Any parents who watch anime?

My dad watched Neon Genesis Evengelion long ago and nowadays he watches anime I recommend from time to time. He likes mecha anime so I recommended him Aldnoah. Zero and Date a Live but he wasn't very fond of the latter. I wonder why.

Other than that, he watches Kiseijuu and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works now.

So what about you folks?

I thought this thread was asking if anyone was a parent that watches anime...

My mother is very well religious (on an almost zealous level) and I once tried to get her to watch anime and we managed to get through 24 episodes of Kanon...although she seemed to like it she was worried because she somehow thought I only liked depressing anime. She also was under the impression that it was all porn before that (in large part to her finding a volume of love hina ages ago when I first started buying manga) but I think she realizes that it isn't all porn and that's as much as I can hope. She bought me Last Exile for Xmas last year so she might be warming up a bit.

My father on the other hand while also very religious is a bit more open. We've watched trigun (only first episode), all of code geass, all of baccano, and a few lupin the 3rd movies. He seemed to like lupin the 3rd and seemed confused by baccano. Code Geass he watched but I can't tell if he liked it or tolerated it. He never really said anything while watching it so I'm going to assume he just sat through it because he was being a father. I also got him to watch a few episodes of LotGH and he seemed to enjoy it but then I went off to college and well haven't reall tried watching anything else with him.

Words of advice make sure the anime you may watch with a parent is not going to offend them or make them question your social habits. Find something easy to get into. I have noticed that generally people prefer to watch anime based on age. Older people tend to like anime with older characters whereas younger people tend to prefer stuff with kids or teens. So biggest part of advice make sure nothing is in it that will offend, make sure it is easy to follow, and try to stay with an anime with adult characters.

As for being a parent and watching anime I do not have a child but the experiment with old video games that a father recently did seems interesting and I might have to do the same to my eventual child. Start them off on older anime and slowly gradually get to the modern day anime in order breathe interest into older and newer shows alike...if it works. would be interesting to see.

My dad used to sit and watch some stuff with me from time to time, but he wasn't really into it.

There was a time a couple of summers ago where my mom texted me asking for recommendations of a manga she could try reading, for... some reason. She got through a volume apiece of Madoka and Kimi ni Todoke and about half of the Air anime before giving up, though, and she hasn't tried any since then. So I guess you could say she wasn't into it.

Aldnoah Zero is garbage, Date a Live is full of panty shots, anyone who almost never watched anime would feel disgusted

Cowboy Bebop, Crest of the Stars, Code Geass, Black Lagoon, Katanagatari, Mushishi.

I was being sarcastic... He doesn't like Code Geass though

Anime movies, and then my dad's watched episodes of Darker than Black and Full Metal Panic! because I was watching them in the family room on the big tv. I kinda want him to watch more of FMP!... he was in the army, he might find it even more amusing? Anyway, he didn't finish either of them. Darker than Black left him with the deep impression "anime is complicated"....

Honestly 90% of the issue with anime during their generation and our is the fanservice our generations anime is full of fan service some to the extent that it ruins the plot also your dad would probably enjoy Seinen anime over shounen since seinen is geared toward males over 25
