakige are not the same, not even close. A nakige can be sad but most of the time it doesnt end in a bad way, it will make you sad but most of the time it ends with a happy ending: huge spoilers ahead. (

Aka clannad after story ---->nagisa dies but then she is revived, you cry but then they all end up like a happy family

:P

Steins;Gate ------>Okarin ends up meeting kurisu in the end, but first you think they wont.

Katawa Shoujo ---->drama drama drama but in the end hisao and the heroine you picked live happy forever. (except for the joke ending with kenji)

)

Utsuge it will make you cry and most of the time it will end in a "bad" or very sad way:

Narcissu 1st--->setsumi commits suicide and then the other protagonist clearly will die no matter what.

Ef ----->Yuuko was raped and abused by her "brother" and then she dies.

Niji no Kanata ni ---> Miku dies at the end (while she was being raped by his own doctor

Planetarian -----> Reverie dies in the end along with the main character)

See the pattern?Again its not always like this but most of the time it will be and sometimes you can have in the same novel nakige and utsuge for example in Ef.

Well, I didn't read enough yet to have clear preferences but...

I choose charage because I like cute heroines, but I want some plot, so moege is not enough.

I choose nakige, because I like some engaging drama. I probably would like utsuge as well, because I prefer reasonable bad or bitter-sweet endings oves ass-pulled happy ends, but I didn't read enough of those to be sure.

I also choose kinetic novel, because I don't like choices at all. Better to have linear plot or some kind of clear one choice scenario selection.

Funny thing. When I pasted this text into google translator (to check for misspellings) it insisted, that I made mistake and it should be nukige rather than nakige. You bastard, don't think you know me that well... ;p
